What was your favorite 80's memory (I'll start it off)

This is one of mine. I remember when hip-hop was new and raw and real. Nig's used to rock the gazelles with the suede kangols...I remember fly shell toe adidas (costing a whopping $45.00) I remember chasing the icecream truck in the summer of nyc. But most of all I remember this...

What was your favorite 80's memory?

I was age 4-14 during the eighties and I remember going school shopping and waking up at 7am every Saturday with a bowl of fruit loops/cheerios/frosted flakes to watch cartoons. I also remember my mother interrupting my cartoon watching  and giving me chores that had to be done before I could resume my cartoon enjoyment. We lost a lot of dishes during the 80's :D

You thought the USA was the "good guys" during the Iran-Contra scandal (in the '80s)?

Hate it when people keep making up this phony nostalgia. It's not enough just to say you remember the '80s fondly because you came of age then (and really knew little about the world), but folks always have to idealize their favorite time and always try to justify it by claiming it was somehow better than today. That is never true.

Saturday & Sunday afternoons on TV.

For my L.A. and Southern Cali peeps, damn near every channel had it going on and kept you entertained with some classic cinema.

Channel 5 (KTLA) had all the Planet of the Apes series and Godzilla flicks.

Channel 13 (KCOP) showed the war classics (Dirty Dozen/Naked and The Dead) and the best westerns (Good,Bad,Ugly/Wild Bunch)

Channel 9 (Before it became KCAL) had Elvira and "Black Belt Theater". Used to go out and play in the streets with the neighbors early in the 'noon and I'd always come back right in time to see Bruce Lee fight Chuck Norris or Kareem!

I also remember (summer of 88', too!) my next door neighbor blasting Rob Base and DJ EZ Roc - It Takes two EVERYDAY!!!

No. I don't remember that. You must be talking about the 1940s! In the 80s Reagan (AKA the devil) and Bush 1 were doing all manner of dirt... arming the contras, Saddam Hussein, Osama Bin Ladin and Manuel Noriega just to name a few high lights.

i CUT GRASS IN MY HOOD FOR dj EQUIPMENT. Then I started doing parties, receptions ect. Then my boy got a car and when I didn't have a gig we would ride around until we found a party. I miss house parties!: going up in some strangers shit; mingle, drink, and next thing ya know I'm grinding on lil sis when the slow song comes on! Violence has destroyed the house party

My favorite memories of the 80's were when we did simple shit like going outside to play with ya friends. No XBOX, PS3 or internet. Just a bunch of kids having fun. Riding ya bike down to the corner store for one of those Flintstones Push-Ups. And no matter how hot it was outside, you never cared. All you wanted to do was play..Didn't matter whether you played basketball, football or kickball. You just wanted to be outside. Kids today don't do that shit. They're missing out on a bunch of lifetime memories by being stuck inside on the internet or yapping on their cell phones.

But what I miss most about the eighties was the music man...black people was doing their thing in every genre. And they were so creative and innovative. Not cookie cutter like whats going on now. But most of all it seemed like once and for all we were going to get over that black vs white shit. Back then if you were black and listened to cindy lauper or eurythmics it was okay (Boy George and George Micheal was pushing it) While White people was loving Prince, Micheal, Lionel Ritchie, Whitney Houston. And everything was alright.
