No he really didn't. I remember that episode in season 3 "The Burden Hardest to Bear" where the matrix was taken from him and he reverted back to Hot Rod, he was happy as shit!

I didn't like Rodimus back then, hell he got Optimus killed as Hot Rod so that was already a strike against him. But as I got older and watched some of season 3 again I see he was always second guessing himself and comparing himself to Optimus instead of being his own leader and doing his own thing. He held himself back.

He was more than willing to let Prime keep the Matrix again after "The Return of Optimus Prime" though!

he was never going to be the leader Optimus was I literally cringed watching him every time , Grimlock became the best thing out of season 3

I've literally seen this movie over 100 times and still watch it every year to this day. Transformers (G1) are my passion so I get a little

What I thought would happen when Tarn finally ran across Megatron....he would get his ass killed!

I knew Tarn wasn't ready, and I knew Megatron was too smart to have an unchecked killing machine running around and not be able to stop him.

His identity was a surprise though. Like others, I was for sure it was Roller.

The thing I'm mad/disappointed about is that fuckboy Overlord got away...again!

I really thought he would die or at least be badly damaged when Tarn caught up with him. I was for sure he was going to get that ass whooped running across Megatron again, but this dude just keep getting lucky!

By time Ultra Magnus got that bullshit ass death I was already pissed at the movie! All the autobots that got murked on the shuttle, Prime dead, Spike and Bumblebee ate, Jazz and Cliffjumper (2 other faves) ate and most likely dead, and then Ultra Magnus killed! I was 8 years old in the theaters like "WTF is this"?!

I liked Ultra Magnus. Out of the new movie Transformers Ultra Magnus and Springer (was glad the Autobots finally got a triple changer) were my favorites. He really DIDN'T want the Matrix! When Prime said "Ultra Magnus I choose you as my successor" Ultra Magnus was like "FUCK! Are you sure? I'm just a soldier". But when the leader of the Autobots is on his deathbed and personally names you, I guess you can't say "Nah I'm good"

I remember in the Marvel G1 comics when Grimlock became leader after Optimus was killed. He was a terrible leader! Rodimus looked like a genius compared to "Commander Grimlock" He was wearing a crown, beating anyone that disagreed with him and everything

where things were before their time,
and Transformers: The Movie was definitely one of them...

Along with Techmo Super Bowl...

Transformers: Prime was very good. I would also say that Transformers: Animated was very good too. It had a very G1-esque vibe. I think the art and animation style kinda threw some people off. I think it was a very underrated Transformer series

He's finally making it to live action in Transformers 5. It's not known how big of a part he will have yet.
