Ultimate Horror Film Thread

Confirmation these are related? Neither link seems to mention the other project or involvement of any folks connecting one to the other… just titles and both horror. Crazy how much HipHop shit in Eli Roth flick tho. Nas exec producer is wild lol

It HAS to be its the first thing I thought of when I saw the announcement.

Its just to close for comfort

I COULD be wrong.

Of course. I don't think he saying that. I think its more of COMMITING to something especially in this genre.

I like that Gunn is doing this and trusting the audience as a whole
I trust Gunn's direction. He's easily my favorite director in this genre of films. I even put him above Taika Waititi.

Not even up for debate...

But they ALL are iconic and trigger a visceral reaction decades later.

Sadly I dont think anyone cares as much about the importance of sound and music to create atmosphere anymore.

I think SAW might be last memorable horror theme?
Yeah, I think themes, at least for horror, are a thing of the past honestly.

I think some of that has to do with the fact that horror these days is less about a franchise of endless slasher sequels and more about making unique films. That's a good thing. Now, they won't all be good but it at least we're not getting 60 films with the same villain.

And I'd add that the most important sound is the one in the film rather than the theme anyway. That's what really creates the atmosphere of the movie. A horror film without a good suspenseful soundtrack just wouldn't be the same.

BTW, that video should've included the them from Alien, the wailing siren lol.

I don't know if I completely agree with this part 100% but understand your overall point. We can depend on horror for always trying to flip a highly recognized concept or theme in a unique way.

Shout out Obsession.

And i think thats why we are so much more forgiving of bad horror to the point it is it's own genre.

Shout almost everything on Shudder

we also have seen as always in Hollywood an instant attempt to then franchise that "unique" project. Even when the creator swore they wouldn't like Weapons.

And also go full Terrifier etc and set out to do it from jump cause well thats just how horror in Hollywood works.

And personally I'm cool with that in horror moreso than any other genre because its always been that since the start.

Sadly in the cable, video store, DVD, streaming era the disposable art thing has gotten more and more crushing.
