Should have never fired the German. he made the team competitive and that's all the U.S. can ask for at this point.

The United States has failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

The U.S. lost 2-1 to Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday night while both Honduras and Panama won their games to pass the Americans in the CONCACAF standings.

Panama found a goal in the 87th minute to beat Costa Rica 2-1 to earn the region's final automatic qualifying spot, while Honduras advanced to the intercontinental playoff against Australia while dooming the U.S.

Panama finished in third place in the CONCACAF Hexagonal table with 13 points from 10 games, ahead of Honduras on goal difference, while the U.S. ended with 12.

In Trinidad, the hosts got on the scoreboard first when Omar Gonzalez deflected a 17th-minute cross that looped over Tim Howard and into the U.S. goal.

It was 2-0 in the 36th minute when Alvin Jones smashed a swerving shot from the right flank past Howard to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage at the break.

Christian Pulisic gave the U.S. the perfect start to the second half, firing home from just outside the penalty area just after kickoff to make it 2-1.

The U.S. frantically chased another goal in the closing minutes, but it never came, which means Arena's team is the first American group since 1986 to not make the World Cup.

Panama fell behind at home against Costa Rica before pulling out a 2-1 win.

Johan Venegas' goal gave Costa Rica, which secured its qualification on Friday night, a lead in the 36th minute.

Panama needed a victory after falling 4-0 to the U.S. on Friday, and they got the result as Gabriel Torres scored in the 52nd minute before Roman Torres became a national hero by scoring the winner three minutes from time.

In Honduras, Oribe Peralta opened the scoring for Mexico in the 17th minute, slotting home a Raul Jimenez assist to put his team up 1-0.

Alberth Ellis pulled Honduras level in the 34th minute, sweeping home at the back post from a set piece, but Mexico would restore its advantage before the break with Carlos Vela scoring after Hector Herrera played him through.

An own goal from Guillermo Ochoa put Honduras back on level terms early in the second half, after a Jimenez strike almost doubled the lead for Mexico, who have long since qualified.

And minutes later, the hosts took the lead through Romell Quioto, who smashed home from a Jorge Claros assist to make it 3-2 in favour of Honduras and send the home crowd into a frenzy.

Nah, it was time for the german to go but they should have brought in Martinez. They'll never go anywhere until they learn from a top flight international coach.

And the formation arenas had them in was stupid considering the condition of the pitch.

It's been time for Howard, Altidore, Bradley, and whats-his-name to go.

IMO this is the best thing that could have happened to them. Don't know what managers are available but arenas has got to go.

I don't know man.. Klinnsmann always had them respectable... I don't understand why Bradley is playing midfield.. you'll never be competitive with someone of his caliber being your midfielder.

Where is @DJCandle and the other delusional BGOL us soccer stans who constantly tell me American soccer is on the upswing??:lol:

Keep telling you niggas it aint happening no time soon. :itsawrap:
I'm here.

I'm actually glad we didn't qualify. Some heads need to roll cause this pay to play structure we got going on in this country isn't working.

We need to get our inner city youth balling if we're ever gonna achieve anything.

But that's got little to do with the sport taking off.

It has. The national team structure just hasn't caught up to it yet.

Never wanted JK fired in the first place either.

He had a plan. Ok so you take an L to Jamaica and Mexico but so what?

Arena is completely void of ideas.

I'd rather take an L with some vision than take an L papering over the cracks, just to get to a World Cup where we can exit in the round of 16 everytime.

Yep. I knew that was the beginning of the end. That was the best they have ever really looked and they fired the coach because of a slump..lol.. like yo.. the team really isn't that good.. he was getting everything he could out of them for the most part.

Panic mode sunk this ship.

Gulati needs to resign but he won't.

You shouldnt be glad bro. This is a devastating blow to US soccer on all levels.. The Cup is used as propaganda and advertisement to fuel soccer on the lowest levels and recruit participation. Not participating in the World Cup is gonna have obscene adverse effect on the growth and interest. This is a colossal fuck up of epic proportions and missed opportunity to reel in young talent... And right when you have a perfect storm of young available talent whose parents are shying away from real football on the youth level...

This is what i been telling YOU for years... Our most talented pool of athletes dont and wont touch the sport. Ultimately this is a failure of white american athletes and athletics and a total embarrassment for the nation. They put their best athletes and talent in this game when they're able to walk and after 30+ years of promise and investments they still cant compete on the international stage against 3rd world shit holes. White male american athletes fucking suck.

Also, i TOTALLY disagree about inner city participation having little to do with the sport not taking off (assuming i interpreted your point correctly). Athletic quality and national level of interest improves when the best athletes and talent start to participate and perform (ie BLACKS). This is known in athletics on all levels. US soccer has no one to blame but themselves.. The gate keepers have for decades strategically not ingratiated themselves to the most important talent pool for the sake of maintaining racial status quo and faux white dominance. US soccer is a got dam disgrace and will continue to be so for my lifetime and probably yours.

Eh. I don't hold THAT much weight in the Cup the way most do. Most coaches and managers will tell you the creme de la creme of world football is the Champions League over the World Cup. I agree with that sentiment. More kids today watch club football with more fervency and attention than a World
Cup. Most can name the starting lineups and benches for teams in France, England, Spain and Germany, but can't name the right back for Egypt or the forward for Slovenia.

I've been calling for our inner city youth for years. I coach here in the capitol and have done for a while now. I know what talent is available and I also know what barriers these kids have to go through in this country to reach the upper echelons of world football. It's all blonde haired, blue eyed, 4.0 goals political bullshit.

Yea I think you misinterperted that bit. I agree wit you completely.

Our talent resides in these streets, not the suburbs.

Yeah. Like you lose an entire generation man.. that's 8 years between cup appearances (at the earliest).. like that's a whole generation that never gets into it.. not only that... they run away because it seems like a loser ass sport now

This is why I feel like this is a blessing in disguise, IF we learn from it. Twellman hit the nail on the head...

Germany laid a goose egg in 2000. Created a ten year plan, (with Klinsmann at the helm) and a decade later won the cup.

This is what we need to do going forward. Focus on all the tournaments in between, be it U17, 18, 19, 20 & 21's, Gold Cups, Confederations Cups etc.

They need to focus on these now and push this next generation of Pulisic's through.

They gotta tear it all apart.. but i dont think they know how to do it.

Right. Im not talking quality of play or players. Im talking sheer selling of the game and propaganda. Its the biggest commercial on the biggest stage. And for the "biggest" nation to be a non participant is bad business all around. Theres no one to sell to the game to. No face to put on a pedestal, no one to promote as this Cups face of American soccer.. No jerseys or merch to pimp to the babies, no toys or cereal to brainwash the kids with...

Can you imagine how much money Pulisic just lost and all the corporate sponsors who were wetting their pants at the chance to build campaign ads around his white face? :smh:
