Re: Werrason the world No1 entertainer will at Karibana on Long Island on Sept 4, 201
Nice diversion though congrats you got one person to fall for your "speech" ... imo your threads are not playful trash talking they are DIVISIVE just my 2cents tho
He did not fall for anything... Before this forum came to hate me, Charlie and I had a huge fight on this same topic about 6 months ago... In that lengthy debate, I came to respect Charlie as a fair man, who is very intelligent, very knowledgeable and willing to lend an ear to his opponent even when he does not agree with him. I suspect that the respect is mutual, but that does not mean we agree on everything.
As for the question of unity, it seems, from the point of view of Black Americans, to be conditioned on everyone acceding to the notions that they popularly hold. No one ever told, or was supposed to say to, them that anyone other than they, could be the best musician or entertainer in the world. We were friends until I said that an African is the best musician and the best entertainer. Then many of them moved from an active apathy where they had ostracised me and my threads, to an angry opposition and ostentatious antipathy. Some even threatened to inflict physical harm on random Africans if I did not cease my music posts.
Subsequently, others embarked on a disruptive campaign where they would try to flood my posts with unrelated rap videos, spiced with vitriol and choice insults...It was only in the last few weeks that I chose to return the favour, and probably deepen their hatred of me as a result...
If the only way we can have unity is by me acceding to the notion that "music" is necessarily Black American, then there will be division. Brazilian blacks play what they play; it is music too. The same is true of blacks all over the diaspora. Black Americans do not have a monopoly on music...
There is a method to my madness. My in-your-face presentation has done much to disabuse my brothers of many misconceptions. It has also numbed them to agony of realising that other people can and are currently playing better music than they do and are. The result is that I receive far less hatred now, than I once did. That is progress. I am 100% sure that whenever someone says Prince is the best entertainer in the world at a Black American family reunion somewhere, there is at least one person saying... "... Well you need to hear about them Af'cans too... They do be jammning...".
In the final analysis, black music is black music. It is the common heritage of all black men. Make what you can of it..
