Been out of work since the end of last year. I've had some interviews but no luck. This is taking a toll on my mental health. I've been searching for IT leadership roles or project management. If anyone knows of anything, please hit me up.

I've had to take days off from applying, as it's just been wearing me out. I have been doing IT consulting at $500 an hour, but sadly, that's not consistent.

Tips? Thoughts?

Had family/closest folks to me laugh...when i said fuck corporate..baby steps or maybe service provider? Oh, not 4 the faithless...

Man, it's about to be wild out here. With Donald Trump firing over 100,000 federal employees, the game of musical chairs is about to be nuts.

They had some fools at my job taking the voluntary termination. Fuck that. Fire me, let me get my severance, bitches. And fuck Donald Trump

The insurance field provides stability.

Check all the big name employers, they all have IT departments.

You may have to take a claims or underwriting position to get in the company and then wait for an opening in that department. In the meantime you have stability and probably unlimited overtime.

This is why you need tariffs and other policy initiatives. Fools are talking about cheap prices, crying about paying $.54 for bananas.

If you step down doing some security or warehouse, you are going to be dealing with feeble minded/dangerous people. Many of them live in rough neighborhoods due to their limited income. Don't be surprised if they have a pistol in their car.

You got your Medicaid and EBT, definitely get some of that

I have a lot of friends in IT. They're all complaining about how hard it is to get jobs right now. They all used to work two jobs remote and now they're being laid off or their contract positions aren't being renewed. I have one friend who complains that the Indians are taking all the IT jobs because they're working for pennies on a dollar. Basically I just wanted you to know you aren't alone.

In D.C. things are unstable for everyone. It's not like you can foresee 12 months out...now it's like 6 months and you hope you don't get caught up in the wave. I lucked up getting a new contract recently but all those job hoppers during Covid are out there struggling. Them big salaries are gone.

imma tell you IT is NOT the place to be - i was bad before trump got into office

best i can suggest is branch out and try some other fields - certainly medical since they are always looking for people in some capacity

you also need to rewrite your resume to fit the jobs youre going for - show how your skills in IT are transferable and applicable to what they are looking for .

good luck

I'm trying to get more into project management. The crazy part is they pay more than my pay as a former director and they are often easier to get.

Uber, Lyft? Start something on amazon. Get two or three incomes. Look at Forex too.

well a lot of them ( project manangement ) are just limited time employment - so they may pay a lot but its going to be for a limited time until you accomplish whatever stage it is your are working for and then they determine if you are appropriate for the next evolution.

i dunno how old you are but if youre over 35 or 40 you will also run into just plain old age discrimination -
at 35 or 40 youre about near your end of usefulness for some companies since likely you will have higher salery expectations ( ie maybe you have a family or youre supporting a household ) and of course you may be decidng to have kids ( if you are female ) or have them already which will put a demand on your time outside of work and make you less likely to work in your off time. - also if you are an older worker youre likely to start becoming sick and thats a drain on companies bottom line-

there are stories upon stories of older workers (40s and 50s) who had no issues at their annual reviews ever suddenly having their work scrutinized and being cited or written up for seemingly minor fuckups as a preamble to letting them go because someone realized how old they are and considered them "difficult" or " incapable" of adapting or understanding new ideas in the market/industry. Tech is notorious for this .

and of course the hidden thing - Tech is racist AF - and you are really aat a disadvantage being black - they will hire an asian or indian or maybe even a latin before you....take a look at most tech development teams and the shit looks like a repubican rally. My brother works in tech here in NYC for a major international media company and he looks young ( black dont crack ) but he sees most of his dept is all young 25 -35 year olds - there isnt anyone older and they frequently let those older people go and replace them with a 25 or 28 year old for the lower salery they will have to pay them. and he is only one of 3 black people in a dept of 30 or 40 people

all of that to say - you need to really curtail and hone in on your qualifications and skills use terms and skill sets listed in the advertisement or posting as to whats being looked for and what youve accomplished thats unique....and of course applicable.

finally, if you are older remove any real discernible dates so that at least you arent making it easier to drop you in the initial round that machines and then people will actually look at your resume that are younger than you . if you got out of college 20 years ago drop that date of graduation and if your employment history is older than 15years, you need to maybe keep the last 10 years of what it is youve done ...

lastly getting employed depends on where you are in the country -so if youre in a area that really is not really hiring for other hourly service jobs - its going to take you longer to get hired at your professional full time service sector job - even here in NYC it can take as long as 6 months to get hired by some large companies - everyone is watching the economy .

there are some free cyber security courses - increase your portfolio - and again apply to things that are way outside of your tech background. that may be the way for you these days

I can? I thought you had to be 60+ or something.
Yes, you can apply for VA disability. Back issues, neck issues, hip, ankle, knee, elbow, PTSD.

I'm 90% and I get $2278/month. I'm trying to get 100% which will be around $4,000 a month. They just added 10% more but it's still not at 100% - those bitches

Tax free.

Hit me up if you want to know more

Most of what you said is right, but I want to challenge the bold.

The leadership and sales org maybe look more like a republican rally at tech companies, but the actual development teams dont. You are going to get mostly Eastern Europeans and Asians. Not exactly republican strongholds. Development teams look the way they do because to get really good at actually building resilient software you require a certain type of person(autist) who is simply going to not really be nurtured in our community the way they would in others. I went to a college in Atlanta and graduated with a CS degree literally during the explosion of the app stores and Facebook IPO date. There were like 5 of us in my graduating class with a degree in something that was clearly blowing up and there were so many others who simply didnt stick with it because of things like:

"I aint trying to spend all of my college years studying all the time"

or

"Im trying to pledge and get hoes and I cant do that with all this algorithm shit"

Some asian guys would say the same, but it was nowhere near the number in which I saw it from us....and even when they did it was already much more of them there than us so they could asorb the drop off. I've seen autistic Chinese dudes sit in the library for hours trying to get a coding project working back then, and have girls from their community who would get them food and support them going towards it. Nigga if you cant finish this project quick enough to get to the party? You a nerd and a lame and you will go without. I've seen dudes fumble the bag that way on numerous occasions. Society beats natural engineers out of a lot of us.

That's true to a certain extent - but ive been in a LOT of tech spaces here in NYC - and i have to tell you - i dont see many of US in those spaces and im not even talking about on the architecture side - just on the support and creative side .... even just hte management side

shits pretty non black - yes there are a lot of asians and indians ( H1B1 hires, students, etc ) but on the whole in the hiring circle that means who you meet with BEFORE you even get a interview with a dept or team leaders ( generally HR ) ....

shits pretty fuckin white.

Ive been 0% for a long time. I tried a few years ago to get it increased, and I failed. I had a femoral fracture in my leg while I was in a long time ago. Which caused back problems that I have to this day.

I had to struggle to get a black female engineer hired. She was a contract employee, and HR was giving me hell about hiring her permanently as an engineer. I had to prove her worth with data, surveys, work volume, etc. Finally, I just pulled my position rank and just hired on. I caught some hell over it, but she was the top-ranked technician on my global team, and as an engineer, she ended up being ranked #3 as a junior engineer quickly.

When I was hired at my last job, I got so many private messages from other black people excited for me in my role. It was a bit overwhelming. It immediately gave me a red flag. A bit later, one of the VPs who would have been on the ELT quit because they wouldn't include him in any meetings, decisions, etc. I should have acted then, as a few months later, I was in the same boat and was never entirely accepted into the ELT. However, I didn't care. I just felt like I had to put up an act of wanting it or they would work against me. In the end, none of that mattered.

While on active duty? If so, hit up your local DAV office now, like now. Do an intent to file
