Tyler Perry Surprised Me...Why Did I Get Married Was A Damn Good Movie

I had low expectations going into this movie, but I gotta hand it to the man. He put out a pretty good flick. The situations that the characters were in were realistic like a mofo. They had Jill Scott's character playing super dumb in the beginning, but I guess that's realistic too. Other than that, I recommend yall cats take ya chick out to see it. A good black movie that shows us in something other than some ignorant hood shit.

I thought it was good as well. His movies are typically pretty good to me, but yea I thought this one was pretty good. The characters tend to be a bit over the top...but they weren't unrealistic at all to me. I hope folks go out and support this one.

I saw the movie last night. It was very entertaining. It's a great movie for people that are having problems in their relationships. We have come a long way since the blackploitation movies of the 70's. The majority of characters written by black writers/producers in recent years are very successful, educated black people. It was also nice to see Tyler Perry in a movie that didn't involve him wearing a dress and heavy make-up. I believe that white people can also relate to this film.

A month ago Tyler Perry was BGOL's most hated black man.

Its because as black men sometimes we hate to look in the mirror or do any self examination. In all of his movies he has both men and women characters that have issues...we just tend to look at things from a narrow mind. The movie was great....the castiing was done good....it was a good relationship movie. And more importantly you had an Professor, Architect, Pediatrician, Lawyer, Hairdressers that owned their own salon, a sherriff...positve characters. I recommend it as something we all can learn from.

I still hate the crossdressing chitlin circuit king never have scene any of his movies and never will. I like great African American playwriters like August Wilson fuck a madea.

The "chitlin' circuit" was the collective name given to the string of venues throughout the eastern and southern United States, such as the Cotton Club and Victory Grill, that were safe and acceptable for African American musicians, comedians, and other entertainers to perform at during the age of racial segregation in the United States. The starting place of entertainers such as Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, Ray Charles, The Supremes, Ike & Tina Turner, Patti LaBelle, Jimi Hendrix, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Otis Redding, The Isley Brothers, and The Jackson 5, the chitlin' circuit (which derives its name from the soul food item chitterlings: boiled pig intestines) was the main way of seeing many popular black acts before the days of integration. Legendary guitarist Edmund Darris is known today as the king of the Chitlin Circuit. He plans to make a film about it.

Main theaters on the chitlin' circuit included the Apollo Theater in Harlem, the Regal Theatre (Chicago) in Chicago, the Howard Theatre in Washington, DC, the Uptown Theatre in Philadelphia, the Royal Theatre in Baltimore, and the Fox Theatre in Detroit.

At one point this chitlin circuit was all we had....look what came through it....sometimes we speak trying to sound intelligent and end up looking so dumb!

The Urban Theater Circuit which is what Tyler Perry and David Talbert call it is something positive. You have to agree with subject matter or characters...to each his own. I myself have never seen any of his plays nor do I get into the Madea thing but so what. We as black people aleady dont go to the theater...dont support live entertainment arts...so if this exposes them...congratulations. Sometimes we have to find something positive out of something instead of always focusing on the negative. Tyler Perry has done well to where he can expand his vision into movies and it gives us one more black writer/producer/director that can bring positive work to the masses. Instead of focusing on how Madead has a dress on...or how his plays are urban themed...worry about the bigger picture. You the same nigga that probably sitsd at home and watch shit like Flava of Love.

 Movie was incredible to me...I'm still surprised. I give it a 9.5 out of a possible 10. I was tired as all get out when I went and not particularly fond of Tyler Perry productions...Daddy's Little Girl being just o.k. in my book.

...but this movie was friggin' BANANAS!!! You'd have to be a brain-dead zombie, a black-market film critic (someone who can see through shadows, audience laughter, and bad audio to the heart of the story), or who doesn't remotely associate with the black experience to think other-wise.

It dayum near broke into my top 10 of all time. I RECOMMEND IT.

Thanks but I know what the chitlin circuit is My sister wrote her doctoral thesis on it. Tyler Perry Destroyed what good african american theatre use to be with his stereotypical bullshit. What use to be the breeding ground for young black actors writers and musicians is now the graveyard. How many times have you heard on the radio. "My baby daddy ain't shit" Staring Malik Yoba K-C from jodeci and silk."

What happened to our African American plays and playwriters is bullshit uneducated writers such as Tyler Perry became popular on their microwave play bullshit. And now he has spread his fungus to movies. Thanks but no thanks. His shit is straight up wack. If you have ever scene a real play then you would know how bullshit Tyler Perry's shit is. Just cause you have low expectations for our abilities as writers doesn't mean I have too. I expect more out of our art and I will not dumb myself down because Tyler the Fag Perry is popular. Fuck him.

And no I don't watch flavor of Love I told you I'm still trying to see all August Wilsons plays before I die.

Its cool man...we agree to disagree. I myself am an educated black man so I understand full what you are saying. It just seems to me that we are the only race that does this to each other. It almost like trying to disassociate ourselves from certain things to appear that we are smarter or "not like them" and its ridiculous.

There are blacxploitation films, poor representations and so forth way before Tyler Perry stepped on the scene. And unfortunately they will be there after hes long gone. So why attack this man and make him the reason for all the issues. Because hes successful and like we always do with our crab in the barrell mentality...we attack our own.

We see it everytime...

Why did Halle Berry win an Oscar for that type of role...she was acted like a whore.

Why did Denzel Washington win an Oscar for playing a crooked cop?

Why do we have shows like Martin and The Wayans Brothers...they act like buffoons.

NWA blows up Gangsta Rap and all of a sudden they are the reason for gangs in LA and so forth.

Why are black writing these urban novels...wouldnt they be better served writing something of literary substance?

And the list goes on of how WE continue examine each other and really target shit that doesnt matter as the reason for the ills in our community. Fuck the N word...do something about drugs, illiteracy, homlessness, violence, drop out rates, teen pregnancy, single parent homes and so forth. When white folks run around acting like Ben Stiller, Jim Carrey, Will Ferrell...no one uses the words buffoon or ignorant....when Arnold, Sly, Deniro, Eastwood or whover are totin guns and playing mafia figure...we dont ask them why are the protraying these negative roles and what its doing to society. When Ozzy Osborne, Marilyn Manson, etc are making all that bullshit...we dont attack them like we do our hip hop artists. My problem is that its always US doing it to each other with our hidden agendas or put up this certain "Im an educated black man front...not like them other negros".

I saw it last night and I thought it was worth the $8.50 I paid to get in (that's really all I could ask for)

It's a movie it's not changing lives, and for the critics of Tyler Perry and his works why come in the thread just to tell us how much you hate him and his stuff. If you don't have any specific discussion about charachters, plot, setting Or you have not seen the movie keep it moving go find one of the many porno threads to look at. :smh:

Why other alleged black people always got something negative to say when somebody else is doing their thing. BlackEnvy will kill us all :smh:

I can't front..I am a little biased because its hard for me to see how a Gay Male can write about heterosexual relationships, and I have a hard time forgiving him for his "cooning it up past"....but if you guys say its good...i'll give it a try, I guess this proves people can change and grow as an artist. Speaking of August Wilson.....

"They say that Tyler Perry has set the Black race back some 500 years with these types of "chitlin' circuit' shows. The problem with the naysayers is that they don't take the opportunity to see my shows," Perry argues. "With my shows, I try to build a bridge that marries what's deemed 'legitimate theater" and so-called 'chitlin' circuit theater,' and I think I've done pretty well with that, in bringing people in to enjoy a more elevated level of theater."

At one point, the criticism made Perry feel ashamed of his productions, that is, until playwright August Wilson gave him a few words of advice.

"August said, 'Do what you do. Don't worry about these people, do what you do because I don't think it's bad at all," Perry recalls. "And his words just shed a whole new light on everything."

Take the time to read this article...dude went homeless trying to pursue his dream. Did he rob, steal, and slang to get out of his situation...no he kept pursuing his dream. He was molested and sexually abused as a chile...rose above it all. His first play was about someone thats been abused who forgives his abuser and moves on. But as usual we focus on the wrong shit!! Im done talking about it.
