Verizon Wireless has abruptly pulled out as the presenting sponsor on Gwen Stefani's current tour due to an incident involving the trek's opening act, Akon.

Last month, during a concert in Trinidad, the R&B singer danced provocatively with a 15-year-old fan. When footage of the onstage dance found its way online, Verizon got cold feet. (Akon's show in Trinidad was unrelated to and not part of Stefani's Sweet Escape tour, which began April 21 in Phoenix.)

In addition to ending its affiliation with the trek, Verizon has also removed Akon ringtones and music from its stores and handsets. The Verizon Wireless V Cast TV spots featuring Akon are also history.

Industry sources put the cash value of a tour sponsorship package like the one between Stefani and Verizon in the $1.5-$2 million range in cash, which artists typically use to finance production, startup costs and other tour expenses.

But marketing value can be worth as much as $1 million or more. Stefani manager Jim Guerinot, of Rebel Waltz, declined to discuss the financial terms, but told Billboard.com that "we're just in the beginning stages of evaluating" the impact of Verizon's move. Regarding the presenting sponsorship, Guerinot says, "We're surprised and shocked they've backed out of it."

As for Akon, Guerinot said, "Akon has been a perfect gentleman on this tour. His show has at best been a PG show. Children of all ages have been attending. We have had no complaints -- nothing but satisfied people. And I would say that we're shocked that Verizon would drop Gwen Stefani as part of this whole debate."

Industry observers say it will be difficult for Stefani and her team to pull another sponsor into the Sweet Escape tour, which has North American dates on the books through June 30 in Las Vegas. To this point, no dates have been cancelled and Akon remains on the tour.

Akon and Verizon spokespeople were unavailable for comment.

I was just watching it on headline news. Its a shame how the media dont give the full story, they just want to ruins akons career. The girl was 15, but was allowed to get in a over 21 event, at what point do these young girls have to take responsibilty for thier own actions. How was akon to know that she was under age. The blame should be on the club management, not the artist.Like the poster said "Props to Gwen for not ditching hime (yet)".

So what they try'n to shit on Stefani because of Akon...propbably hoping she would turn her back on him for loot and say fuck you nigga???

I'M STILL BAD said:
Props to gwen for not kicking him off the tour that's some real shit because you know they told her it's either him or us.

Co-sign for real....

this some real shit, if you look at the things that happen after
"Mr. Nappy Head Ho", it does look like things are going backwards,

If this juv was in that adult spot, and how Akon he was suppose to know, i guess he should have asked her,"Baby girl are you 21" this not on him kinfolk, now if the concert was at a different place and it was a teenage event, then shit yea fuck him, but this time he gets a pass on this one, if the chick was 21 what could be said nothing, she should have been 21, but cause her lil young ass lied and got in, he's to blame for this,

Yea Gwen did a good job of not turning on Akon...Thus if she did all that business with pharrell would/could go out the window.

As it's already been said, these concerts are not 18+ only.

this is a half ass story..

the club that akon preformed at was a 21+up club!

most of the concerts are all ages but at this preticualar club this was a 21 and up.... she sould not have neem allowed to enter the club...

and for verizon to do some bullshit like that was just wrong.. they dont know the whole story behind.. the situation.. i dont even really like AKorn like that but fuck verizon that was some bullshit..

how do we even know she was really 15? how do we not know that she did not have a fake id?

my companies 50 cell phones are verizon.. and the contract with them will expire next month, guess what... we swiching...
