That's not true.
So called us Black people have a continent of culture which is Africa.
We weren't labaled as Black people before our ancestors came on slave ships to the western world.
Listen, I understand where your coming from, but we gotta keep it a buck.
We can trace our ancestors back to Africa, but Africa is a large fucking continent with 54 different countries. And the culture varies from country to country. So which country are you from? Burundi, Sudan, Ethiopia? I hate when people assume Africa is just one big Africa, like it ain't any nuance. White people stay doing this shit.
Me and you didn't exist when our ancestors came on slave ships. There wasn't a Black culture 400 years ago. I don't know about you (but I'm willing to bet you are as well) but I'm at least 3 decades deep in Black culture. My father, his father, and my great, great grandfather as well. Our family history was lost a long time ago.
When slaves were set free on paper in 1863 or whatever, they were already 200+ years removed from their history. So they just had to figure out how to live in the land of their oppressors. Arguably that was when Black American culture started.
If you can trace your roots back to your original country than that's what's up. But Africa isn't a country, it's a continent, and if you don't know your country then you don't know shit.
Going further, let's assume I find out my ancestors are from Togo. That's 300+ years of my tree being so far removed from Togo and their culture and customs, the language, the food, the music, etc. I'd have to google that shit. So why would I identify as Togolese?
But I can tell you Black language, Black food, Black music, etc.
