What do Dems need to do differently to reach non-college educated voters? Or to win by more than just 3% against someone like Trump?

As we celebrate the end of the Trump era, the time begins to make sure it is never repeated. It is distressing that this race was close enough to take four days to be called and that Republicans nearly stamped out the progress seen in the 2018 election. This should have been a blowout but Trump gained 8 million votes over 2016 for 70 million total-- More people voted for Donald Trump in 2020 than ever voted for Barack Obama or any other Democrat in any other election.

Biden is winning the popular vote by 2.9% right now. Clinton won it by 2.1%.

WHY IS THIS SHIT SO CLOSE AND WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN TO END THESE MOTHERFUCKERS FOR GOOD???

^^^

Those numbers are white-specific. I haven't seen the numbers for minority groups specifically. A lot of this is a dumb white people problem, heavily correlated with race.

But it remains true that the Democrats base is disproportionately college-educated and they don't do as well with less educated voters as a party of the people should.

Be more than republican light. You can't appeal to racist, and overly conservative white people... But you can give people more of what's universally beneficial for most of the country. Problem with the Dems is there isn't a significant difference between them and the Repubs other than the racial divisiveness, and the way the go about governing. That aint it. Not putting people off, won't win over anyone. In most instances, voting for Dems is simply voting against bigots and religious zealots.

They start by not talking down to them, you know, Obama politics. Keep telling people who are behind on their bills how privileged they are and this is what happens. You can't talk down to people who feel shit ain't their fault.

And another thing is to stop telling people how they feel or what they mean when they say something. Just listen. Another thing Obama did well.

Most America is moderate. Just focus on their pockets without talking down on them and there's a better chance of getting those votes.

Most amaericans have never read the constitution and seem to have the memories of a goldfish. Add to the fact that whites ignored trumps shitty traits to focus on the 1 issue that had in common with him. Dems need to advocate for a Civics classes and schoolhouse rock to come back. Now that we've went to zooming classes and transforming our old way of life , move forward with wide spread, reliable, fast and low internet. As DL said, they wanted to be the Flintstones and now that we've cut them bums off, we need to be the Jetsons.

Add in social reform for Black folk and the underclass, PRISON REFORM, try to outreach white Hispanics, shore up the ACA and show the nation that congress doesn't want to move on that issue to make that a mid-term referendum.

Stop trying to be Republicans in policy.

But act like Republicans do as a party while truely coming from the left. So act as 1 in terms of messaging, actually fight the other party, play offense instead of always being on the defensive. Bipartisanship is dead and the Repubs have been pissing on that corpse from the day that McConnell said that he'd make Obama a 1 term President by blocking everything until now. The moral high ground doesn't mean shit if you're not getting things done for the people who are your constituency.

But Biden didn't talk down to people. You can hit Clinton with that but not Biden. And neither one of them were out there telling people to check their privilege.

You seem to be criticizing people you don't like on Twitter, not addressing what the Democratic Party did in 2016 and 2020.

Naw man, this election had the Trump effect. Biden didn't have to talk down.(why they ran this corpse is another issue altogether). People were called the devil for even considering Trump/GOP. The overall talking down message was there.

It's not me criticizing shit. This is what folks been saying and showed and proved at the polls. They been telling us how they feel. Democrats have to counter the condescending messaging. Make them feel included. The overall feeling from the left hostile as fuck. Can we admit that or do we need another awakening in 2022?

Last time I checked...one point more is all it takes to win anything... why should a winner concern themselves with running the score up.. brah

Okay, so you've shifted from "don't talk down" to "counter the condescending messaging."

"The overall feeling from the left" is not something the Democrats can control.

So, as far as the Democrats go, how do you propose that they "make [stone age racists and degenerates] feel included"?

Because the goal is to win consistently, not squeak out buzzer beaters!

There should never be another Republican president again. The margin should be to big for late-breaking news (like the Hillary 2016 Comey excuse) to make a difference or for the entire election to depend on one or two states.

I am quite content, my kind sir, if every game I won is by just a point..brah

Dems lost the last "game"-- That doesn't make sense. There's no reason to be content in the longterm. I don't know what sports you follow but when I look for upsets, I always look first at the teams with good records built on a disproportionate number of lucky wins.

Winning by luck...I will take that too..brah

I didn't shift shit. I'm saying that talking down should be avoided. Countering that shit can also come into play.

Focus should be on the economy. Followed by healthcare. Talking about pockets makes everyone feel included. It's the universal language. But go ahead, keep making fun of them and then wondering why shit is close when it shouldn't be. Them cacs ain't even thinking about us man. They can't even pay their own bills.

I think we won't see eye to eye on where they fucking up at. But we do agree on one thing: They're fucking up. Peace man.

to be fair, the Patriots built a dynasty out of squeaking out wins in the Superbowl.

Only once in the past 30 years have more Americans voted for a Republican: in 2004, when President George W. Bush beat John Kerry by about three million votes. But three times, a Republican has been elected.

This don't include the hold the Repubs have had on Congress over the years.

Winning is winning

"Winning" the popular vote is what got us the Trump presidency! The numbers you cited aren't meaningful in obtaining victories.

The Patriots may have squeaked out wins in the Super Bowl but teams that consistently squeak out wins don't get to the Superbowl. I'm talking about are those 10-6 teams that could have easily been 6-10 if a half dozen plays went another way.

If all of your wins-- not Super Bowl wins but wins-- came by a point, as Killa preposterously suggested should be comfortable, you're going to get exposed when your luck runs out.

I don't think you got my point. Republicans have eked out wins for decades. Other than maybe Trump, the majority didn't give a fuck about how they got there.

I have watched the Patriots enough over the years to know they didn't give a fuck how they got to the Superbowl. I also know, they have been gifted with many a win.

Bottom line they didn't give a fuck how they got there and how they won, 6 rings is all they cared about.

My point was that the Patriots wouldn't be there if they relied on eeking out wins in the regular season! We are not talking about good or great teams winning in the finals at the last second! You're ruining the analogy by making it about Super Bowl victories-- one shot affairs-- when I was talking about regular seasons, which have actual sample sizes.

The 2011 Denver Broncos made the playoffs with 8 wins, but only one of them was by 10 points or more. Everything they got they eeked out and they eeked into the playoffs. What happened? They were promptly defeated because they sucked and didn't belong there.

Notice that all these teams that eeked into the playoffs had more close games than decisive victories:

sorry bruh, as someone close to me once said, playoffs don't mean shit. It's super bowl or bust.

you brought up the sports analogy to begin with.

The bottom line your main point don't mean shit. The republicans don't give a fuck about blow out wins or close wins. As long as they get what they want they win.

Even when they've lost they've won by obstructing as much as they could while framing the narrative. And then when they had the chance they did what they wanted Dems be damned.

You can't on that stage. You have to go to them and pound in continuously how Republicans have done the things that have made it harder to live like bust up unions and how these tax cuts again and again don't trickle down. You have to play that up constantly but even then so many of them are concerned with shit that has nothing to do with their pockets, like hating to see black people and gay people get equal rights.

That's how they get sucked in because they so concerned about shit that has nothing to do with most of them. You can explain until you're blue in the face literally how even if they don't get a leg up that being white means their property gets valued more and it's not fair and the republicans have no answers for that and they will stare at you. Why, because they can't see the easy path as to why and don't want to consider that they get something they can't hold.

We are in a post-factual era where someone will look at one word and use that to spin that an entire sentence means something different. Just lookat them with the votes. They will swear that counting should have stopped even though these states have long had these laws but this year created a situation where it was overloaded. They will say the media lies then go their media of choice is telling the truth because their lie is so far to the opposite side from everyone else.

At the end of the day, emphasize jobs and union work (though these republicans will sell the idea of you as an owner dealing with whining and unappreciative employees) as where the republicans aren't siding with you. That a former bartender like AOC has more in common with you than the real estate developers that run the republican state parties and they are just as elite even though they go to church and oppose abortions (publicly). and Hope for the best. That any improvement in the lives of black and brown people come at the expense of those elites and not the other workers...and hope it works.

exactly. You keep pushing to get the wins by hook or by crook because they havent been able to beat you without cheating so thats just what it is. a super close battle where little stuff can get the win, like making sure everyone can vote. that alone will push you up a point or 2.

They are okay with not only imprisoning children, they are okay with removing the reproductive organs from women. Maybe you shouldn’t try to appeal to deranged people.

That’s my just my thought. My neighbor is from Central America. They told my son that they don’t like black people.
