In light of all this Michael Richards bullshit, racial tension in this country is at an all-time high and it had me thinking: when did I first experience it? Believe it or not, it was my own grandmother. Now I’ve always had a light complexion, the only child of 3 of that particular persuasion (a complexion that I share with my mother).

My grandmother (my father’s mother) was a dark-complexioned woman and her ENTIRE family was dark or brown skinned. Let’s just say that she wasn’t too thrilled when her only son married a “light-skinned woman”. To the rest of her children’s kids she was this nice & sweet granny. But to my mother, my brother, my sister & I she treated us like shit, and I never knew why.

As I got older I found out that my grandmother was simply color-struck, and that racism can go both ways sometimes.

How bout the rest of y’all?

Damn great pics man

For me It happened on a school bus. My dad was in the military so we moved to Georgia from Va. And I was about 7 maybe younger and got into a dispute with a white student (white trash) and he called me a N. I think we then got in a fist fight. I will never forget that day because it changed my outlook 100 percent on life. At the time I was just a kid, happy go lucky, treated everyone the same, A student (I was all through high school too), I didn't fully understand that whites viewed us as sub-humans. My father always told me (even at 3 and 4) that I will have to work 5 times harder to suceed at anything white dominated that day I finally understood those words.

Great post man, this is a powerful thread.

I was about 15-16 years old and my older brother who was
maybe 19-20 was fucking with this white chick out in Dolton,IL
which is a suburb on the outskirts of the far southside of Chicago.
Anyways I rode with him out to her house and he knocked on the door.
As soon as her Moms opened the door, she went on a tirade that makes
that Micheal "Kramer" Richards shit look like a Mr.Rogers Neighborhood episode.

She was screaming that her daughter Michelle was not home and
she dont appreciate her daughter dating "niggas" or the fact two
"coons" was knocking at her door. I always thought that if a white person
called me the N word to my face i'll break a nose or some shit. I was so shocked I found it funny that this old broad was calling us all kinds of
"niggas" "coons" "jungle bunnies" etc:

So to piss her off I told her that her daughter was a whore who loved
black dick. I told her Michelle had sucked off all the thugs in the
hood and was also selling pussy for crack in the projects. I even told her
the only reason we were here was to collect the money the bitch owed us.
None of that was true about Michelle, I just knew that would pissed her off
Her Mom became insanely furious and pick up the phone and call the police.
We of course got the fuck outta there and laughed all the way back to the hood <-------------TRUE STORY

My black female kindergarten teacher treated me different than the white students. I'd get punished when one of them did something. I remember my parents setting up a meeting and going off on that bitch.

was about 12 with my mom about to go to work at like 6 in the morning cop starts trailing us for like 5 minutes as soon as my mom pulls over to go to work This motherfucker pulls out the syren and starts talking broken english like if we are fuking retarded then 4 more cars pull up officer cracker starts talking shit how my mom almost caused 4 accidents and she was a hazard and this and that bullshit. comes back with some shit like he wasnt going to take her car away but he gave like 7 tickets. Mother Fucker seen Our PuertoRican Flag and thought he could dump some of his qouta on us like if we just got off a boat or something. my mom kept it cool and didnt pay shit at court the judge that it was bullshit to.

At about the age of seven I won a race against a bunch of kids, mostly white.
I crossed the finish line, went to claim the winner's ribbon that was needed to claim a "prize", and was told by the judge "I don't have any more 1st Place Ribbons, here take this 3rd place ribbon and tell them you really came in first".

At seven what did I know about prejudice, I trusted the fucker. Needless to say when I told the prize giver what the judge said, he just looked at me like I was crazy and gave me a piece of shit prize comparable for finishing third. Imagine, a grown ass white man doing that to a kid. After I told my parents, they explained to me what had just been done to me, and they gave me this warning, "It's okay to like some white people, but never trust any of them" --- and I still don't. :smh:

My first racist experience happend in Savannah, GA where i lived for six years for school. I'm from Philadelphia where yes racism exists but when you live downtown in the arts area, everybody is everybody there is no race colour or creed. Anyway, my friends and I have a bboying crew down there, and we would breakdance on River St. for money on the weekends. Our crew had black white asian and latin peoples. so it was well mixed. Well one night this bumpkin ass hick trailor trash bitch desides she wants us to dance while we are takin a break. So we told her to stick around for 10 min. and we are gonna get started again. She's like "No I wanna seem them ******s and that Gook dance" *refering to my asian friend*. We all got mad heated and her husband saw us all stand up and tried to pull her away.

I was the first to tell him, "Check your girl before something bad happens, and i'm sure that none of us wants to go to jail for some stupid shit" He's like "Oh man i'm so sorry man, com'on hunny lets go". And she continues go to off "No! i wanna see the gook and ******s dance, lets watch em dance! dance muther fuckers dance" at that point we realized that she was too damn drunk for her own good and her man was got really fuckin scared cuz a brick was about to go upside dat bitch head. but we all kept our cool. All we could do is laugh about it and make fun of her bigotry. For someone to be so racist they fail to realize how ignorant, stupid, and just down right foolish it makes them look and sound. :smh: when will people learn? :smh:

This is a halfway interesting thread.

I ain't had too many experiences that I can't laugh off. Grew up in a black community.

I got friends who got shit when they were growing up for being light, got friends who got shit for being dark, shit definitely is sad.

Childhood racism starts long before you are aware of what it really is. It starts with comparing skin tones, reaching out and grabbing your hair to feel it without permission, being invited as the token Black child to birthday parties or events to show that the children and the parents themselves, are diverse in their friends and associates. Every African-American should read How to Rent a Negro by female Black scholar Damali Ayo. Check out my reviews on the book at Amazon.com.

This book talks about how although slavery has been illegal for many years, we are still "rented," often unwittingly and against our will, by our white counterparts. You've got to read it... although written satirically, the book raises awareness of just how often we are rented for our expertise in African-American culture. She even includes a sample invoice for billing of prospective renters and past due rentals that includes everything from providing a Black opinion, letting someone touch your hair/ skin, giving impromptu dance lessons, providing an "I'm not racist," voucher, and being siilent and just "letting it go." She also provides both corporate and individual rates for rentals.

After reading her book, I came to realize that I am a professional, authentic Black person with 32 years experience in the field... enough to warrant a high price for both casual and corporate renting! With the holidays approaching, those of you with jobs that hold holiday parties may want to pick up this book right away so that you can start preparing your invoices ahead of time as you're bound to be rented quite a bit! Just being invited to that office party so your "boy" can show that he has diversity and "has Black friends," can bring in a high rental fee!

My first time never really registered since I was from the city, but I went to camp somewhere in PA ,and some white kid called me a N! ,and I had to whupp his ass. BUT what really let me know about racism and how its deep in some people. Was this sweet little old lady that worked in a Kmart in PA ,when I moved there , I was working in the Kmart and this girl that was eyeing me one time out side of the store, came into the store looking for me but I wasnt working at the time. The next day the sweet old lady was like yeah a young lady was looking for you I figured she was looking for the "colored" boy in the back. I was in shock for a min. then walked away, kinda like wtf can you do?

Re: What was your first racist experience? How old were you and how did you handle it

when the white doctor pulled me out of my mother's pussy he said "damn another nigga, put him in a holding sell"

my life hasn't been the same since

In 4th grade, I won the school Spelling Bee at an all white school(Morningside elementary). The English teacher that was in charge went to the principal and asked if the second placed student (white) could represent the school because she thought that he would have a better chance at winning for the school. I was in the office with my mom when the principal asked her why I couldn't represent the school and she said because I was black and they would give me harder words than the other contestants. She just couldn't believe that a "nigga" could outshine her favorite student (cracka named Ben).

My first racist experience came upon breathing my first breathe in this nasty mutha fucka known as amerikkka!

And its been on since that moment.

My mom didn't play that shit !! Imagine hearing that crap if you are a parent !! The teacher was trying to play it to the left and kick it like she was just trying to do what she thought was best for the school. My mom showed up with her lawyer the next day and had a long conversation with the principal. The teacher was suspended (she wasn't fired though) and I was back on my side of town the next semester at an all black school (Arkwright Elementary). My mom can't talk about it to this day without getting pissed off !!

Damn, that's crazy
I remember my black 2nd grade teacher was pissed off at me because I fuckin placed 2nd at the spelling bee...but that's another story
The first experience I can remember was in elementary school with this white boy I thought was my friend at the time
I was the only black guy in our little clique and one day at lunch he said something to the effect of "Oh, shouldn't you be drink CHOCOLATE milk instead of white milk so you can stay dark???"
Man, I pushed the fuck outta that white boy and never talked to his ass or trused whitey ever again
I didn't even get into trouble because my moms was a teacher at the school and was good friends with my teacher at the time
Overall a good life lesson about crackas

Dude that is seriously nuts. I don't know what I would have done as a parent!

It happened in Michigan when I was about 9 and my brother was 7 (early '70s). We were wondering around in a large grassy field in the country area (there were cows, horses, ducks, and other farm animals nearby). From out of nowhere this young white bitch appears and says to us [in an Ellie Mae Clampett voice] "y'all betta git on away from 'round here, my brother don't like no *******" We sensed danger and quickly found our way back to whence we came...I don't remember who the person was whom my mom and us were visiting that day. We were living in Detroit then.

She was an older white lady and old white people in Georgia still think we are dumbass niggas. There is still a large portion of Georgians that would love to have the confederate flag flying. This happened in 1986-87, but if it happened today we would probably have a solid lawsuit on our hands.

Blunt, have you ever experienced any overt forms of racism? If so then please share your story..I would love to hear it. Thanks.

I was in the 7th grade ( back in 88 )and my school peeps were walking from school to the bus stop. We were waiting on the public bus and this white dude told us to get off of his steps. So we get off until he goes back inside, and dude comes back out a throws hot ass water on us, missed everybody ( cause we got up so fast ) except this one girl, it hit her square on her back. The white man comes outside and starts calling us n@##$$, and pushes the girl as she was standing on the steps in amazement that the dude just did it. And them me out of nowhere confronts the white man ( he must have been about 6'1" ) shoves me on the ground. Just so happen the Desire St bus was passing ( packed with black people ) that saw the white man shove me to the ground. I cant say how many black dudes broke out of the back door of that bus ( the bus driver a black dude just stopped the bus for the rest of this incident ), and whooped that white mans ass. They asked me was I alright and made me get on the the desire bus with them. It wasn't even my bus

Re: What was your first racist experience? How old were you and how did you handle it

In elementary school my little brother and his group of friends would always hang around me outside in the carpool area after school. I remember one day I was thumb wrestling with one of his white friends and outta nowhere this dirty ass redneck grabs the boys hand (it was the boy's pops) and grabs me by the shoulder and says "Come with me". Me being a little kid, I was confused as hell so I followed him and he took me over to the principal (who was luckily black). He tells the principal some bullshit about how I was intimidating his so and then says "Ill leave him with you to deal with". Due to me being a troublemaker, the principal and me knew each other real well lol. He ask me what happened and I told him how we were thumb wrestling and then his dad came. Well I guess he know what was up b/c when my dad came to pick me up, they had a little talk. My pops scheduled a conference with our the principle and the white boys dad a few days later. To this day im proud as hell of my pops for how he held it down. He came in dressed in his work clothes and shit, and when the white boys dad came in dressed in some cut offs and some nuthugger jeans he just started laughing at him. A man with a Masters from UNC-Chapel Hill vs. a dirty looking Redneck...you know my pops verbally dug up in that crackas ass.
The one thing that stuck in my head about that shit was when my father said..."I can tell just by looking at you that your life has no value". Even my principal was

Re: What was your first racist experience? How old were you and how did you handle it

my fam recently moved to aneighborhood with only a handful of black people. (big big houses) I actually looked on some white supremacist sites, and where i live is where they recommend white people to move to get away from the ******s. :smh:

so whenever i go to the store, white people look at me like "what the fuck are you doing here?". My bro told me that peeps were giving him strange looks and i didn't believe it until i went out myself.

Plus cus i'm a big black dude, people expect me to be violent and stupid. Sometimes i'll be at parties, and some white dude i dont know will walk up to me and ask me if i got any weed.
My bro is still in the high school. one of teachers was teaching something about religion, and when Islam came up, she just assumed he was muslim and asked him what mosk he attended.

then there's all the usual stuff. like being watched in stores :p People trying to overprice you in stores.

I've only been called ****** to my face once by some angry white kid. he would mess with me every once in a while, till one day i just asked him if he wanted to get ktfo'ed. i think he was trying to get me to beat him up so i could get kicked out of the school.

Re: What was your first racist experience? How old were you and how did you handle it

It was about in about the 10th grade, I was @ another school for some after school business training deal. It was over in the westside of Omaha where the rich/"high class" folks are. So, this other student came around and asked me & my friend "What school do u guys go to?" we told him and he made this funny look so we were like what...what's wrong? so he says "There's just so many dirty, nasty, thuggish, loud...um...ni99ers"...me and my friend were in complete shock and were just like dude, don't even talk 2 us.

Worse thing about it though...ol' boy was black...and yes it he said "ni99ers" not niggas.
:smh:

I'm in 8th grade and I have a paper route in my neighborhood after school. This particular day one of my customers, a single man, has his sons over for the day. Two bad a$$ white boys. The Dad wasn't there. For some reason me and the boys have words. Can't remember about what, but whatever... I got papers to deliver so I get back on my bike and pedal off down the block. When I'm about to turn the corner the white boy about my age yells n***** from his front porch! Man! I bout broke myself on my schwinn tryin' to get back to his yard. The two little pu**ies ran back in the house when they saw me coming. I dropped my bike in the yard hopped on their porch and started banging on they dayum door. I tried opening that joint, it was locked. I was heated!!! I was yelling on their porch you see a n**** you whoop a n****'s a$$! Man they were hiding and would not come out. When I calmed down and the taste of whooping somebody's a$$ had left my mouth I pushed on to finish throwing the rest of my papers. Never saw dude again, but you know I was looking for him whenever I was on his block.

Enough said.

First off... no disrespect Tony Soprano, but Blunt was just pointing out your statement that "racial tension is now at an all time high" was gratuitous. I mean 4real how many of us lately have entered a school building whose doors were blocked by the Governor of the state because he forbade blacks go to school with whites over his dead body, and it took Armed National Guards for you to get to homeroom, dayum? When is the last time blacks all over the country organized themselves into groups to fight for our civil rights, picked up guns and pledged "by any means necessary?" When is the last time riots broke out in multiple cities at the same time (black folks screaming 'burn baby burn') over racial injustice?

Not recently huh... so although things ain't great, racial tension is not at an all time high. Don't get it twisted... racism STILL exists, its just COVERT now (in the background, until u get heckled in a comedy club and lose your cool and expose ur true racist self, or U experience it while leaving a strip club on ur wedding day and cops decide to f*** with u) vs OVERT (in ur face racism, being lynched for looking at a white women) that existed back then.

So bruh wasn't trying to dis you, he was trying to reference you. Peace

Signed dat chick...

I was 4(I remember alot about my childhood). I was in preschool, playing with my star wars people. A white kid had some star wars people and we started playing together.

When the parents came to pick us up, we were still playing. He got his stuff and ran to his mom I got mine and ran to my mom.

The next day when I was playng with my star wars people I asked him if he wanted to play, he said he couldnt play with me anymore cause I was black and his mom took his star wars people from him.

That was the first of many.
