What's The Rush To Get Vista?

Serioulsy!! You never, ever get a brand spanking OS until at least service pack 1 comes out. Let em work out some of the bugs first. This aint no damn PS3

So you'll pay about $500 for an OS, which will treat you like a criminal, so that you have DX 10, which game studios will delay using until demand is high for Vista?

If you burn your motherboard (lightning strikes can do this), you have to pay another ~ $300 for a new license to install the OS again... Do your research before you buy that crap, DX 10 graphics cards do not have stable drivers for Vista still

Vista is a little prettier that XP, but apart from that I'm not very impressed. My next OS install will probably be Ubuntu Linux, which is free.

The Vista agreement actually says that?? Post a link where it says that.

I got to agree with this. Microsoft is still getting the bugs out of XP. Now they want people to kick out hundreds of bucks for a new OS that's still not perfected. Plus your computer may or may not have the juice to run the new OS.

Windows Vista Ultimate $499

Windows XP Professional w/SP2 $429

Windows Vista Business $379

Windows Vista Home Premium $299

Windows Vista Home Basic $259

Windows XP Home w/SP2 $259

UPGRADE versions (all prices Canadian)

Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade $299

Windows XP Professional w/SP2 Upgrade $259

Windows Vista Business Upgrade $249

Windows Vista Home Premium Upgrade $199

Windows Vista Home Basic Upgrade $129

Vista XP Gaming Faceoff

Rob Williams over at Techgage has been running Windows XP and Windows Vista through their gaming paces, comparing performance between the old clunky operating system and the shiny new powerhouse. The results? There seems to be something to say for clunky and familiar.

Testing games running on identical systems between two different operating systems, Windows XP performed better in most games, with only a slightly higher frame rate in Quake IV. 3D mark scores gave XP a slight lead as well. While the tests were performed using a release build alongside the newly released NVIDIA Vista drivers, it really doesn't look like gamers should rush out to upgrade any time soon. Hit the full article on Techgage for Rob's methodology and conclusions.

Before you get vista you should know that it comes with DRM that degrades "protected content," such as audio and video. I might just stick with XP until i find it absolutely necessary to change. Right now it seems like more of an downgrade than an upgrade.

I'm gonna stick with XP until its 100% necessary to upgrade. I dont need or want all those extra features that let Microsoft track you.

Why is there so many versions, its so complicated. :smh:

Vista is just another Prettier OS then XP. Another Cash Cow for Microsoft. There also working with Intel and PC Makers like Dell,etc..To push the PC Requirements so sucker Joe will say "damn my PC is slow i need to buy another one so i can run vista" tatic again. I swear The Best OS Microsoft ever made was Windows 2000. It was prefect had alot of features without the Junk.

Here's another question, I'm thinking about getting a new graphic card in the next couple of weeks, do I get a dx10 compatible, knowing only vista has dx10, or one of the existing cards on the market?

I'll stick with XP Pro Sp2 for the meanwhile and wait. If I do give a new OS a try, it will probably be Linux because I'm curious.

Wasn't my question but as a heads up, I'm running Vista RTM Build 6000 as we speak and running Avast anti-virus (free version) and it works just fine.

My consern is still with figuring out how to manage the firewall to keep shit I might install from phoning home. Maybe Comodo Firewall will get something ready for Vista. So far, none of the other firewalls is doing anything with it. If you don't know, Comodo Firewall is the shit and it's free.

in the paper in houston you can have the shit installed for 69 bucks...

That's probably just for the installation. The price of the software is probably NOT included.

1. To the people who are talking about "service pack 1". The update will be available immediately. Whether it's on a disc or downloaded from the website. (b) The more people use vista, the faster bugs will surface, the faster they can fix bugs found.

2. To the people with the piracy argument and corp packs, it does not work like it did before, corp copies have keys now.

3. To the people complaning about the price, google the term OEM.

4. To the guy wondering about if to get a DX10 card. The answer is obviously YES. DX10 is backward compatible in software and hardware, DX9 is not forward compat in any department.

5. To the people calling Vista a "cash cow" for MS, I think it's time we got over that silly argument, every OS will always have an upgrade to match the times, Just like OSX had panther, tiger, and Leopard very shortly, Windows has newer versions with upgrades in security, stability, usability.

I think that should be all.

Props. I've been doing OEM for a while and here is a link to get the Fam started.

windows is late, Vista new OS is what Mac has been for a while now. The reviews are saying that Vista is like a patch for XP. It's just changing a few things and adding a lil' color no wow factor. While ya' wit vista, Leopard(Mac) gonna come out and be on some next level shit. I love my non-virus protected mac

to tell the truth i dont mess with that i think they give you virus instead of getting rid of them.....plus im behind a hardware firewall...not the cheap store kind.....but real thing..

Is it possible to run windows apps in Linux?

You can run a complete Windows system under Linux using the FREE VMware Server or Win4Lin.

You can run MS Office and a few other apps using Crossover Linux or the FREE Wine.

You can run SOME Windows games using Cedega.

You best bet with Linux is to use a native application.
