UFC President Dana White on Thursday announced that UFC 140 will be headlined by a light heavyweight title confrontation between Jon Jones and Lyoto Machida.

Only yesterday, several outlets reported that Jones would defend his belt against former teammate Rashad Evans, but a hand injury sustained by “Suga” in his last bout will apparently require more time to heal. As a result, Jones will instead defend his strap against the elusive karateka.

Also featuring a pivotal heavyweight rematch pitting Frank Mir against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, UFC 140 goes down Dec. 10 from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Showcasing a light heavyweight scrap between Tito Ortiz and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, as well as a featherweight faceoff between Mark Hominick and Chan Sung Jung, the event’s main draw is expected to air live on pay-per-view.

Only 24 years old, Jones has dominated in the UFC’s light heavyweight division since his 2008 debut. A winner of five straight contests, Jones captured the promotion’s 205-pound title in March, dispatching then champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in the third round at UFC 128. Following his recovery from a nagging thumb injury, “Bones” defended his title successfully for the first time at UFC 135 on Sept. 24, applying a fourth-round rear-naked choke to turn away another former champion in Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

Machida recently rebounded from back-to-back losses to earn a spectacular knockout finish over Randy Couture in the hall of famer’s last fight. Prior to that successful April 30 showing, the Brazilian striking specialist had dropped consecutive bouts to Rua and Jackson in 2010, tarnishing his previously perfect record. Machida, 33, captured the UFC light heavyweight title in 2009, knocking out Evans at UFC 98. The karate stylist successfully defended the title once, outpointing Rua at UFC 104 before being knocked cold in their rematch six months later, losing the crown at UFC 113.

I liked Machida but I don't think he can fuck with Jones. I do think it's gonna be a good fight. Better than Rampage Vs Jones. I think this will be the best match up for Jones.

If Jones beats Machida, Jones Vs Silva Superfight has to go down. The should have Evans fight Davis or Rua.

Evans and Jones are best friends, why he just wont come out and say he dont want to fight Jones

No they aren't.They don't like each other.I think that Machida may end up being a tougher matchup for Jones than Evans because of his style and his length.

I highly doubt Silva would ever fight Jones. He's about 37 and would have to get paid more then any UFC fight ever for him to even contemplate this fight. It's possible but I doubt we would ever see it. Nobody wants to tarnish Silva's legacy like that, not that he couldn't been Jones but it wouldn't be easy at all...

Yes they are (or were) before he fought shogun they were clubbin together and all. And they had the same wrestling coach. After Jones won the belt Rogan ask him, "You said you would never fight Jones" and Evans said "well you should never say never"

Damn Rashad is snake bitten. IMO Rashad is the best match up for Jones based on familiarity and athleticism, but the longer he has to wait the less familiarity he will have with Jones since Jones is still improving.

Im actually one of the people who think Machida is a terrible match up for Jones, one of the worst in fact because Machida likes to use distance and pick you apart by striking safely. He wont be able to do that with Jones who has the reach to hit you from distance you cant hit him, and is fast enough to get out of the way when Machida attempts to strike.

This is an anticlimactic card, considering Bones just made light work of the cat (Rampage) who last beat Machida. I know styles make the fight, but from a promo perspective, it seems like they could have found a more appealing match up than this.

Nobody beating Jones for a while. We need to see Jones against a brawler to see what the chin made of. Thiago Silva vs Jon Jones

He just beat a brawler: Rampage. Thiago Silva would get Ortiz'd. He doesn't have the technical skillset or physical gifts to beat Bones.

Most of Ramage punches come out of clinches and counters, Thiago is more violent, and was a punch away from knocking out Evans if you can recall

Regardless, I still would like to see the fight. Fuck legacy cause I don't want to hear people say such and such could have beaten such and such if just the fight happended.

As for Machida vs Jones. As I have said before, Jones is like a new breed type of fighter. Don't get me wrong Silva and Machida have unorthodox styles too but Jones has that new breed unorthodox type of skill. For one thing he has too much reach on Machida. The speed is about the same. I give the power to Jones. He also has a height advantage.

I never said that they weren't in the past.I don't know but it's obvious that they don't like each other at this point.USA Today even did a feature before Jones' match with Rampage and Evans was talking some shit about Jones.

Rampage was a punch away from knocking out Evans, too, if you can recall. Not calling Silva a bum. Just saying he's not ready for Bones.

I will say one thing about Jones v Silva... anyone who really knows their MMA knows that if Jones doesn't wrestle the WHOLE fight vs Silva he will get Knocked the fuck out by Silva. Silva is one of those cats who has the hottest hands ever... straight up striking I believe he would KO anyone in the entire UFC. real talk.

Jones is cool but Rashad is my dude... I want to see that vs Ortiz Rashad come in and Murder Jones... I hope it happens. I know Jones is a beast and likely to win but that's how I feel.
