So which is better the (WD TV-2 ) Western Digital or A.C. Ryan PlayOn!HD Media Player. Also include other media players besides the two i listed above.

I love the WD TV units I have now, but the only problem with it is it's scketchy mkv support. is there a unit out there that can play mkv's with no problem whatsoever and maybe flv files?..................

all I play on mine is 720p MKV files.... had no problems

well actually, I had audio issues with 2 movies... it kept cutting out for one second. I think it was the way the movies were encoded or something.

That's right...who wants to actually watch porn,ya gotta be able to speed thru:lol:

I don't use it for porn, strictly for movies and TV Shows. It's almost a necessity if you d/l a lot of shows. One series can be 30+ DVDs, can't be doing all that burning :smh::smh::smh::smh:

The AC Ryan looks pretty good. I like the interface, and the ability to transfer files is a plus.

However, I still don't like the FF/rewind abilities. How hard is it to offer a quantized (i.e. the >>| button) option where one can fastforward/rewind in 5 minute intervals?

That AC Ryan trying to take the crown. If the Pop corn hour (C200)was in the $150 -$200 range i would buy it right now.

That Popcorn Hour looks Meeeeeeeeean. I need to put my pennies together and get myself that and a hard drive to stick inside.

I picked up the new WDTV Live joint on Sunday and I'm loving it so far, no complaints. Best buy had 2 more in stock for $119.99. The pandora music, live365, Flikr and YouTube additions aren't a bad bonus they threw in either. Right now I'm transferring files via Ethernet port..hopefully upgrading to a wifi USB adapter soon since it allows the wireless option as well. That AC Ryan joint looks mean but this WDTV 2 does everything I need it to for $119. I can't see myself dropping an extra $50 for that built in hard drive space..not when I have a 1TB drive sitting right next to this one already. Anybody else cop this new joint? I still got a thing or 2 I'm trying to sort out..one being streaming movies from my computer to the player. As far as this thing having problems with mkv playback. I watched a 7.9 gig 720p .mkv file of La Haine without one hiccup or stutter..French subtitles and all, flawless all the way through.

Have you updated the firmware?

I have updated the firmware, but for some reason I still won't play mkv files. frustrating as hell. I checked the other threads and tried everything they suggested, but still no luck. that's the only complaint I have for the units. other than that I love em. it's pretty much the only way i watch movies now. any suggestions would be appreciated, but if they don't work I'll just get a different unit when I'm sure that won't be a problem..............

Man, I haven't come across any flv files since 2001 or so. What exactly is TrueHD? Compared to mkv 720p/1080p blu ray format I'm saying...

flv files are mostly from youtube, dailymotion, etc.

Dolby TrueHD is an advanced lossless multi-channel audio codec developed by Dolby Laboratories which is intended primarily for high-definition home-entertainment equipment such as Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD.

Fuck it im buying the Popcorn hour.

Wait did the new WD-TV get rid of red-white-yellow RCA jacks? :smh:

In order for me to upgrade, they're going to have to do something about fast forwarding/rewinding capabilities.

you mean this shit cant fast forward?

and what about iso files or dvd images? i download 720p and 1080p movies i wanna be able to just play them shits without burning or converting.

otherwise i'll have to figure out a way to build a server so i can mount the dvd images and stream to the plasma

I bought a new in the box, REAL rmv/rm multi media player from Ebay a few months ago.
I paid about $35 total.
One of the best gadgets I own.

If that WD TV-Live can connect to video sites like the ones on OVguide.com, then I'll pick that shit up next week!

yes, it can fast forward and rewind. i think hes referring to skipping. when you want to skip, you have to fast forward, then press next and it will jump ahead 10 minutes at a time.

and yes it does play iso's, but not dvd images. im not sure about this new model. i know the old model played iso's.

It'll fast forward/rewind at 2x, 4x, 8x, or 16x. That's fine for small times, but it becomes annoying when you wanna skip to the middle of a movie.

I'm bout to try this out right now. This device just became perfect.
