Islam won a round by holding and getting punched in the face the entire time. Mma scoring is a joke. UFC rewards crotch sniffing way too much. The unified rules specifically say that holding a position scores no points.

He had an easy route to the championship, and this fight doesn't say a lot about him. He's got a questionable chin and gas tank. Gonna be interesting to see what he does going forward.

That score is impossible, there is no way that fight was 49-46 Islam. When Islam got Volk on the ground, he didn't do any damage.
The judge who gave that score must have been mistakingly scoring under the old rules cause with the new rules ground control without damage doesn't equate to points. For the life of me I don't know how that judge came up with that score for Islam.
Volk lost and it wasn’t close but he did a lot better than expected. When Islam took him down the first time and slipped the rear naked choke I thought it was the beginning of the end, but Volk broke the grip and did that the whole fight.
