NEW YORK–President Donald Trump's ire over disrespecting the American flag doesn't extend to himself.

The president on Wednesday remained seated and talked while "Retreat" and "To the Colors" were played at an Air National Guard hangar in Middletown, Pa.

"What a nice sound that is," Trump told Fox News' Sean Hannity as he watches the crowd stand.

Trump appeared to have no knowledge of the significance of the songs, even joking with Hannity that they were being played in his honor.

"Are they playing that for you or for me?" Trump quipped. "They're playing that in honor of his ratings. He's beating everybody."

Twice a day, as the American flag is raised and lowered on U.S. military bases and other installations, a bugle plays "Retreat."

It is tradition for both service members and civilians to pay their respects to the flag during the ceremony.

Playing the song is used "to signal the end of the duty day and pay respect to the nation's flag," according to the Army website.

Trump, who as president is the highest ranking official in the U.S. military, has spent weeks harping about NFL players who kneel during the "Star-Spangled Banner," calling the form of silent protest disrespectful to the flag and anthem.

Players began the demonstrations to protest the killing of unarmed black men by police.

Anyone who has served in the armed forces or spent time at a military installation would be familiar with the somber ceremony that Trump joked and laughed over on Wednesday.

Uniformed service members located outside of a building are required to stop and salute the flag, while civilians are required to place their hand over their heart, according to the website Task & Purpose.

It is "one of the oldest traditions in the Army, which dates back to the Revolutionary War," according to the U.S. Army website.

During the Vietnam War, Trump received four draft deferments for being a college student.

He also got a fifth deferment for bone spurs in his heels.

He called the condition "temporary" in an interview last year.

I read it and it really shows how much of a piece of shit 45 really is. And as much as I hate him, I will hate the hypocritical military personnel current and former who will bitch about Kap and black people kneeling while totally ignoring this shit. I really hope that this is fake news.
This is not fake news. I've seen it on a number of different Outlets. While I was on the Navy base in Norfolk we used to stop for colors. We had to. many of us ran to get inside at the first cue for colors two to three minutes before, but if you are outside you had to stop and if you were in uniform you had to stop and salute. Trump is a piece of shit imposing on others rules that he doesn't live up to

The video of this needs to be played ALL WEEKEND to show how fake his outrage is - and he is the example of disrespect!

Control with the how dare them kniggas protest attitude

You hit it, right out the park with this reply!!

A large percentage of people in this country, really think we should be happy to be in this country and accept whatever this country deal to us!! Thats why I tell people to express your rights, whatever way you feel thats right for you!! And dont let the media, president or anyone tell you which way you should lean on this matter!!

No one says accept whatever r the country deals but you should.definitely be happy to be here.

I'm happy to be here for reasons that I provide and reasons my ancestors have provided. There are things we created here that are unique to us and no where else in the world -- and by we , I mean Black Americans.

Soul music
Soul food
Hip-hop
Jazz
Our spin on the english language
Our spin on the religions of the world
Our fashion
Our technology we either invented or took part in
Our social justice contributions
Our philosophers and poets, artists

And yes, being in America gives us access to things other people don't have - which is why more people immigrate here than any place on earth. If you aren't happy to be born in the place other people are trying to sneak into, I dunno what to tell ya.

And oh yeah, because of the ideas they claim to uphold in this place, we challenge it and make it a reality. Our philosophers have actuay contributed to those ideas.

ok -just for shits and giggles -
Today- what can I get in US that I can't get in UK Canada France Germany Trinidad Cayman Sweden South Africa Netherlands ...?
the list gets longer for cacs -Belgium Swiss Australia Norway Singapore etc?

fyi - more people immigrate here because
1. for last 200 years we have the most welcoming immigration policies in the world
2. its easier to start a business here than 80% of other countries

If you prefer those countries im not shitting on them - but out of the list of things I named- they all ORIGINATE here. I said Black american culture. How can I get any more if that in those places than here? That's MY culture. They have some of it because we export it.

Also when I said people are coming here from all over the world , why would you focus on those few countries? Only one african country mentioned and it's the WHITEST one?

yeah yeah yeah - that list is obviously not all inclusive
but none of that is the point -

you made a claim - being in America gives us access to things other people don't have - which is why more people immigrate here than any place on earth. back that statement up

Yes. I know the quote. So you don't think people immigrate here for access to something they don't have where they're coming from?
This is a really stupid Discussion already.
Youre asking about countries in current day that aren't subject to mass immigration here. Those would be individual reasons that you would have to ask the person about.

I think this issue is you stated it as if it were a fact at first, then followed it up by saying you think it's the case. If you started off with "I believe..." then our fellow poster wouldn't be having a back and forth with you. Just my two cents bruv.

No, it is a fact. Anyone who immigrate from anywhere in the world to another place, is doing so for a reason .

Now what would be the reason for a person from England to America? I don't know, your have to ask them.

What would be the reason for friends of mine who came from Ethiopia as children? Escaping war and famine. Why did the Uber drive I met the other day come here from Haiti just a few years ago? The earthquake. Why did people in Miami come from Cuba? Opposition to government. Why is my friend from former Yugoslavia here? Escaping war. And so on

Those reasons are a bit more clear but be avoided countries like that with mass immigration, to ask about individual reasons.

i used to hate getting caught-up during that sh!t, lol

Thats why I hate when I hear people complain about the Anthem and the military. I served 21 years in the AF. When the Anthem was on no one was in sight. Everyone was standing in the foyer or laughing in their car for the person who got caught in it. We couldn't even get 10 people out of a squadron of 300 to go stand for the Anthem at a ceremony.

The worse was in Korea when they played the Korean Anthem also. My first day cats were running by me telling me to hurry up I said for what they said the music so i ran too. I got caught my first week coming out the BX not paying attention walking with this girl and it was almost 10 minutes saluting. I never got caught again. Cats use to be in a full sprint getting to the dorms or the BX to avoid it.

How does he not know what Retreat is. He has to have heard it before and there should be an Executive Officer, Protocol or Public Affairs around him telling him what to do while its playing, since they are in an open hangar.

Attention spans too short to care or even just give a fuck helped to get us President Trump
