Trump pardons Nevada politician who paid for cosmetic surgery with funds to honor a slain officer
Michele Fiore, a former Las Vegas city councilwoman and state lawmaker who ran unsuccessfully in 2022 for state treasurer, was found guilty in October of six counts of federal wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. She was out of custody ahead of her sentencing, which had been scheduled for next month.
In a lengthy statement Thursday on Facebook, the loyal Trump supporter expressed gratitude to the president while also accusing the U.S. government and “select media outlets” of a broad, decade-long conspiracy to “target and dismantle” her life.
The White House confirmed Fiore had been pardoned but did not comment on the president’s decision.

John Jessup, 50, is facing up to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting his daughter Rachel (pictured together campaigning for him). Rachel said that when she woke up and moved, her father stopped. Court records said he then apologized to her, and when he was interviewed by cops months later in May 2024, he insisted he had done 'nothing criminal.'
'(Jessup) told detectives it was just a f*****-up drunk night', prosecutors said, per the Las Vegas Review Journal.
Rachel was adopted by her stepfather the day before the sentencing and now goes by the surname Keesling.
Rachel urged the court to impose the lengthiest possible prison sentence on her father. Prosecutors asked for a sentence of eight-to-20-years, but a judge handed him a sentence of six-to-15-years.
When Jessup was first arrested, it was only reported that he had assaulted a woman in the Vegas hotel room, but Rachel was not identified.

…Of the 1,576 people charged with criminal acts committed that day, CNS found that 46 came from Maryland, a historically Democratic state with a moderate Republican minority.
At least 15 Marylanders were convicted of or pleaded guilty to assaulting police officers, including Cook. Christopher Alberts, of Pylesville, carried a loaded 9mm pistol on Capitol grounds, assaulted officers and was sentenced to seven years in prison. Scott Miller, of Millersville, struck an officer with a long wooden pole multiple times and threw a speaker at police. He was sentenced to 5½ years in prison.
The full pardons and swift public acceptance of people who fought police and tried to obstruct the transfer of power to President-elect Joe Biden are deeply concerning to domestic extremism experts, who say widespread political violence in the United States is no longer unthinkable.
The pardons “contribute to the normalization” of violence, said Robert Pape, the founding director of the Chicago Project on Security & Threats at the University of Chicago, which recently released an exhaustive analysis of Jan. 6 participants. People “may not really be consciously thinking, ‘Oh, I’m supporting Jan. 6 violence against police.’ But … they essentially are.”…
