Community boards, contacting local government and active involvement in the PTA is key
sadly more of the public schools that are FINALLY receiving funding and improvements are getting more and more difficult to even get into to.
As white people move into our neighborhoods and police presence grows, property value (and rent) increases and business grows schools improve.
Then the original residents get "zoned out" or just can't get their kids into the schools.

I've been trying hard to do so lately...I can't believe how difficult it is. They say I always play old school music for them...That Pharrel Happy song was a blessing...because it REALLY motivated me to listen to music WITH them now...but they STILL hear the hardcore trash even though I never hear them play it in the house and I don't play it either.
I have no idea how a 4 and 5 year old know Nikki songs?
I sing this for them when I pick them up from school to embarrass them...

I have been trying to ensure that they don't listen to the "trashy" ish at home I expect that they will hear it but its up to us to teach them the meanings of the vibes they listen to. And yes it is very tough finding new stuff that they can listen to. So like you I stick to a lot of older stuff.
LOve the Happy song but man I can only listen to it so many times.....lol A blessing and a curse wrapped into one. lol

I had to buy all the learning kits for Team Umizoomi too...but I didn't mind cause the girls love math problems now. Sid the Science Kid, WallyKazaam, Cat in the Hat...

But Doc McStuffins RUNS the house now...I am so proud that they have a character like her now I have little girls running around wanting to be doctors scientist paleontologists and astronomers!!!
I got the soundtracks to all these shows now...and I try to JOIN them as much as possible as show them its OK to be smart, independent and different.
So even though I;m tough I try to be involved in what THEY like and still be silly...its not easy cause one time they left Happy on for 4 hours straight.
