ST LOUIS (AP) — Unless Missouri Governor Mike Parson grants clemency, Amber McLaughlin, 49, will become the first openly transgender woman executed in the US.

She is scheduled to die by injection Tuesday for killing a former girlfriend in 2003.

McLaughlin's attorney, Larry Komp, said there are no court appeals pending.

The clemency request focuses on several issues, including McLaughlin's traumatic childhood and mental health issues, which the jury never heard in her trial. A foster parent rubbed faeces in her face when she was a toddler and her adoptive father used a stun gun on her, according to the clemency petition. It says she suffers from depression and attempted suicide multiple times.

The petition also includes reports citing a diagnosis of gender dysphoria, a condition that causes anguish and other symptoms as a result of a disparity between a person's gender identity and their assigned sex at birth.

We think Amber has demonstrated incredible courage because I can tell you there's a lot of hate when it comes to that issue,” her attorney, Larry Komp, said Monday. But, he said, McLaughlin's sexual identity is “not the main focus” of the clemency request.

Parson's spokesperson, Kelli Jones, said the review process for the clemency request is still underway.

There is no known case of an openly transgender inmate being executed in the US before, according to the anti-execution Death Penalty Information Center. A friend in prison says she saw McLaughlin's personality blossom during her gender transition.

Before transitioning, McLaughlin was in a relationship with girlfriend Beverly Guenther. McLaughlin would show up at the suburban St Louis office where the 45-year-old Guenther worked, sometimes hiding inside the building, according to court records. Guenther obtained a restraining order, and police officers occasionally escorted her to her car after work.

Guenther's neighbours called police the night of November 20, 2003, when she failed to return home. Officers went to the office building, where they found a broken knife handle near her car and a trail of blood. A day later, McLaughlin led police to a location near the Mississippi River in St Louis, where the body had been dumped.

McLaughlin was convicted of first-degree murder in 2006. A judge sentenced McLaughlin to death after a jury deadlocked on the sentence. A court in 2016 ordered a new sentencing hearing, but a federal appeals court panel reinstated the death penalty in 2021.

This is some alarmist shit. A lawyer who has a client on death row will try to do anything or say anything to get his or her client out of the chair.

This is nothing more than a mental health play. Either it works or it doesn’t, but this isn’t a microcosm of a complete changing of society. The internets….lol

You ignored the intended soft tone of the article in your analysis. The killer was painted as nothing more than a troubled soul with a traumatic childhood. "A friend in prison says she saw McLaughlin's personality blossom during her gender transition."

You may have noticed the gory details of the crime were omitted as well and the Killers 'struggles' the focus. This is intentional, not an accident.

As I stated in the original post " You a damn fool if you don't see where this has and is continuing to head"

So this dude raped and murdered a woman because she didn't want him anymore but then in prison decided he wanted to be a woman, the quote above refers to the prison friend as “she“ so did they move him to a women's prison??

Thats a good question man, and to be honest I did not dig deep enough into the story. But if you are able to SWITCH prisons based on what you say you are, then this shit has gone too damn far. We are about to see if every US institution recognizes this bullshit.

The dude is on death row. About to be executed. The article was pretty straight forward, gave no opinion and only quoted the petition and the attorney.

The only reason this is news is because it is a first. Otherwise, it would be as standard as a dude finding Christianity, etc… the transgendered is not even the focus of the clemency request.

I don’t think this is really worth a full outrage. It’s not like they are trying to free him. Is a standard clemency plea with the uniqueness of the person being transgendered.

Normally, I agree. We all know the news is full of shit. Clickbait. Fear porn. Etc.

But I think this is a case of just piling on with the narrative. They keep with the gender/bender shit day in, day out. It's like death by a 1000 cuts. And let's not forget on SOME social media platforms calling this piece of shit a man is hate speech. They actually putting these weirdos in with women too.

If this were a Better Call Saul episode there would probably be some last-minute twist..

It took me a few years to watch.. but I LOVED better call Saul. Cant bring myself to even compare to Breaking Bad.. but I am thankful for the universe.

Pretty much my point though fam. Nothing special here except what has been fabricated by the MSM to be important.

The lawyer says the tranny's sexual identity is not the main focus but keeps using it as a way from him not getting executed.

This dude raped, stabbed and strangled his ex-girlfriend yet people keep saying he shouldn't be executed because he's a tranny.

If,you want to say executing a person is barbaric then fine. I have no problem with but to say we shouldn't be executed a person just because he's a tranny is ridiculous. Black men got executed with hardly no evidence yet they still got executed but a tranny with mountains of evidence against him it's a problem.
