So..... if you haven't been paying attention to the goings-on in the MMA world this week... well....
Let's just say that this meme summarizes things perfectly:

UFC 223 was supposed to be a good fight card with two belts up for grabs, but nothing out-of-the-ordinary. By the end of fight week, however, things got waaaaaaaay out of the ordinary.

For a thorough timeline of events, please refer to this thread:
https://www.bgol.us/forum/threads/b...-following-rampage-at-barclays-center.996883/

For the TL/DRs, here is a brief summary of the events so far:

  • Beginning of fight week, Tony Ferguson (interim lightweight champ and 1/2 of the main event) trips over a cable during a press event and tears a ligament completely off the bone. Now, obviously, he's out, and now there's no main event.
  • Max Holloway (guy who won McGregor's featherweight belt after McGregor got stripped of it) volunteers to step up and face Khabib Nurmagomedov (the other half of the main event) for the lightweight title. He plans to show up Conor McGregor by taking BOTH belts that got stripped from McGregor (the lightweight belt has not, at this point, been officially stripped from Conor, though)
  • Conor McGregor gets officially stripped of his lightweight title
  • Max Holloway begins a grueling weight cut to get down to 155 pounds by Friday
  • Khabib Nurmagomedov (who has been desperately trying to get a fight with McGregor by any means), along with his team, run into Artem Lobov (Conor McGregor's close friend and training partner), who is all by himself (Conor and most everyone else are in Ireland). Khabib decides to take this opportunity to roll up on Artem and smack him around a bit, trying to intimidate him and bait Conor McGregor.
  • Conor McGregor hears about this and IMMEDIATELY summons at least 20 of his goons and they all hop in the private jet and head directly to New York.
  • Thursday press conferences go off without a hitch, everyone's getting ready to go home in a rented bus..... Then the hooligans show up:

  • Conor McGregor and his goon squad were let in by some of the guys that work for him who had been given press credentials. Once they were in, they tore through Barclays Center looking for Khabib. They found him on the bus about to leave. The hooligans surround the bus and, as the bus tries to exit, Conor grabs a dolly and smashes it through the bus window. Khabib is on the bus, but he never gets off.
  • The flying glass from the broken window lodges in the face of two fighters on the bus. They go to the hospital, and BOTH of them are deemed medically unfit to compete on Saturday, so both of those fights get scrapped.
  • Artem Lobov, Conor's boy, gets banned from competing on Saturday also, due to his involvement in the bus fiasco.
  • If you're counting, that's four fights that have been canceled, with only one of them having a chance to be saved.
  • Conor McGregor turns himself in to NYPD after an arrest warrant was issued.
  • The NYSAC (New York State Athletic Commission) doctors examine Max Holloway and deem him medically unfit to compete on Saturday. He isn't even allowed to weigh in. The main event is now off the table once again.
  • Anthony Pettis, who was already fighting on the card at 155 lbs, is offered the main event. He turns it down because they cannot agree on the money.
  • Al Iaquinta, a famously ignored fighter from Long Island, accepts the offer. This guy was not even given a name card during press events (even though he was fighting on Saturday), but now he's in the main event.
  • Iaquinta weighed in at 155.2 during the official NYSAC weigh-ins, which was acceptable since, at the time, he was not fighting for a title. UFC asks NYSAC to allow Iaquinta to weigh in again so that he can make 155, which is required in order to compete for that weight class' championship. NYSAC says no, so now only Khabib can win the lightweight title. A Iaquinta win means the title is still up for grabs.
  • Conor McGregor gets arraigned and charged with two misdemeanors and one felony count of criminal mischief. He's looking at possibly seven years. Judge allows him to go back to Ireland until June 14th, his court date.

  • Dana White says "fuck the commission" and decrees that Al Iaquita WILL earn the lightweight title if he wins, essentially breaking their own protocol.

And.... Now you're up to date, as of Saturday morning. So this is what we are looking at for tonight:

We went from 12 fights down to 9. Let's hope that we can keep these. I'm fully invested in the outcome of all of this now, given all that has happened.

Also, I'm glad that the Thug Rose fight is still on. I was looking forward to that rematch.

What do y'all think, fellers? Also, please post links if you got 'em.

End of the day, the fight switchups aren't a huge change for the UFC. Aftee Tony was injured , that fight just wasn't the same. The Max replacement was cool but still not the same.

Conor doing that shit is just Conor being Conor.

But the good part about the UFC is the whole CARD matters, unlike in boxing. New stars will emerge from their finishes in tbe earlier card.

I was really watching for Thug Rose vs Joanna anyway. Still a title fight and that should be a good one, along with others on the card.

In a way, Conor brought more light to the card. The fights in the UFC are better than the fights in boxing , point blank. And it's much more entertaining. If you notice, all the boxers are talking about it. It's the wave

Thank you, mannnn... Thank you!

I don't see why people are so surprised by this Conor shit.... Dude is a hood nigga from Dublin... He was on FOOD STAMPS just FIVE YEARS AGO!

What did Khabib expect was gonna happen if he pulled up on one of Conor's dudes while he was by himself. He didn't think that Conor was gonna retaliate?

Nate Diaz definitely knew what the deal was:

Are you serious? For fighters it is. Change is strategies and length of fight camp. Kabib going to destroy Inquinta.

That Khabib dude been running down fighters.

Yeah, but something irks me about him.... He drops out of waaaaaaay too many fights. It's easy to keep a winning record if you drop out of a fight whenever your toe hurts. Also, Khabib is just as big a dick as Conor is, but nobody know it because Conor gets all the attention. Did you see what Khabib said about Ferguson after he blew out his knee? He was like, "That's what you get for running your mouth" or something like that. Dude tripped and fell, and Khabib talks shit?

Well, people who talk shit should be put in their place.

im sorry for the one that think this card is the same, well its not.there was alot of good fights thats not gonna happen no more.it was 13 fights now its like 10 or 9.the main card is some bull crap.raging al is going down in the first round.max would have been cool to watch. Petis would have been boring and another wash out fight and he would have got creamed .this card is cursed and im shocked there still charging people full price for this card.

So, just to close out this crazy week, I predict that Khabib will get hurt during the fight then Iaquinta wins via TKO, since he cannot officially win the belt, Conor will remain champion...

Of course it is for the fighters. I didn't say for them. I said for the UFC and those of us who have been watching for a while. This happens a lot. Even for Khabib and Tony, this is the FOURTH time. Conor has had to switch several times and thats how he ended up losing to Diaz. Luke Rockhold ended up losing to Bisping. Cormier ended up having to fight Anderson Silva because if someone else's injury. He also had to beat up on a Starbucks worker in the ring because of injuries. It happens ALL THE TIME. it's how stars are made of destroyed. But that's just how it goes.

I'll be watching either way. I predict Khabib kicks Als ass but I won't relax til it's done lol

Lol I wouldn't like that but it's very much a possibility. Anything can happen man.

Sorry, can't side with Nate on this one. Actually Nate knows A LOT about posturing , so he would agree with Conors tactics on this bullshit.

We know Conor didn't fly 8 Hours with 20 guys to come and beat up on a bus - or actually he did , cuz he just wanted to LOOK like he wanted smoke.

But on an 8 hour flight it never occurred to you to PLAN to really meet the guy?

When people fight at the Barclays there's only two places they could be staying. Two hotels. Paulie breaks that down right here.

Khabib is there right now with people guarding all the way up to his room. Conor knew where dude was gonna be, that he could actually get to him. Usman talks about it right here

He's out on bail right now, he can't get his crew and go to the hotel? You can't get a message to him to meet you somewhere?

Or better yet, you couldn't have just made it known that you want to fight him IN THE RING? He's had NUMEROUS chances to get to Khabib. And Khabibs team got at Artum IN RUSSIA , months ago, about the same shit and Conor didn't say shit.

NOW, he shows up with cameras around , pitching a bitch fit.

If this was all for promo for when the fight goes down, I'll accept it, but until he signs to make that happen, he's just selling wolf tickets.

Another thing to consider: Conor admits to planning this out so isn't the fact he flew in from another country to commit an assault a federal offense?

Thing is, he prolly didn't fly on just to do this anyway. People just kinda went with that story. I doubt he would ever say it.

He was prolly flying to support Artum anyway.

But if his dumb ass did, your point is made lol

That's what I mean. They make it seem like he hopped on a plane to go see Kabib like he's a contract killer.

He never said it though. The story just ended up being told that way. But then again, from.what Dana is saying, seems like Conor even said it to HIM like that. Who knows? We'll see I guess

I have to pull the video, but Dana said he was texting Conor last night and he said apologized for the innocent people he hurt but he did what he felt necessary (or something to that effect) They also argued because in an interview after the incident Dana insinuated that Conor was on drugs.

Yeah once I thought about it , ya might have a point lol. I wonder if there's a law about that.

1. Khabib caught Artem by himself, while Khabib had his dudes with him.

2. Everything you say makes sense until you add cocaine to the equation, which most everyone is saying that Conor is on right now. His erratic behavior makes perfect sense if he's high.

Yeah He caught Artum by himself. And they let him go. Mostly because he submitted, knowing where he was, plus , they were ALSO. In front of media. Khabib just wanted to tell Artum to watch his mouth.

And maybe Conor is on drugs, maybe he ain't. Bottom line, be KNOWS where to go if he really wants smoke. He brought his dudes with him, not knowing whether he would catch Khabib alone, or with crew, so if he REALLY wants war, go do it. Or just talk your shit, then sign up for the one on one and get paid

Pulling up with a squad results in the same thing happening back to you. Conor took it overboard, but that's why he got locked up. The principle is the same. If Khabib wanted to send a message to Conor he could've done it by himself, the same way that you say Conor could've done it by himself.

This is such a short prelim... They are gonna have to fill a LOT of time.

Seems like Khabib was in the right. I can’t fault him for confronting a person that was talking shit about him.

I was pulling for dude that just won.... but there is one thing that I cannot stand about him...

The hyphenated last name!

Why do people fuckin do that????? I HATE that shit.
