i'm curious, i hardly ever take pics, but have camera phones not yet caught up to capturing the photo quality of the cameras yall posting? Do you still need to edit them after shooting to enhance them?

There's a lot more that goes into a camera that makes a cellphone unable to compete in many professional settings. for example aperture range, focal distance and image compression, high shutter speeds, wider dynamic range, etc... You can get great photos from a cell phone camera, but more than often the scenario you're taking those photos in would have to be ideal (lighting, etc...) versus having far more control with an actual camera

EOS T3i which is now my son's (art major)...still rocking my Olympus E-PL1 might be getting an OM-D later this year. I love their lens. Still have all my Nikon film gear just in case, LOL

I was out shooting a Sunset a few days ago and there were a few folks shooting it with their Cell Phones. I'll put my pictures up against their's any day. Shooting a "landscape" in Portrait mode is just wrong. That being said I still take shots with my Cellphone where it makes sense.

no- like another poster said- cell cams can't match lens, aperture control & size, sensor sizes, shutter speeds etc of dslr or mirrorless...

and yes white balance and color correction etc in post are still needed

well the canon 80d is a good all around camera, great for video and pictures.if you have room in your pockets the canon 5d mach 4 is my dream camera.but the 80d has a touch screen it swivels it have a mic output.does great b roll videos.but if i had my wish i would get the canon 5d mach4 thats the Bentley of cameras.real talk to be honest you can take good pictures with any half was decent camera if you have the skills its mainly the lens most people worry about.

I had all Nikon Pro gear. Sold it all. Went into MFT (a format that seems on the verge of obsolescence, but that's another story) because of the size and weight.

The main thing to remember is - bodies will come and go but glass (lenses) are always critical. Invest in lenses and get whatever body suits your needs.

What are your needs? You can buy used or refurbished bodies and concentrate on glass.
How much do you want to carry? Good glass is heavy. Pro bodies are heavy. And both are big. But you can't beat the results.

Like most things in life, people are going to praise their chosen brand of gear to the heavens. Mainly because they want to validate their cleverness in purchasing it and your idiocy in buying some other brand. Pay them no mind. I bought and used every major brand and they all are extremely capable.

So waddaya want to do?
