***Tripster's 2008 Investments (Ongoing thread)***

Good question. I bought apple at 165 and I might have caught a falling knife. Do you all think it is wise to buy more now at 133 in order to lower my cost basis and just sit on it and see what happens in a year?

People keep saying that the stock might hit $200+ within the next few months.

hey what happened to Tripster....hope he didn't jump off a ledge.

Anyway, I picked up a few things with this latest crash. I think think its a good time to go in and pick up a few stocks now that they're on clearance.

So Im in "DISK" 4125 shares @ 1.59usd average.

They had a merger agreement on the table from June 2007.

Had the deal gone through , they would have been bought out for 4.68/share.

The terminated the agreement today b/c the buyer couldnt/did not want to come up w/ the funds.

Stock opened @ 1.98usd.

After Hours, Bid is 1.15 and Ask is 1.20

Now what?

I think 1.10 is the bottom.

Damn, don't know what to tell you. I'll let the seasoned guys chime in on this one.

Got some SIRF 7.50 call. Hoping to catch a bounce. Stock tanked more than 52%. I believe its a little overdone. Only want a 50% ROI

Might be a good takeover target.............

GPS is the application this year.

Never that. I didn't do too bad yesterday, because I was shorting 100 shares of BIDU. Also shorted YHOO (that was too easy).

A down day in the market doesn't have to mean a down day for you, but you have to learn some patterns of the market. But I'm getting hammered right now on TGB, but its a long term play for anyway, so its all good.

You explain the process of shorting. I don't understand what the options mean. "Short to cover" etc.

Just read this now. A takeover may be in the works:

Shares of San Jose, Calif.-based SiRF Technology (SIRF - Cramer's Take - Stockpickr) continued Monday's evening's after-hours wipeout, losing more than half their value Tuesday to $7.36 on disappointing fourth-quarter results. This morning, the maker of semiconductor and software products was further hammered as Jeffries, Lehman Brothers, Soleil, Oppenheimer, FTN Midwest, Longbow and RBC Captial Markets downgraded the stock.

Navigational devices maker Garmin(GRMN - Cramer's Take - Stockpickr) fell $5.88, or 8.4%, to $63.78 as analysts feared SiRF's weak results could mean lower demand for GPS devices in the next few months.

1. if u wanted money from your stock account, how do u get it? do u pay taxes on it?

2. is it better to use something like e-trade or ameritrade as compared to the bank of america brokerage?

I use Bank of America and I get unlimited free trades. You can also get 30 free trades with them if you have an "advantage checking" account with them.

You can withdraw your money freely by transferring into your checking account whenever you want.

Taxes: You report your earning or losses at the end of the year. Turbo tax automatically downloads all your transactions from your B of A brokerage account and calculates it for you.

Go with B of A, in my opinion.

I went to B of A yesterday and was told this was only available with business accounts not personal ones.

Bullshit!! I just did mine about 2 months ago. Check this out:

Don't bother going into the bank. Open up an advantage checking account and call B of A brokerage department customer service, they were very nice to me and eager to get your business. Don't mess with those miserable clowns in the bank. They don't know too much:smh:

Caveat: the offer may be different for CA residents. It appears that you need a 25K deposit to qualify in CA.

Thanks man.

Im currently with Wellsfargo and they have 100 free trades a year with the same balance.Even though thats alot less than the 30 per month that B of A has, since im new I think it should be sufficient. If not,I'll bounce when I get close to the 100.

if you want to make some quick money on the daily basis i would pick up some of that luke entertainment stock early in the mourning and then get ride of it in the afternoons. The best performing day i saw it have so far was it opened at .44 and closed at 1.50. It is not a long term investment unless you want to hold out for them to sign a big name player, but on the short term it is good money.:yes::yes: LKEN check it out

.15 cents a share. :smh:

Ok, Apple is ruining me, should I get out. It's at 121, I got in at 160.

Seems you fell in love with the stock.

When a stock falls, determine how much (%age) you are willing to lose.

When it hit that threshold, get out...............

You could always get back in on the way up.

The economy is in deep shit right now so consumer electronics is not where people are going to spend money.

Do not fall in love with the stock. Fall in love with the %age increases of the stock (decreases for selling short).

Cryolife (cry) went up by 20% today because the FDA approved some stuff for them. I am thinking of scooping some up tomorrow, any thoughts?

Buy on speculation, sell on news.

What makes you think that the stock isn't over-bought already???

You need to catch the train before it leaves the station, not after.

Better luck next time, that is where research comes in to catch the wave before it jumps........

Keep at it bro..........

LOL!!!:lol::lol: Yeah, my dad used to do that shit to me all the time when I was growing up, except I had to use a book dictionary

Sorry fam, I was out of pocket the last few days on business, and I'm still out of town, but I'm back to make some millionaires.

I really appreciate the knowledge and input from some of the experienced brothers on this thread. Keep it coming!

Haven't done as much trading this week as I normally do, but I am very active with BIDU. I generally bought some more at $233 after shorting it from $259. Its back on its way up and I'll probabaly sell at $275 and continue the cycle by shorting again. This is what we call a "channel" in the stock world. You can make a killing off of a predictable channel, but as always be very careful.

BIDU earnings come out on 2/13. I happen to believe that they will meet expectations (which may not be good enough for the market) and their guidance will be lower (that will cause the stock to drop in price 10-15%).

If you really want the funds to get into the account quickly just wire it. Some banks allow you to wire funds for free. Washington Mutual does with certain kinds of accounts. Just verify that you have the right account when you go to the bank to do it. If not just get it.
