Sources: Doug Williams caught heat from Redskins for comments
5:26 PM ET

ASHBURN, Va. -- Washington Redskins executive Doug Williams apologized for comments he made Thursday, when he called linebacker Reuben Foster's domestic violence arrest "small potatoes" when compared to crimes committed by people in positions of power.

The Redskins claimed Foster off waivers Tuesday, three days after he was arrested and charged with domestic violence in Tampa, Florida. The San Francisco 49ers released him Sunday. Similar charges against Foster were dropped earlier this year.

VP Williams: Redskins unified in Foster move
Redskins VP Doug Williams said "a lot of thought" went into the team's decision to claim Reuben Foster and that "there was going to be some risk-reward involved in it."

Williams did not read from prepared text and did not answer any questions after his 80-second statement. He had caught heat both inside and outside the organization, sources told ESPN, after comments he made to The Team 980 during his weekly interview with the Redskins' broadcast partner.

"I want to apologize to the organization, my wife, my mom, my sisters and the six daughters that I have," Williams said Friday. "The last night or so [has] been real tough on me from an emotional standpoint, because never in my life did I say anything so insensitive as [what] I said. I'm not going to sit here and make excuses because there is no excuse.

"There's not a lot to say. No more than the fact that, if you know me, you would understand, growing up, I understand the climate and what's going on. For me to make comments like I did, I want to apologize to anybody out there within earshot, especially the ladies of this area, across the country. Like I said, I got six daughters that no way in the world I would tolerate anything like that. So for me to say something like that, I just want to apologize."

The Redskins have made it clear they will wait for the ramifications of Foster's arrest to play out in the legal system and at NFL headquarters. They said there's no guarantee Foster ever plays for Washington.

"We got people who are in high, high, high, high places that have done far worse, if you look at it realistically," Williams said during the radio interview Thursday. "And they're still up there. This is small potatoes [compared to] a lot of things out there. But at the same time, it's a big issue in America today, whether or not it's in football, whether or not it's in everyday life, whether or not it's in politics, it's out there."

The Redskins spoke to a number of people about Foster, including former Alabama teammates and his high school coach. The team, however, did not talk to the Tampa police.

"We are in the business of at least looking into [Foster's case]," Williams said in his radio interview. "I could sit here, and I won't, name a bunch of teams that took on players that got a lot of baggage that nobody's saying anything about.

"You can't get into nitpicking what they do and what you do. You gotta look at it from your standpoint. There was a lot of thought that went into it. It wasn't just a spur of the moment type of thing. We all gathered, we talked about it, we knew there was going to be some risk-reward involved in it."

The fallout from the Washington Redskins' signing of linebacker Reuben Foster continued Friday.

On Thursday, the team's senior vice president of player personnel, Doug Williams, used some controversial remarks about domestic violence when refuting a report that Washington was not unified in the decision. During a radio interview, he characterized what happened with Foster as "small potatoes."

On Friday afternoon, Williams made an unannounced appearance with the team's media corps and issued an apology.

"First of all, I want to apologize to the organization, my wife, my mom, my sisters and the six daughters that I have," Williams told reporters. "So, last night or so been real tough on me from the emotional standpoint because never in my life did I say anything so insensitive as I've said. I'm not going to sit here as to make excuses because there is no excuse."

The apology comes days after the Redskins claimed Foster off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners cut ties with Foster following his arrest on first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence charges.

During his radio interview, Williams seemingly tried to downplay what happened.

"Oh yeah, we knew that was going to happen, and like I said, rightfully so with all the stuff that is going on in this country," Williams said on The Team 980. "We've got people who are in high, high, high, high places that have done far worse, and if you look at it realistically, they're still up there. This is small potatoes [compared to] a lot of things out there. But at the same time it's a big issue in America today, whether or not it's in football, whether or not it's in everyday life, whether or not it's in politics, it's out there."

After the Redskins added Foster to the roster, the league on Tuesday placed the linebacker on the reserve/commissioner exempt list, which prevents Foster from practicing and playing for Washington pending the results of the NFL's investigation into his arrest.

Williams' statements on Thursday only served to further ignite the controversy surrounding Foster's addition to the team leading to Friday's impromptu news conference.

"If you know me, you will understand," Williams said. "Growing up, I understand the climate of what's going on, and for me to make comments like I did, I just want to apologize to anybody out there within earshot, especially the ladies of this area, across the country. And like I said, I've got six daughters -- there's no way in the world that I would tolerate anything like that. So, for me to say something like that, I just want to apologize."

Williams did not take questions from reporters before stepping off the podium.

**Hauls ass to fantasy football sites...
:roflmao::roflmao2::roflmao3:

That boy is double done! Good luck dickhead:smh:

That last kick was more comical than anything.

His boy snatched the phone from that one chick. Looks like she was recording.

He should have ran back to the room and closed the door. These chicks are not worth all the drama and hell he is going to have to deal with from the law and the media for years.

How come TMZ just so happen to get ahold of the video. I mean, this incident happened 9 months ago yet TMZ feel the need to release it now...

I'm not defending what Hunt did but this is the second time this website just so happen to have a video like this...

And,who are these people giving a website video like this in the first place...They should be fired immediately.
TMZ pays people for their clips and never has to give up their sources. Explains why people send this in with little fear of getting fired unless the corporate office investigates. Also why they are rarely taped directly from the security camera but rather someone videoing the tape from their phone. No tracking

Jemele Hill need to shut the fuck up.How about women stop thinking they can roll up on a man any time they want and not expect to get hit...Or,women should keep their hands to themselves because men have been always being told to do this since they're were a little boy...

Yea that big head bitch needs to shut the fuck up

Zeke Elliot’s acuser sent a text to her friend asking her to lie and say Zeke hit her. Her friend showed this text to the police and the police showed it to the NFL.

Six games...

This...

Today I had to fire a client in court because in the hallway dude said "You don't tell me what to do. I tell you what to do. You are my slave."

I wanted to beat the fuckng shit out of dude.

But

I'm a black lawyer in a courthouse filled with white people. If I beat him... the fact that he called me a Slave isn't going to work as a defense. My job is on the line. I've got people depending on me. So as a result...

After dude said that shit.. I calmly walked into the court. Talked to the opposing counsel. Asked the judge for a side bar and asked to be removed as counsel through oral motion and not written. There's no way I could continue on that shit. My motion was granted. I walked out of the courtroom and the court stated I could keep my full attorney fee.

Dudes who know they have eyes on them.. Have got to be smarter than this.

It sucks...

but you have to do.

Kareem's biggest problem is that he clearly kicks the chick while she on the ground.

Like that's bad optics.

*calls front desk.

“Hello, this is Kareem Hunt in room 6325. There is a person in my room who refuses to leave, could you please remove them? Thanks.

*continue collecting NFL checks

Chiefs were stupid though. They should have let him sit out the first six games. Now he’s going to miss the playoffs, they’ve already put him on the commissioners exempt list indefinitely until the investigation is complete.
