On not wanting to be labeled as African American:
"I mean, I don't know where my roots go to," Raven explains. "I don't know how far back they go... I don't know what country in Africa I'm from, but I do know that my roots are in Louisiana. I'm an American. And that's a colorless person."- Raven Symone

I felt so...vindicated when I read this. As a younin' I thought most of what she said, I felt that I couldn't identify myself as the African part of American because I had no idea where my roots go. For a period of time I simply referred to myself as 'person' when it came to that label. People looked at me funny, and wondered what the hell is this chick talking about. But the thing is, we as Black people in America (a label which I have grown to embrace) we are lucky if we can narrow ourselves down to a modern country in Africa, let alone a group of people.

I don't agree with all that was said in this interview but sometimes it's nice to know that being vilified for your feelings and thoughts as one person isn't so bad if others can come to the same conclusion.

Circumstances can grow kindred feelings.

Oh yea

Reruns of RuPaul's Drag Race are fucking golden. But where are my reruns of Untucked? I want Untucked in the Interior Illusions Lounge with my Absolut cocktail. :(

So, even though you're clearly "black", you'd rather describe yourself as "colorless"? And, you'd rather subscribe to an idiotic theory than accept your obvious heritage? C'mon man.

I never said that.

I said I rejected the term "african american" simply because the term is too broad and there was no way of me knowing 'where in africa'. if someone says they are irish american they have roots from the country of ireland. africa is not a country. Associating yourself with a label implies that you know the meaning behind it and the blocks that built it. Think about what slavery did to us for a moment.

Let the record be known that i never said i did not consider myself to be Black. If anything that is the only label I will embrace.

Did you miss the part when I said I had these thoughts years ago as a youngin'?
