Trash Business (Give Some Help Brothas)

Good luck bro, I just did the same. Left 90K with government for my own distribution company. I would check with your state and look into certifications like bio-hazard and rubbish removal if any exsist. Also join associations and community groups. Bump.

OK. Check it. I finally got my first customer last week. Here are pics of the junk he wanted me to pick up.

I gave him a quote of $700. He was thinking that was too much. He said he had a guy who would do it for $400. I thought that was insane and too low.

so whats been the progress as far as your business is going

Yeah, would like to hear about the progress too.

I'm about to start my own trash biz also, but focusing on apartments, condos and senior citizen complexes. i think I have everything except for the bonding and licensing, so hopefully that isn't too much.

Will keep you guys posted on my progress as well.

Please keep us posted on your progress. I just had a conversation with friend this past week about doing foreclosure clean-outs. I would appreciate learning as you move forward.

Here is an update. I never got the contract. I had a great chance of getting it, but I priced myself out of it. Now looking back on it I was stupid. I shouldn't have stand so strong at my price. My partner who I was going to hire to work with me said he thought I priced my services too high. Just like the ignorant negro in me I got big-headed and fucked myself. I should have continued with this because I could have put a few brothas back to work, but I kind of got lazy with it because I was so hard on myself for messing up the first opportunity.

My advice for you guys trying to get in the business is there is a lot of potential to make a lot of loot. I'm talking millionaire status in 5 years time. My advice to you guys is work craigslist if you are just starting out. Another thing is if you want to make loot early is consider collecting restaurant trash. It's worse and nasty, but restaurants constantly need trash collections.

Small contractors is a niche you could focus on also because their jobs sometimes are small and they don't want to invest into buying a dumpster and clearing out their own trash.

Hmmmn. You bid $700 and he wants to pay $400??? How many hours would a clearout like that take?

GUESSING---
To my laymans eye (if that's just the stacks on the floor and there isn't any shit like bricks hidden in there) it looks like at least 4 hours work for two people. Assuming you have proper carting and a large truck for 1 trip.

If you pay both people $25 per hour for the clearout and 4 more hours for transport and dumping that's $400 just for the salaries.

Does not include: gas, equipment depreciation, markup, insurance and biz taxes, etc.

How could anyone legit do that job for $400?

Would heavy equipment make a difference? Is it undocumented workers that are making the lower bid possible here?

Drop some knowledge bro.

I felt the same way as you when you said how could someone do it for $400. I think $500 or $550 would have been more appropriate. I factored in $100 for 4 hours of work for the other worker and $100 for me. Plus my friend's dad was loaning us the truck and trailer so I would have slide him $50 plus gas. He wanted to collect the metal to salvage so it was a win/win. I'm estimating gas would have been about $50. So that's $300 total so far. Then you have have dumping fees. I'm guessing that wouldn't have been more than $100. So that leaves me with $100 to $150. I'm pretty sure there would have been some unexpected cost I would have to factor in. So $500 to $550 would have been appropriate for the job I'm guessing. I think if I had quoted him $500 to $550 he probably would have bite on it.

So all in all I started without anything - no truck, no trailer, nothing. Still I could have started a business.

OK. Brothas. My homie bought a truck. He reached out to me because he knew I tried to start a trash business. He and I sat down Sunday and discuss things in depth. He finally asked me to be a part of it. I told him I really don't have the time, but I would help him out. He said he wanted to off me 50% ownership. So I thought about it and decided to join on with him, but I will only hand the office operations for it. I will post on a regular basis in this thread. Hopefully it will inspire other cats to start-up in their cities.

Ok fellas. I've walked away from my job. Very high paying job nearly 6 figures. Some call me crazy for doing it in this economy, but I have confidence in myself and I know I will succeed in life. Plus I've stashed a few years savings. I stepped away because I have over 100 goals I want to acheive in this lifetime. Time is more important to me than money; therefore I needed to walk away from my job. I have a few ventures I'm going to pursue very soon to kick my new life off. My first venture I'm starting is in the lucrative world of TRASH.

I'm going to start a trash clearing and disposal company. Basically my company will be removing junk from residences or commercial business. I figure it's a low start-up company and with expansion I can employ some cats from my old hood and give them a 2nd start in life since they have served time. For instance, I will eventually turn the business over to my cousin who served 11 years in federal prison for a kingpin charge. He looking for a new start and with that charge sitting on his record it is virtually impossible for him to get a regular 9 to 5. So I'm pretty sure he is eager to have this opportunity with me and to prove himself to society.

I've checked out competition and there is little to none for the type of service I'm focusing on. I have the typical protection equipment you need for daily trash clean up like gloves, safety glasses, boots. I will most likely get a towing trailor soon. I've taken care of the simple things like EIN, business licence. I'm reviewing OSHA laws as far as disposal.

I made this thread because I know there are a lot of knowledgeable brothas on here with business experience and brothas with valuable insight. I would love some suggestions and knowledge from anyone on some ideas I may need to entertain as far as to this venture. I will also let you know my progress. So chime away brothas. All comments are welcomed.

I wish you luck in your new business. I can see that you will be successful in whatever you decide to do. Since you are following your dreams, you will achieve that financial freedom you are looking for. My uncle has a rubish removal company and made millions doing it for atleast 40 years. Just stay the course and don't listen to those dream snatchers out there. My only advice to you is never take business/financial advice from someone that is not in business for themselves. Oh yeah, I do own a telecommunications company.

Reading your post and you did not price or sell your services correctly. Left money on the table

You are right. Clearly it was ignorant and arrogant on my behalf to out-price myself like that. This time I'm being more strategic. My partner and I are having a business meeting this Sunday. I will late out some of the things, if not all of what we talk about on here. Hopefully some of you brothas can take what I post and start a junk business of your own in your city.

:lol::lol::lol:the many careers of Chase Bannon. bgol resident business man....:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

ok, let me stop.
first off, I commend OP for sharing his real life experience with the board.

one thing we should all take away from Chase's experience is that quitting your paying job/career to start your own business is a STUPID FUCKING IDEA.

you want to start your own business, make sure you have a job first are you are setting yourself up for failure.

businesses take time to make a profit and during this time, you are going to spending money. You need money coming in from somewhere.

quitting your job and starting a business that is successful right away only happens in fairy tales and Hollywood.Sure one or two people might be able to pull it off, but the great majority will fail, and find themselves in a worst position than when they started. That is the reason so many businesses fail in the first year. The owner runs out of money before the business becomes successful.

THE BEST AND ONLY TIME TO START YOUR OWN BUSINESS IS WHEN YOU HAVE A JOB ALREADY.AFTER YOU'VE BEEN SUCCESSFUL FOR A WHILE THEN YOU CAN QUIT YOUR ORIGINAL JOB. PERIOD.

I have a question. Do you own a business?

Hold on. The original post was made in 2009? The OP latests posts (from 2012) suggest the original business didn't get out of first gear in 2009 as after his first failure he got lazy and gave up and that he is now trying to restart the business.

Why hasn't anyone asked what has he been doing for the last 3 years?

Did you go back to a job? Start another venture?

Let us know playa.

I've been self employed for years now.
I've had a few businesses, offline and online.

With all the businesses you had I haven't seen you made one business thread. Pretty odd.

I haven't worked since 2009. I had a pretty high paying job and I stacked loot. Plus I've been investing since my mid 20's. So leaving the workforce during the financial collapse wasn't to difficult of a choice for me.
