"Wage Slaves"

The term is generally meant to imply that a person lives by and for the work, a slave to the capitalistic urge to consume goods and live the normal prosaic life. The person you are a slave to is yourself. That said is it fair to argue that majority of people in the Capitalistic countries such as United Sates are "wage slaves" ?

I hoe we will have meaningful discussion on the subject

i thought wage slave meant someone who doesnt own their own business. Or someone who punches a clock and lacks residual income.

"Wage slavery" refers to people being forced to perform certain tasks for a wage, because they are (or perceive themselves to be) forced to earn such a wage to survive.

Seems to me most people in this country are wage slaves and living beyond their means. Alot of people their whole paycheck goes to rent and credit card bills. The whole concept of credit encourages people to buy all kinds of stuff they can't even afford. Makes no sense to me whatsoever.

So what are you trying to say????

.... having money saved up in a bank account from wages you earned is bad

Is this going to be a thread to "bash" americans and the way we live?

Majority of us are wage slaves to some extent. The fact that we must get up out of bed each day and go out into society to earn a decent enough wage to make ends meet ( pay the bills, keep a roof over our heads, feed ourselves and our family, and help to secure a reasonable future ) make most of us a slave to the system. Then again there are exceptions to the rule such as those who are lucky enough to have the financial security in order to live according to their own way and chosen life style but on a whole most of us are wage slaves until we earn enough or get lucky enough to pass that threshold ( well, we also also have a choice of opting out of the 'rat race' and become 'bums' and 'tramps' )

t's simple.

You are a wage slave if you cannot quit your badly-paid job, because your outgoing payments (i.e. your mortgage) would not be covered by the pittance you get to live on when you become surplus labour.

Saying 'you are not forced to work' is like saying 'you are not forced to eat'

Capitalism needs wage slaves to survive. Its core is based on the masses doing the labor while few get rich. The challenge (whicn they've manage to successfully accomplish) is to get the masses to think they are doing well.. it minimizes revolt.

Dude.... some of us are "self employed" .... We work for ourselves and we would much rather do that than be on someone elses payroll...

Me quittin my job is like me quittin on myself....

Again... this sounds like another one of your attempts to bash americans....

Opting out of the rat race does not make one a bum nor a tramp. Where I come from, people just do not have the same level of capital consumerism nor do they wish to. Its more about preserving the old than constantly buying the new. For example, if you have a color tv that works, there is no need to go buy the latest flat screen model or whatever. A new one will be bought only after the old one is broken and cannot be fixed. Same with a car or whatever else. I find in the States, people always have to have the newest of everything just to be cool or keep up with the Joneses or whatever it may be. Also, how many people you really know who actually like their job? There are a few but not too many. Most people I see here go thru the drudgery much like robots living for the weekends and their 2 week vacation.

why are you always so on the defensive for "american bashing" ?
there is nothing in his post coming even close to that. you are doing the same thing I have seen you curse people for on this board when they think things are racist and you deny it til the end :hmm:

just like it says in Machiavelli's "The Prince":
give the people just enough to feel "comfortable" but never let them get enough to gain any real power.

That is how most of the world lived before the introduction of capitalism. See, capitalism is a relative NEW system.. and it will not work if people thought like the people think where you are from?

A very high degree of social engineering and phsychological analysis went into created this mentality of the "Jonses". Its all a huge science project, or matrix, if you will. It is the nature of capitalism... create greed and your system of capitalism will work.. it can't work without it.

Me on the defensive..... get real....

Last I checked.... the owner of this board is from Atlanta Georgia..... Therefore it means BGOL is american owned and operated....Are you calling the HNIC a "wage slave" too. This guy is what we americans call "self employed." HNIC is an example of the diversity and creativity that exists in american people....

I find it funny that people from other countries like this board so much better than the crap they usually get out of there home countries...

Correct, I'm not a millionaire. I'd consider myself lower class, relatively speaking. I earn (via slave wage) about $140k per year, and I realize that is pennies in a capitalistic society. I also realize that, unfortunately, there are millions you earn way less than that, and millions more who live below the poverty level... that sad when you think about the false perception that Capitalism creates booming economies.

btw- Are you a millionaire?

Thats what the tv is for. The houses and people you see in commercials are supposedly "typical average people" yet the houses shown, most people couldn't afford. The tv shows do the same thing. i remember first really noticing this in the 90s whe this dumb show "30 something" was on and I saw all these people striving to live the lifestyle they saw there whether or not they could afford it. Sex in the city recently did alot of damage to women of all races in their 20s and 30s. Nobody can afford that shit but they try and max out their credit cards. Its a vicious neverending cycle.

So you think this FREE board provides enough income for the owner to survive as a self-employed American? Are you an idiot? oh wait.. don't answer that...

Not quite... but its something I hope to acheive one day.... I already have one relative that made it..

But since you earn above the average wage levell...I guess that means you donate close to 50% of your annual earnings to needy people....right.... or do you want the government to do it so you can keep every penny you have for yourself.

Show me where in this post anyone said all Amerikkkans :hmm:
Those who get up the same time every day, put on clothes they hate, take the same train every day and go to a job they hate and go thru the motions and go get drunk when they get off and do this every day for years and only live on weekends and their 2 weeks vacation are wage slaves.
You don't know what kinds of boards we have in our countries and last time I checked there are people on BGOL from nearly every country in the world. WTF is your problem?

Did you ask him how much he makes from this board????.... or are you guessin?????

what i've learned is,,, you are not truely an entrepreneur until you start a business that doesn't require you to be there,,,

if you start a business that requires you to be there everyday,,, all you've really done is create your own "job" with very long hours,,, not much different than a "wage sleve",,,

bromack1 said:

Did you?
How do you know he doesn't do other stuff besides just this?

I "donate" about 35% of my income, in the form of taxes. However, our crooked governemnt cuts back on social programs and spends more on weapons, so my donations never get to the needy. I therefore usually donate more to non-profit orgs, and that's a problem with in itself. I also make it a point to "buy Black", so that my community can survive... but gentrification often stifles that... the cycle goes on an on...

oh yes BGOL represents all Amerikkkan products and services :smh:
why are most Amerikkkan products made in China or Taiwan or the Phillipines if Amerikkka so fucking great?
As for services, my internet, cell phone, cable, banking and government services home are BEYOND FAR SUPERIOR to anything I seen in this shithole. Same with food markets, auto sales and repair, nearly anything.

So, does this mean youre retracting your idiotic statement about this FREE board and its owner being "self-employed"?
