It very often plays out that I am one of very few people of color at an event, at a mixer, at poly cocktails, happy hour, whatever the poly event is, it’s very real that I will be the only or one of very few people of color at this thing. I’m always worried about being othered. I’m always worried about being fetishized.

I don't think it goes that far with paternity.

Any child conceived during the union is the responsibility of the husband by the state laws. Not sure if it varies by state but certain states, they need no DNA. The child was conceived while "we" were in union, marriage.

We spoke on this on the board in the past. I didn't know. If my wife had a baby from cheating, if we got a divorce later, I'm still legally responsible for that childs welfare.

I was like wtf.

I can’t disagree there. He’s definitely in a world that unique. However, he is my mentor (he’s an elder gentleman). I learned a lot from him about human compassion and empathy. These were areas I lacked conscious awareness in. He also educated me in human mythology and how we lack the ability to true see past our own conscious, especially when emotional.

Now, when he is telling me about how he beat bitches asses and the various devices he use. That’s where my mind get blown. Even more so, the women request to be “tuned” up. The trigger is the key. My homie’s passing of his parents along with several other mythologies he held to be true all crash on him at once. When his ex-wife said she was wanting to be non-monogamous, I think that’s when he really dove into human sciences.

Yeah. People in general aren't happy doing nothing. As a family unit, everyone contributes. A family unit consisting of a husband, two wives and kids, would actually accumulate more household income than just 2 money earners because there would be more income earners utilizing the same resources(housing, housing maintenance and childcare).

Since a teen, I've always wondered or thought it would be cool having two girlfriends or the poly lifestyle, THEN...
I watched this Poly series on the Showtime app like two years ago. May seem cool at first, but there ends up being jealousy I find in some shape or form. Many say they can do it and watching the list of couples over the seasons in the lifestyle from the show, they all pretty much ended up with some kind of issue.

I’m very conservative in my ideologies when it comes to sex and relationships. Generally, Black folks are religious, not accepting of homosexuality, patriarchic, and traditional when it comes to relationships/marriage. That’s what I meant by conservative in thought process.

I come from an old school southern family. So I still hold on to certain aspects of that thought process.

However, what I have learned while maturing and doing some traveling across the country is that Black folks are not monolithic. Black folks from NYC are so different than the ones down south. Black folk out west are very different than those in the north. This is due to the environments in which we come from, and those environments dictates what we are exposed to. We are spread out across 3000 square miles of United States territory.

When it comes to non-monogamy, I agree the emotional aspect is the one biggest factor these couples can not account for. Plus, we are not thoughtful enough on the impacts that sex has on people emotionally. We’ve abridged the act to something meaningless in order to satisfy our impulses more frequently.

It’s more complicated than we give credit to.

my grandfather had 3 wives

all they ever did was fight and make his life miserable

when he was around 70, he was so miserable, he moved out his home
and went to stay by himself..we all thought he was going to die

the guy ended up living another 20 years, looked 20 years younger too..

the trouble and fights between his wives and their children and their children has continued to this date
last i heard, one of them is on the run, for beating another one almost to death

polygamy is a fucked up way of life

I'm sure it may work in other societies. But in America, with the way family structure is, jealously I think eventually sets in.

I watched the series on Showtime, anyone who has the app and time to kill, I watched the whole thing over a few days and it was revealing, about just the mental/emotional makeup of what goes down. It's no bed of roses.

Sex, in the moment is great, it's the aftermath you have to live with.
