Both Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends are getting reboots

Powerpuff girls and Foster

Some pieces of media and art immediately send shockwaves through the culture upon arrival. When The Simpsons first season debuted, the cartoon was instantly heralded as a genius counterculture masterpiece. The Powerpuff Girls had a similar effect on pop culture in the mid-90s. Even though Cartoon Network was batting 1000 in the mid-90s with original content, the subtle feminist themes of The Powerpuff Girls, coupled with hilariously veiled mature gags, made the series the crown jewel of the channel.

The Powerpuff Girl's creator, Craig McCracken, also produced Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends for Cartoon Network in the 2000s. Although Foster's never reached the heights of popularity that Powerpuff Girls achieved, the series became a cult hit for Cartoon Network, with a passionate fanbase that still exists today.

Well, fans of both Foster's and Powerpuff Girls have cause to celebrate today. According to Deadline, Craig McCracken is spearheading reboots of both series at the European branch of Hanna-Barbera Studios.
Craig McCracken, Emmy-winning creator of The Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends, has teamed with Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe to bring new animated versions of the classic series back to the small screen. McCracken, who first began his career at Hanna-Barbera Cartoons 30 years ago, is developing animated reboots of both series at the studio.
The Powerpuff Girls reboot revisits and expands upon the world of the original series as Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup face off against a gallery of villains comprised of familiar foes and new threats. The original series debuted on Cartoon Network in 1998, earned two Emmy Awards and numerous animation honors throughout its 78-episode run. The Powerpuff Girls centers on three sugar-coated superheroes — Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup — whose mission in life alternates between going to school, fighting crime, winning at hopscotch, and saving the world before bedtime.

A live-action reboot based on the original Powerpuff Girls Cartoon Network series remains in development at the CW. The network announced last year that the pilot was being re-worked and re-piloted off cycle. Talent deals for cast have lapsed but the project, from Warner Bros TV and Berlanti Productions, remains alive at the network.

The beloved Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends will return as an original preschool animated series with a new cast of preschool-aged imaginary friends, promised to be "as silly and playful as the original bunch." The original series ran for six seasons from 2004-2009 on Cartoon Network, earning six Emmy awards during its run.

The networks are on a bloody rampage this year, guessing we are about to get hit with a lot of dumbass reality tv shows :smh:.

CW’s ‘Powerpuff Girls’ Live-Action Footage Leaks: Bubbles Is Drunk, Buttercup Hates ‘Gender Normative’ Costume and More From Canceled Show

Powerpuff Girls

The CW
In 2021, The CW ordered and shot a live-action “Powerpuff Girls” pilot starring Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, Yana Perrault and Donald Faison, only for the series to be canceled and never see the light of day — until now.
Footage from the canceled series has been leaked onto YouTube and made into a trailer. Sources at CW confirmed to Variety that the footage is real, but a final trailer was never assembled before “Powerpuff Girls” was axed. At the time of the cancellation, CW may have been putting together a trailer for upfronts, but sources say the leaked footage would not have passed CW standards. The network sometimes used outside vendors to assemble trailers, so the leak could have been a rejected trailer from a third party. It may also have been a Warner Bros. TV trailer created for L.A. screenings or San Diego Comic Con.

Nevertheless, the leaked footage spread on social media Thursday. It introduces Bennett as Blossom, Cameron as Bubbles, Perrault as Buttercup and Faison as Professor Drake Utonium, who created the trio of heroes in his laboratory. The trailer shows younger versions of the Powerpuff Girls, their rise to fame (which included the original Cartoon Network series) and their lives at young adults. Blossom was “constantly stressed,” Bubbles was “constantly drinking” and throws up in a trash can, while Buttercup was “constantly rebellious.”

“I’m not wearing that dress anymore, it’s gender normative and ass ugly,” Perrault says. Things change when the Powerpuff Girls accidentally kill the adult, human version of Mojo Jojo, which results in Blossom running away, Buttercup working as a firefighter, Bubbles moving to Hollywood and Mojo’s vengeful son Joseph “Jojo” Mondel Jr. (Nicholas Podany) becoming the mayor of Townsville. Seven years later, the Powerpuff Girls reunite to fight Jojo Jr., who’s brainwashed Townsville and framed Prof. Utonium.

“Oh God, they’re all possessed. This is exactly like the gathering of the Juggalos,” Bubbles says as the heroes watch citizens riot.
“You’ve been?” Buttercup asks her.
“Oh yeah, I’m down with the clown,” Bubbles replies.
The Powerpuff Girls save Townsville, their father and their reputations as they are embraced by their fans once again. The trailer also teases a romantic spark between Jojo Jr. and Blossom, but Blossom assures her sisters that he isn’t obsessed with her.

“Yes, he was, and I bet he still is. But in, like, an angry, kinky, hate-boner kind of way,” Buttercup teases her. To which Bubbles adds, “That’s the best kind of boner.”
The live-action “Powerpuff Girls” picked up steam in spring 2021 when it cast its trio of stars and was ordered to pilot. Oscar winner Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier were writers and executive produced, along with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and David Madden. Warner Bros. TV was also producing. However, the pilot was later overhauled and re-shot in May 2021, and Bennet dropped out in August.
“The reason you do pilots is because sometimes things miss, and this was just a miss. We believe in the cast completely. We believe in Diablo [Cody] and Heather [Regnier], the writers. We believe in the auspices of Greg Berlanti and Warner [Bros. TV] studios,” said CW chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz at the time. “In this case the pilot didn’t work. But because we see there’s enough elements in there, we wanted to give it another shot. So that’s why we didn’t want to go forward with what we had. Tonally, it might’ve felt a little too campy. It didn’t feel as rooted in reality as it might’ve felt. But again, you learn things when you test things out. And so in this case, we felt, let’s take a step back and go back to the drawing board.”

I GOT what they were TRYING for...

I am a Donald Faison loyalist I THINK it could have worked.

Maybe. Possibly.
Donald is cool with me, he's been around basically since I was a kid so I always root for the guy staying in the picture

However..... Idk man... This looked rough, If I didn't see official sources talking about it I would have thought it was from one of those fake trailer pages made with A.I. lol

It was... ROUGH.

I GET what they were TRYING to do.

But it was a bad plan. Each shot kinda is framed the same.

Imma throw them a lifeline... MAYBE they were trying to do live action comic panels?

I GOT the tone but its was very stiff forced stilted and unnatural.

But the girls look perfect. Donald would have been able to adlib that show to passable.

They needed a better cinematographer. Better effects. More creative angles and color palate.

I GET the idea I do...but this looked like a rough start and probably could have been fixed.

But I can't DEFEND it it.

Its just not the WORST.
