WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (43-3, 40KOs) recently explained his decison to fight British Dereck Chisora (15-2, 9KOs) on February 18th in Munich, Germany. Explaining to SE, Vitali discussed the reasons behind the Chisora decision and gave his thoughts on other details related to the contest.

Vitali, why did you suddenly go with Derek Chisora?

It wasn't so suddenly. If you remember, last year he was scheduled to fight with Wladimir. For obvious reasons the fight never took place, but my brother pointed out that interest in really grew. Therefore, in our point of view Chisora was always a potential opponent. But after the September victory over Tomasz Adamek, I was having difficulty in finding a new worthy opponent. Yes, there were talks with David Haye, but as you know [those talks] can last a very long time. So we made a decision on Chisora.

What about the fact that Chisora is coming off a decision loss to EBU champion Robert Helenius?

First, in my opinion, he won the fight with Helenius. Chisora had the advantage and earned a draw at the very least. Second, Derek made a decision to become like David Haye and rattled off Wladimir and myself with many unpleasant words. The Brit is very ambitious and proud. Naturally Chisora wants to prove to myself and show that he was better than Helenius. Can there be any better incentive to prove that point than a fight for the WBC belt?

Do you consider Derek a dangerous opponent?

I have carefully studied Chisora's previous fights, and I can say that he fights very well at close range. Therefore he should not be underestimated.

The should have had a laugh track in the background during this interview...

Then again, who really gives a fuck...

Damn u could tell Vitali wanted to fuck him up right quick. I can't help but be reminded of how Apollo taunted Drago at the pre-fight press conf in 'Rocky IV'. :smh:

My only thoughts after watching the slap video is....

I miss heavyweight boxing...our sport is gone:smh::smh::smh:

Derek will probably get the "pizza face" for that bitch ass move...he slap Vitali something serious...:smh:

How the fuck do you slap the HW champion and he does NOTHING?!?!:smh:

trust me bruh he will do something :smh:...the Klits are quiet killers who don't talk much...they do their talking in the ring....

expect Derek to get jab & right straight hand all night until he is broken....

Vitali is that dude. I love how he handles himself. He can still get touched though. But this derek guy is going to come out hard but by round 3 it will be all Vitali.

Honestly, I could care less. I'd never even heard of this Chisora dude until now so he's got that in common with most Klitschko opponents. My point is up in close, inside like that, nobody should be able to get the drop on a champ like that. More proof that them dudes boxing "prowess" has more to do with them being much bigger than everyone else than they are skilled. Fuck this division anyway.:smh:

Just check this whole era off as the "Klitschko Era", let them retire and everyone else can fight it out to crown a new champion.

I hope Vitali is the last thing this piece of shit sees as he fades to black somewhere in the corner of the ring next to the spit bucket

I've got much respect for Vitali, just off the Lewis fight but this whole era of heavies is just:smh:How will anyone know how great they can be when they are facing cruiserweights who let themselves get fat for a paycheck. We NEED a super heavyweight division. They'll probably create it after these fuckers retire.

links?

Vitali got the decision curious how Derek fought the headlines say he on alot fans

Screw the fight....what dd ya'll think about the post-fight press conference? :D:D:D:D:D

post conference was interesting...I wouldn't mind watching Chisora Vs Haye

never saw Derek fight...but I read he fought well enough (against Vitali) we may see him again on a big stage...not to mention he knows how to sell a fight well.....
