Why are banks asking for two forms of ID to open an account?

What are banks asking for form forms of ID to open an account?

Is this normal should my bank ask for 2 forms of id to open a business account especially since I have non profit organization?

Even without the Patriot Act, don't you think it's wise to ask for 2 forms of identification? Don't you think a bank would like to know who they're conducting business with?

my bad I should really proof read my post, I was trying to open a banking acct for my non profit however the banks are asking for ID, now my question is if they do this wont this make the acct be in my name therefore personally guaranteeing loan?

Like I said this acct is for my non profit we have are EIN number and our 501c3 is pending but we have a small amount of funs from event we have thrown so we need to put them into an account. Am I missing something or will we have to wait until we get out 501c3 in order to open a bank acct and if so what do we do with the funds until we finally get our 501c3 in hand?

i would only assume that down the line they'd like to tie somebody to that account for liabilty. i.e. the financial officer responsible for making certain decisions.

basically how does the bank know that you are the person who's legally authorized to open up accoutns and such for the company? by providing documentation showing who you are in respect to the company, and then proving that you are that person. i.e. showing your identification. once that's done you can then open up the account under the company.
