It's not even that. These people had no souls to begin with. They were always willing to spout lies to have people's back. They've just never had to back someone so brazenly fake and ridiculously all over the place before.
That's what's really exposing all of these politicians. Trump's own inconsistency keeps them from sticking to one lie like they're used to. And that's why the fake is more apparent.
Because there is no accountability and thus no consequences.
There was a time elected officials were terrified of their bases. Specifically for not upholding their sworn promises. Why? Because they knew their base would grab them by the neck and watch the life leave their eyes.
Now they openly lie, cheat, and smile because they don’t fear their constituents. When they leave the Capitol building, when they walk out of their homes, when they venture to their place of employment they know no one is waiting for them.
You want these politicians to start doing their jobs? Start choking a few of them and see how quickly that boldness leaves their bodies, mind and soul.

Ta-Nehisi Coates said in an interview how these people can just make outrageous, untrue statements and continue to make them, even double down while the people trying to refute them had to supply the truth in order to counter them. It's a sad state of affairs.
