Diablo Cody's grown-up live-action take on The Powerpuff Girls and Ava DuVernay's adaptation of DC Comics' superhero Naomi are one step closer to becoming a reality.

On Tuesday, the CW announced it has ordered pilots for The Powerpuff Girls, Naomi, and an untitled dramedy produced by Jane the Virgin's Jennie Snyder Urman. Not only that, but the network also ordered a reboot of USA's The 4400 straight-to-series for the 2021-2022 season.
Here are the loglines for all four projects.

The 4400: "4400 overlooked, undervalued, or otherwise marginalized people who vanished without a trace over the last hundred years are all returned in an instant, having not aged a day and with no memory of what happened to them. As the government races to analyze the potential threat and contain the story, the 4400 themselves must grapple with the fact that they've been returned with a few…upgrades, and the increasing likelihood that they were all brought back now for a specific reason. Based on the original TV series." Written by Ariana Jackson (Riverdale), who executive produces with Anna Frickle and Laura Terry.

Naomi: Executive produced and written by DuVernay and Jill Blankenship (Arrow), Naomi follows "follows a teen girl's journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes." The series is based on critically acclaimed 2019 comic book series Naomi, written by Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker, an illustrated by Jamal Campbell. (Fun fact: Naomi will join the Justice League in March in a new comic series written by Bendis). Sarah Bremner, Paul Garnes also serve as EPs.

The Powerpuff Girls: "The Powerpuff Girls used to be America's pint-sized superheroes, now they're disillusioned twenty-somethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever? Based on the original Cartoon Network animated series and characters created by Craig McCracken." The potential series is written and executive produced by Cody and Heather Regnier. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and David Madden also serve as EPs.

Untitled Urman/Rothrock/Weir Project: "A dramedy about two millennial nuns – a devout true believer, and a new arrival who has yet to take her final vows – who start as strangers and become sisters on a funny, spiritual journey to understand their own faith and place in the Catholic church." Written by Claire Rothrock and Ryann Weir, who executive produced along with Urman and Joanna Klein.
As of right now, there's no word yet on the Berlanti produced series Wonder Girl, an adaptation of DC Comics new hero of the same name.
Last week, the network renewed 12 of its returning shows including The Flash, Riverdale, and Batwoman.

Naomi is a VERY good read as a comic and BMB created the character as a tribute to his adopted black daughter. AND she is supposed to be / become one of the most powerful characters in DC universe... eventually

The CW’s Powerpuff Girls pilot finds titular trio cast
Just a month after landing a pilot order at the network, The CW’s live-action sequel series to The Powerpuff Girls has found its titular stars as Chloe Bennet (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Dove Cameron (Descendants) and Yana Perrault (Jagged Little Pill), according to Variety.

The pilot, which acts as a reunion between Bennet and Cameron after starring as opponents in ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., will see the former star as the team’s de-facto leader Blossom while the latter will star as Bubbles, well-remembered as being the sweetest of the trio, and Perrault is set to portray Buttercup, the tough and hotheaded tomboy of the group. The CW recently tapped Maggie Kiley to helm the pilot, having previously worked with the filmmaker on episodes of Riverdale and its spin-off Katy Keene.
The new series, which is being developed by writers and executive producers Heather Regnier (iZombie) and Diablo Cody (Jennifer’s Body), will see the titular trio as disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having spent their entire childhood fighting crime and struggling to reunite as the world needs them more than ever.
Alongside Regnier and Cody, the project will be executive produced by Greg Berlanti (Arrowverse), Sarah Schechter and David Madden via Berlanti Productions with Warner Bros. Television set to produce the project. Regnier is attached to the studio via an overall deal, with previous credits for WBTV including Falling Skies, iZombie and the Veronica Mars revival at Hulu, as well as working on Showtime’s SMILF and Fox’s Sleepy Hollow.

The Powerpuff Girls was created by Craig McCracken and debuted in 1998, centering on Professor Utonium as, in an attempt to create the perfect little girl, ends up creating the titular trio Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup from the combination of sugar, spice, everything nice and the mysterious Chemical X. The series received rave reviews over the course of its six-season run and was broken up with a theatrical movie in 2002, which was a modest critical and commercial success.

Cartoon Network rebooted the series in 2016 without the involvement of McCracken or the original voice cast and received generally mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike and some controversy for the mishandling of transgender themes in an episode in the first season.

Cue the Kimya Dawson, because the Diablo Cody–penned Powerpuff Girls reboot is one step closer to becoming a reality. The CW poured some Chemical X over an Instagram feed and poof! Three young stars for their live action reboot of the Cartoon Network classic manifested. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news on Tuesday that Agents of SHIELD’s Chloe Bennet will play Blossom, the bookish and self-possessed leader. Dove Cameron of Hairspray Live! fame is scary-good casting as Bubbles, the cutesy one. And Yana Perrault, from Broadway’s Jagged Little Pill, will play rough and tumble Buttercup, the group’s tomboy. But none of this matters if they don’t cast a human in a chimpanzee costume as live action Mojo Jojo or a talented drag queen as Him.

Powerpuff Girls Live-Action CW Remake Gets a Dose of Donald Faison

Sugar, spice, and Donald Faison: These are the elements of a perfect television show, as first evidenced by Scrubs and now, by the upcoming Powerpuff Girls live-action remake. The CW series, which is rather moodily titled just Powerpuff, has found its lovable father figure in the form of Faison. He’ll play Professor Drake Utonium, the creator of the three Powerpuff girls who is, according to Deadline, facing a midlife crisis when the show begins. Written by Diablo Cody, Powerpuff will follow Blossom (Chloe Bennet), Bubbles (Dove Cameron), and Buttercup (Yana Perreault) as they navigate life as 20-somethings and former child superheroes. Faison took to social media after the casting news dropped on Tuesday, writing, “I tried so hard not to FLEX but I can’t help it. I’m so excited!” There’s still no word on who will play Mojo Jojo, but here’s hoping Zach Braff is in the running.

If any of you read the leaked pilot script, then you know this is a clisterfuck Trainwreck dumpster fire.

Please leave old properties alone.

Og is one of the most, if not the most underrated shows of all time. I hope it's a continuation from the original and not a reboot(we know that'll suck and have something to do with lgbtq and asian and rights or some bullshit)

The CW has ruined more fan favorite childhood properties than any tv network I can think of. Please stop selling them ips lol

That was my show! Ended on a big cliffhanger. Doubt they can continue it since everyone moved on

Yeah figured as much, more wishful thinking than anything. Such a slept on gem, the acting, story, concept and execution where all top notch.

Bro it was good from the first season all the way to the end. The Showrunners for this show had a gem on their hands and low fucking ratings and (cost of production) ruined it.
