Exclusive: Trump getting a parade but tanks won't roll down Pennsylvania avenue

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump will get his military parade, but it is unlikely to mirror the Paris Bastille Day event which inspired him as it will not involve any heavy military vehicles like tanks to avoid doing damage to the streets of Washington, according to a Pentagon planning memo shown to CNN.

The Pentagon memo sent to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff was issued on Thursday and outlined the initial guidance on how Trump's sought after parade, scheduled for November 11 -- Veterans Day -- will look.
The memo says the parade will integrate with the annual DC Veterans Day parade and focus on the contributions of US veterans from the Revolutionary War to today "with an emphasis on the price of freedom."

The parade will "include wheeled vehicles only, no tanks," the memo said, adding that "consideration must be given to minimize damage to local infrastructure."

It will, however, involve "a heavy air component" with military aircraft flying overhead at the end of parade, including older aircraft "as available," the memo said.
The parade will also feature period uniforms from the Old Guard Fife and Drum, a unit that parades in period uniform.
The Joint Staff will be responsible for planning the parade and Northern Command, which oversees US troops in North America, will be responsible for executing it, according to the memo, which was signed by US Navy Capt. Hallock Mohler Jr., the executive secretary for the office of the secretary of defense.

The parade route will run from the White House to the Capitol, with the memo saying that veterans and Medal of Honor recipients will surround Trump in the reviewing area of the Capitol during the event.
News that Trump had asked the Pentagon to begin planning the parade emerged last month.
"We'll see if we can do it at a reasonable cost, and if we can't, we won't do it. But the generals would love to do it, I can tell you, and so would I," Trump told Fox News late last month.
"I think it's great for our country in terms of being a cheerleader and the spirit," he added.

…The parade won’t be cheap.

Defense officials told NBC News that the estimated cost could be as high as $45 million, with individual Army units ultimately bearing the cost of the parade — which could potentially impact funds used for training.

Trump said it would be worth it...

This and having Air Force One doing laps for the Indy 500 should be very clear and blatant examples to the public that Drumpf never cared about reducing the deficit and "draining the swamp."

If he did, a $3 trillion tax break for his wealthy friends wouldn't be such a high priority......
Neither that and raising taxes for ppl making less than $35k/ year (a lot of college kids and his "poor/uneducated" base of supporters).....

Request For 'Seat Fillers' at Trump's Military Parade Comes Under Scrutiny

The post, which called for bodies to pack the stands at Trump's event, said that it wanted "maximum perception control", and promised to pay responders in cryptocurrency for their work.

…The Craigslist ad, which was posted on Wednesday morning, called for "seat fillers and extras to provide their time for space maximization and attendance perception".

Participants were promised $1,000 paid in an unspecified cryptocurrency, which the ad says was provided by FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT LLC, a holding company that owns large quantities of the $TRUMP cryptocurrency launched during the 2024 election.

The ad said that drive to find spectators was organized by T-Mellon Events. The company website or name does not appear in any search engines and it has no record of working in events management.

The featured image on the ad is of a Russian military event, prompting many viewers to theorize that the ad is a hoax designed to make the White House look like it needs more bodies in the crowd for Trump's birthday.

The ad also requested "people of color and ethnic groups to sign up for maximum perception control," and said that "these individuals will be prominently displayed on the televised broadcast and local viewing screens to be seen by the VIP platform."…

Trump’s birthday parade may be cancelled over thunderstorms

“Rain won’t stop us, the tanks don’t melt, but if there’s lightning then that puts the crowd at risk,” Steven Warren, chief spokesman for the army, told The Times. “If there’s lightning they will disperse the crowd and even cancel or postpone the parade.”

Trump raged at Hegseth over birthday parade where military had too much fun: ‘He’s p***ed off at the soldiers’

Gustaf Kilander
June 17, 2025

President Donald Trump raged at Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over Saturday’s military parade, arguing that the soldiers were “hamming it up,” biographer Michael Wolff has said.

Wolff appeared on The Daily Beast Podcast, saying that the president wanted a “menacing” show of force in honor of the Army’s 250th, and his 79th, birthday on June 14. Instead, Trump got a “festive” parade, said the author.

“He’s p***ed off at the soldiers,” he said. “He’s accusing them of hamming it up, and by that, he seems to mean that they were having a good time, that they were waving, that they were enjoying themselves and showing a convivial face rather than a military face.”

Social media users noted that the soldiers weren’t marching in lockstep during the parade as they made their way down Constitution Avenue in downtown Washington, D.C. Wolff claimed that Trump blamed Hegseth for the lacklustre performance.

“He kind of reamed out Hegseth for this,” Wolff said of the president. “Apparently, there was a phone call, and he said to Hegseth, the tone was all wrong. Why was the tone wrong? Who staged this? There was the tone problem. Trump, he keeps repeating himself.”

Trump was reportedly upset that the military parade wasn’t ‘menacing’ enough, a biographer has claimed

“It didn’t send the message that he apparently wanted, which is that he was the commander-in-chief of this menacing enterprise,” the biographer added.

The White House called Wolff a “lying sack of s***” and a “proven … fraud.”

“He routinely fabricates stories originating from his sick and warped imagination, only possible because he has a severe and debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has rotted his peanut-sized brain,” Steven Cheung, the White House communications director, told The Daily Beast.

Trump, meanwhile, has claimed that the parade was a “tremendous success.”

“Last night was a tremendous success with a fantastic audience,” Trump told the press on Sunday. “It was supposed to rain. They gave it a 100 percent chance of rain, and it didn’t rain at all. It was beautiful.”

The parade didn’t attract as many people as expected, while thousands of “No Kings” demonstrations were held across the country on Saturday.

On Monday, Trump appeared alongside Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta.

“We had the parade the other day. They said 100 percent chance of rain. It didn’t rain,” Trump told Carney.

The president departed from the summit early to return to Washington, D.C., pointing to the conflict between Israel and Iran.
