but dialogue isn't story
at extreme-
sometimes a show or movie delivers a great story with mediocre dialogue poor screenplay or choose to do sparse dialogue
or a show / movie delivers great dialogue with a thread bear story or no real story (decent tv sitcoms or movie rom-coms)
imo the best movies and tv match brilliance on story and screenplay
- if succession is an all time great show- then excepcional projects that balance story and dialogue like justified, wire, kiss kiss bang bang or shield s1 etc are all time grossly under rated
depending on the story it is
a soliloquy can be that. It be narrator inner voice etc.

Game of Thrones had 4 seasons of being the best thing ever done on TV - but the writing and production values went to shit
Succession didn't fall off in quality of production or screenplay - only story
Succession s1 is brilliant and if each season after were siloed they would each be very good - but taken as a whole the story faltered

no - I think they had the opportunity and time to tell the story, but got lost along the way because they never had a compass

thing is when most people re-watch a show,
whose writers either followed the show's bible or the creator already has the ending outlined -or where he /they envisions the viewers last view of this world,
the viewer usually gains greater or new insight on the story and characters
easiest examples Justice League Unlimited, Wire, Cowboy Beebop

It is overrated if it's put in best tv of all time category
You know I hate ranking sh*t usually
But Succession is one of the best dramatic series on hbo and in cable history.
Just based on the performances.
I think that's fair and not an over reach.
It's not just okay or forgettable.
But if we ranking? I also think wire and deadwood are better than Sopranos
And I love that show.
And I could make a solid argument for OZ
Just saying.
how can it be one of the best when every show you just listed -except Sopranos - is superior in every way?
and we know hbo got at least 20 more truly killer shows not including the mini series
shit hbo has cancelled shows way better than succession -
shit just for 2023 on HBO Barry is better using only 20 min eps
if we start going through hbo's greatest hits - these comparisons will get worse fast
