What's The Rush To Get Vista?

It's an incomplete OS. It's not even a 64bit program yet, wait until SP1 comes. Then in 2009 they are going to release SP2 codenamed "vienna" which adds the upgrades which was supposed to be in Vista in the first place. Goddamned leeches.

Then as soon as enough people get Vista, then Microsoft
will start working on the NEXT OS you can spend your
paycheck on. If they're not working it ALREADY

no thanks. Shit just ain't that important to me

Next OS I cop will be the free one, fuck Microsoft

I got to agree with this. Microsoft is still getting the bugs out of XP. Now they want people to kick out hundreds of bucks for a new OS that's still not perfected. Plus your computer may or may not have the juice to run the new OS.

Windows Vista Ultimate $499

Windows XP Professional w/SP2 $429

Windows Vista Business $379

Windows Vista Home Premium $299

Windows Vista Home Basic $259

Windows XP Home w/SP2 $259

UPGRADE versions (all prices Canadian)

Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade $299

Windows XP Professional w/SP2 Upgrade $259

Windows Vista Business Upgrade $249

Windows Vista Home Premium Upgrade $199

Windows Vista Home Basic Upgrade $129

Mac OSX Tiger 10.4.8 $129
No third party software needed to keep it secure. It just works.

I wish you mac fan boys would keep this shit civil. Mac only has ONE hardware list to consern itself with, Microsoft has hundreds of different video cards, sound cards mother boards, memory chips, printers you name it that they have to write code to run on. If you've ever tinkered with Linux, you'll see what they are discovering about trying to write code that will run on so many systems; and they still don't have it right. Try to set up a Linux wireless modem on a laptop and you know exactly the meaning of trivial pursuit.

Seems like everytime someone mentions Windows, here come the Mac fan boys trying to promote Macs.

Wait on a Mac thread. I'll be there crying about how I want a mac but I don't have an extra 2000.00 bucks laying around to get one.

I have no immediate plans to buy Vista. I only use XP for playing the few games that I have. Also, I've read that Vista will be DRMed up the ass... and I want no parts of that!

So you'll pay about $500 for an OS, which will treat you like a criminal, so that you have DX 10, which game studios will delay using until demand is high for Vista?

If you burn your motherboard (lightning strikes can do this), you have to pay another ~ $300 for a new license to install the OS again... Do your research before you buy that crap, DX 10 graphics cards do not have stable drivers for Vista still

I read an article in a recent issue of Maximum PC magazine which decried that very issue. But, that's not all. Vista also allows Microshaft to disable peripherals on your motherboard, remotely, over the internet. Peep this paragraph from Wikipedia.

Digital Rights Management
Another common criticism concerns the integration of new forms of Digital Rights Management into the operating system, specifically the introduction of the Protected Video Path. This architecture is designed such that "premium content" from HD-DVD or Blu-ray discs may mandate that the connections between PC components are encrypted. Devices such as graphic cards must be approved by Microsoft. Depending on what the content demands, the devices may not pass premium content over non-encrypted outputs, or they must artificially degrade the quality of the signal on such outputs or not display it all. There is also a revocation mechanism that allows Microsoft to disable drivers of compromised devices in end-user PCs over the Internet.[47] Peter Gutmann, security researcher and author of the open source cryptlib library, claims that these mechanisms violate fundamental rights of the user (such as fair use), unnecessarily increase the cost of hardware, and make systems less reliable and vulnerable to denial-of-service attacks.[48] Proponents have claimed that Microsoft had no choice but to follow the demands of the movie studios, and that the technology will not actually be enabled until after 2010;[49][50] Microsoft also noted that content protection mechanisms have existed in Windows as far back as Windows Me, and that the new protections will not apply to any existing content.

EXACTLY my manz....cant think of the last time i paid for an OS...
but YO....what are you using for virus protection...i have SAV corp 10 and when i tried to install it..it basically told me to get the fuck outtta here with that bullshit...what's a nigra to do???!?!?!?

Windows 3.1 was the last time I bought one. Symantec got a beta out that will work with Vista 10.2.199 and newer will work. There are a couple of others too....

I'm happy with windows XP at the moment so why change just for the heck of it. Will probably check out vista later in the year when all the early 'teething' problems have been sorted out and it has been tried and throughly tested and passed as fully safe by users.

i diagree in part. when ist tried ubuntu it was hell setting up my wireless b.c broadcom didn't make a driver for it on linux. but as u work u learn when i upgraded to edgy eft i thought i was going to have the same problem but then i downloaded a simple program and boom my wireless was working fine.

all in all linux suits me just fine and i like the freedom and control my os offers me. no programs run unless i allow it only time i felt that way on windows is when i installed a program that asked my permission for everything.

and might i mention no viruses.

linux isn't perfect but for me it does everything i need. if your a coder it mite not be right for u but if your not go for it. now if your a gamer i understand sticking to windows but u dont need vista to play games xp is just fine.

Although I'm a mac owner it's been mad clear to me based on reviews, and everthing eles I've read about Vista that, ya'll might as well save ur money and stick wit XP. Use your money for something you actually need. Don't fall for the hype cuz there is none. The only reason I say Vista will make MS money is because business will jump on it. My comp in the other room got XP from what I've seen Vista just ain't worth the money to upgrade. Mostlikely spmone gonna post it up here so I guess ya'll gonna get it free anyway. Lemme know if it's any good
