TV SHOWS / SERIES - Seen any good ones lately? Please feel free to post reviews / feedback / trailers / articles / TV news / all that shit ...

That's a good point. It's almost like an indie blend of comedy - drama.

Have seen all of ATLANTA thus far.

Definitely want to see RAMY. Have heard good things from podcast reviews and critics.

Only caught a little bit of LOUIE.

Caught a few episodes of DAVE and thought it was pretty good.

Saw part of 1 episode of AWKWAFINA / NORA FROM QUEENS.

How did you like Atlanta?

Yeah the critics LOVED Ramy - wasn't that porn star on it?

Louie was f*cking BRILLANT (in real life apparently he is a jerk but still)

Yeah Dave seemed ok but I felt like at the time FX had way to many shows that were THAT "genre" and I couldn't get into another one

Yeah never watched Nore form Queens, I was going to but Awkwafina kept saying dumb sh*t in the media I just couldn't

that is the gift curse of these genre of shows it so much based on the LEAD that their off the court shenanigans REALL effect your enjoyment of the show.

@playahaitian

Speaking of The Office ... this opening scene from the original series still makes me laugh. Perfect introduction to the character, lol. I remember taking out season 1 from the library on dvd back in the late-2000s. Turned it on, laughed & knew I would watch the rest soon thereafter.

master work

PERIOD.

Sidebar:

I have a great sense of humor but I MYSELF don't laugh easy

I mean damn near never

So people in my circle know that if something makes me REALLY LAUGH?

It must be hilarious and genius

I had to stop this series so many times because I LITERALLY could NOT WATCH some moments

IT was TOO funny I couldn't handle it.

I just my brain the levels of funny from writing editing acting music EVERYHING

I have to think for a minute and consider

the VERY short list of shows SO FUNNY

I actually couldn't watch it -

I think the Office UK

Psych

KIds In the Hall (original series)

are the only ones to I can definitively put on that list right now.

Still enjoying Atlanta. Just hope the next season has more of the lead cast that we've all enjoyed watching from the prior seasons. Their dynamic(s) as a core group.

Unsure about a porn star on Ramy - haven't seen it yet.

Yes - Louie's profile has certainly taken a hit in recent years.

Good point about networks like FX and others having similar themes / shows. It's hard to keep up with everything.

Good point about Awkwafina's media presence.

Speaking of off court shenanigans ... the whole dating sex "scandal" with Aziz Ansari really stained his name for awhile. I wonder how it affected the overall Master of None viewership? I only caught part of season 1, but have meant to see more of that show.

Yes - legitimately funny. So glad that The Office US became its own thing too and had a long run on network TV (and plenty of love on Netflix). Damn funny in its own right, and so many lol moments on UK / US. Awkward, cringe, uncomfortable. Breaking the 4th wall and looking at the viewer, haha. The UK version only had the 2 seasons, right?

Knowing Ricky Gervais doesn't give a fuck either ... and will roast Hollywood A-listers at the drop of a hat too ... makes him even funnier in his years since in other projects and hosting gigs.

I loved 1st 2 seasons of Master of None when it revolved around Aziz, s3 where it was around Lena Waithe fell off hard to me. Out of that genre for what I've watched, I still have Master of None and Atlanta in my tier 1, Ramy and Dave in my tier 2, Awkwafina in my tier 3. I never watched Louie and probably won't

this is why I tell folks aint no cancel culture

Cause if there was anyone and I mean ANYONE who would have been truly cancelled?

It would have been HIM.

Cause think for a minute

ELLEN got cancelled

and NOT Ricky.

It did and it shouldn't have

because he was such a RARE case of damn near EVERYONE

male female LGBTQ+

actually DEFENDING him.

He tried to address in his recent stand up and it failed.

But that man is legit funny.

Been meaning to watch THIS FOOL and MO in the near future too.

Current 2nd season of RESERVATION DOGS is still good. Even though it would be great to have more of the core cast each episode, I like how they focus on 1 person. Fave episode so far this season is the one that focused on Elora and her ailing grandmother.

He had some great lines & quotables on PARKS.

Gonna be interesting. The episode recaps / discussion are always interesting to read on BGOL and listening to podcasts.

Could WE be finally reaching a limit with TOO MUCH content?

I'm talking EVERYTHING

Streaming shows, social media and podcasts

I know the objective is to find a niche and service it

but could there be a oversaturation point?

cause notice how much in 2022 and hour long drama seems like a LONG WATCH?

Our attention spans are getting SHORTER and SHORTER as time goes by

Obvious Quibi was a train wreck

but could it be they were just TOO EARLY to the game and improperly executed?

And shorter content is TRULY the wave of the future?

100%. Oversaturation a long time ago. Crazy to be in a world wherein you can follow a shitload of stuff, and still probably only be seeing less than 5% of what's out there. Same for podcasts. Everyone and their mama has one. And surprisingly - many of them are pretty damn good. Thousands of TV shows / hundreds of thousands of podcasts. Damn.

Lol @ Quibi ... you're right ... they probably entered the landscape a bit too soon.

Attention spans aren't going to get any longer / better years from now.

The limited / short series are definitely where it's at. Anything in that 5 - 12 episode range. Enough to properly tell the story, without having a bunch of filler material. Many of the best shows being 5 - 8 episodes in recent years.

Funny how you have to schedule what to watch. Avoid spoiler landmines in the process.

Then think back to the days of only 3 - 5 channels on the boobtube.

No wonder some of those shows generated 50+ million viewers, lol. Ain't shit else they had available to watch. Streaming? Internet? IPad? Netflix? BGOL Cinema?

What are thhhhhhhhose?

SPOILERS!

I feel like this may even be a separate thread topic with all the after shows and pre shows and daily shows and podcast about EVERY SINGLE SHOW

How in the HELL are people NOT able to be spoiled at this point?

we are surrounded by spoilers!

Sidebar: I was pissed someone recently stole my decades long idea to make a documentary on movie trailers

I am gonna drop this one

a documentary on how these major studios are able to keep these movies biggest moments secret with thousands of people working on them? Better than the damn GOVERNMENT!

Agreed - so much coverage with podcasts and web reviews / articles.

Gotta be really careful to avoid spoilers. Still end up hearing some along the way.

That's a good point about HOW studios are able to avoid major leaks along the way. The NDAs must be pretty solid. Damn shame that too many trailers tend to ruin movies in 2 - 3 movies still.

Interesting re: a documentary on movie trailers.

Noticed there was a documentary about podcasts. Been meaning to watch it on TUBI - believe it's called EARBUDS.

Funny side note ... one of my fave movie podcasts is called THE COUNTDOWN: Movie and Television Reviews.

They usually update a few times a week and are from Australia. Pods are usually 20 - 35 minutes. The hosts are 2 friends named Wayne and Paul. Paul is married with a kid. More mellow. Wayne is single with no kids in his mid-40s onward. They have a funny tone to the show and Wayne is forever not politically correct. Has a laugh which is like a hyena. Or to my ears at least - I listen to shows at 1.8 - 2x speed and always get a chuckle when he says some wild shit & laughs hysterically.

Their format is pretty good ... they usually vaguely review the movie for the first half of the episode ... clearly state they are going to talk about spoilers, and then do those in the 2nd half of the episode.

They have collab'd with some other movie podcasts over the years and I've enjoyed listening to those other shows thereafter.

Got into THE COUNTDOWN podcast during the pandemic. Was listening to more review and recap pods.

Yeah definitely too much content for a good few yrs now, crazy thing is I think I'm the only one in my diff social circles that still watch mostly weekly tv show formats rather than binge watch like they all do

The best thing about the weekly format shows is it gives you something to look forward to. Knowing which shows you want to check in with weekly, or others you let pile up for a handful of weeks before mini-marathoning them.

REALLY?

I used to be TOTALLY against this format

because Netflix spoiled me so much and growing up my entire life with weekly and re runs I thought I would never go back

but damn it Marvel got me doing the same thing

but you are right most people will NOT WATCH save up the show keep away from spoiler the best they can and BINGE

Sidebar: Some show are not binge friendly

which an entirely DIFFERENT thread.

Yeah if it was up to me I'd have every platform go back to the weekly release model, i was just never converted into the binge model by Netflix like all my friends did

Started the 2 series THIS FOOL and MO yesterday from the BGOL & online recommendations of late.

Really enjoyed both & will continue watching them.

MO on Netflix Im 5 episodes in on this slick, fast and funny dramedy about a Palestinian refugee living one step away from asylumand but obstacles keep popping up.... im enjoying it so far. Mo Najjar actually reminds me of one of my old high school friends.Teresa Ruiz portrays his girlfriend Maria a determined, loving, cute and supportive woman a man deserves.

Im not upset about this series saying it's blasphemy ,or on board with people saying there shouldnt be people of color in the series and so on . Im enjoying it, there is enough
to connect you to the films of the past and enough for me to care about this prequel series. Does it stall here and there? yes and i do hope the story thread
involving the Harfoots and the"mystery character" is not drawn out. Im enjoying the visuals and seeing parts of the
Lord Of the Rings world ive never seen .
