I may just sit this one out. Midterms are pretty meaningless and everybody running is doing it to make big money for themselves. They can do that without my help.

wrong answer dude, you fail to realize how important congress is or can become...."look at the war" ....so by you not voting, either way dem or republican, you become the prolem itself, and the answer to right-wingers- prayers.

I agree with you on this one. You can't cast a vote one day and expect things to change, whether you support the war in Iraq or not it shows that you got to be willing to die for your beliefs or they will be taken from you.

Sorry dude, YOU look at the war. The war is NOT the only issue. We got bigger domestic issues to be concerned with but NONE of the candidates bothered to elevate them. Not one. That can only mean one thing, my taxes are going up and a bunch of old relics on both sides of the isle will continue to cut big government checks to themselves and to REPAY those who PAID MILLIONS to get access to Washington. No way will you ever get me to believe that if you, a businessman "donated" 50 thousand dollars to some politician, that you gave it out of the good of your heart. BULLSHIT! You did it because you want his vote on something that will benefit you.

It's how the game goes.

None of them are saying that they WON'T take more of your money once they get in office. None have talked about high energy prices, the high cost of heath care and their plan to reduce it. Just ads about the Bush war. Fuck you when it comes to how you figure out how to pay for shit. The war is all these politicians can talk about and you all sat by and let it happen. Well, not all, you let them spend months on a faggot in Washington like that's more important than a two thousand dollar emergency room bill a family got to come up with money for to pay for simple sinus infection.

The reason why most of these politicians CAN'T LEAVE Washington isn't because they enjoy having their personal shit debated on message boards and in the media, it's because the benefits of elected office are off the scale.

I'll probably wait until 2008 when Obama runs for the top slot and it better be the top slot. If he runs FOR second place, I just might sit that one out too.

Que, what do you post on the main board regarding encouraging people to vote.

I would love to get those knuckleheads to vote, or at least somewhat counter the African Herbsman and Muckraker campaign of, "your vote doesn't matter."

The federal government of the United States no longer represents the people. On sunday our vice president told the world that he doesn't care what the people that elected him think about his decisions. He's going to do what he thinks is right not what the American people think is right.

In any election where I feel no candidate will represent me I will not vote. I will vote for issues or referendums where my voice will be heard. But I will not vote and show my affirmative endorsment of candidates who will not represent me. As a man and a citizen I cannot do it. So if I do vote the majority of my ballot will be blank.

Voting just for the sake of exercising a right is bullshit. Voting is an affirmative expression of the will of a citizen. If the will of this citizen is not represented in the voting booth my affirmative expression will be to not participate. I am not choosing the lessor of two evils. If that is the choice I will not make one.

ON THE THE PROTEST VOTE. There are at least 2 ways to cast a protest vite: (1) Vote for the so-called lesser of two evils; or (2) stay home.

(1) In the first case, your voice is heard; and you change things, even if only slightly, if the lesser is elected. If the lesser of evils is not elected, everybody knows that those who voted like you are still a force that must be reckoned with. You STOOD UP. You let them know where you stand. Unless your views are just waaay out in right-field some place, there are others who feel like you. Sooner or later right-field becomes the majority. You should know, it happens all the time in this country and it looks like its happening in November 2006: there is a fairly good chance that a shake-up is about to happen in Congress, TOMORROW! ... IF PEOPLE DON’T STAY HOME ...

(2) In the second case, because you stayed home, nobody even knows you give a shit. If you don’t give a shit, no one gives a real shit about you either and those that get elected have no fear of trampling on your rights and ignoring your concerns. Why? Because you may complain but you won’t do shit about it anyway.
Wonder which protest vote protests the loudest ???

ON THE WILL OF THE CITIZEN
No Temujin. Its not the will of the citizen, its the will of the citizenS, collectively. Better still, its the will of the voters, collectively. I know I shouldn’t have to give this civics lesson to you, but I make this point so that you do not mislead others.

What is WILL? It is the hope, wish or desire of a person. In an election, how is that WILL expressed: by a person’s VOTE. When you stay home, the WILL can’t get counted.

What is WILL OF THE CITIZENS? The votes, taken together, of all those that came out to express their hope, wish or desire. When you stay home, somebody else’s hope, wish or desire gets counted, NOT YOURS. In other words, you leave it up to someone else to handle your business and we all know, we can’t count on others to handle our business for us. Or, can we ???

Peace,

Tomorrow is V-Day

Be Counted. VOTE.

Yeah Vote. If you are lucky your vote might be counted.

Broward County Florida - Already early voters say touch screen votes for democratic gubernatorial candidates are being registered as republican votes.

Virginia- Democratic Senatorial candidate Webb's whole name isn't even on the summary sheet. Diebold says there wasn't room and they will fix it next year.

Indiana- African American Congresswoman is rejected from being able to vote using her US Congressional ID.

San Diego - Ran out of absentee ballots, they are mailing xerox copies which they will then transcribe on to real ballots by hand

New Mexico - GOP is calling Democratic Party voters and giving out incorrect polling locations. Democratic Party Attorneys are trying to get a judge to bar the GOP from calling any democrats at all.

Maryland - Republicans have been given a guide which instructs them to go to democratic(black) areas and challenge voters - challenge meaning question their right to vote, identity etc

You don't need to post 40 yr old photos of black people struggling to be able to vote when white oligarch faggots are doing the same disenfranchisement shit right here and now.

up to 1 million african americans were cheated out of their votes being counted in 2000 and hundreds of thousands in 2004

Trying to vote doesn't guarantee that you will be able too in certain places in this country.

Its a federal crime to do what both democrat and repub are doing across this nation with tampering with elections and no one is in jail.

Taxation without muthafuckin representation. This nation is a fuckin fraud.

Its an even BIGGER crime, however, if you don't vote. Nobody can try to steal, manipulate or otherwise miscount a vote if it the person didn't make the effort to vote in the first place. The system isn't perfect but we give them the perfect right not to worry about us, if we don't vote.

Vote, early and often

Thanks for this thread, Que, my two cents...(from justvote.org)

Election Issues

Top Ten ways voting directly affects you:

1. It's your money.
The county commissioners, governor, state treasurer, legislators, president and members of Congress you vote for will decide how much of our wealth to invest in public services and how to fairly share the tax burden.

2. It's your children's education.
You elect local and state school board members who set public education policy and budgets that will affect how well prepared your children and grandchildren will be for the future. Decisions by our legislators, governor, members of Congress and president also affect the public schools-- and the quality and cost of higher education as well.

3. It's your job.
Congress, the president, the governor and your legislators influence what job training is available, minimum wage, pay equity, fairness in hiring, health insurance through your employer, job and pension security, and workplace safety.

4. It's your health care.
Action by the governor, legislature and Congress affects how accessible health insurance is to millions of Americans. Approximately 46 million Americans are still uninsured. Theses officials decisions on Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance laws determine your access to health care.

5. They're your highways.
America's population and traffic are growing rapidly. Your county commissioners, legislators, governor and members of Congress decide what highways are needed, what alternatives to highways such as public transit to support, and how to pay the bill.

6. It's your Social Security.
The president and your members of Congress decide how much payroll tax you pay, cost of living increases and benefit schedules for your Social Security pension, and what Medicare services you receive and share payment for.

7. You breathe the air and drink the water.
Your county, state and national elected officials set pollution standards, enforcement strategies and budgets. They plan and zone where roads and industries will be built and how public lands will be used --decisions that can determine how safe your air and water are.

8. It's your neighborhood.
Your elected officials and judges you vote to retain make daily decisions about crime prevention, laws and law enforcement, safe and affordable homes, traffic patterns, where to put schools, parks and recreation.

9. They're our children.
We do our best to keep them healthy, fed, safe, educated and cared for when we are at work or unable to provide. The officials you elect can help or hinder American families trying to do their job.

10. It's your democracy.
