The weekend’s other major wide new entry, “Top Five,” picked up $7.2 million across 979 locations, good enough for a fourth place finish. Chris Rock wrote, directed and stars in the film about a comedian at a professional and personal crossroads, earning some of the strongest notices of his career.

“We got the launch we wanted and the reaction we had hoped for,” said Rob Moore, vice-chairman of Paramount Pictures. “We do feel that word-of-mouth is going to continue to build as we keep expanding.”

Paramount Pictures picked up worldwide rights to the film from the Toronto Film Festival for $12.5 million and as part of the pact, the studio agreed to pay at least $20 million in promotion and marketing. It will be in roughly 2,000 screens by New Years and will begin its overseas launch next year.

Rock, who gave buzzy interviews with the likes of New York magazine and host “Saturday Night Live,” has been indefatigable in his support for the picture.

..and definitely chris rock's best film...that he directed....

Nice to see. Look at those cacs running to see some bible shit that has NO people of color in it.

I went to see Top Five. It was easily Chris Rocks best film. Check it out. Smart and funny like a black Seinfield episode.

Going to see this in the theaters even is a Screener drops - going to support Chris -

I always buy tickets online to show support, but never go... I prefer to watch movies at home these days. Big screen, surround sound, no talking, no phones, pause/rewind etc

Fuck theaters imo :smh:

thought I was the only one, I always buy two, and stay my ass home in my own man cave theater

I noticed though sometimes films with limited release do well and then gets expanded and it does nothing. I'm hoping that's not the case for this flick. I plan to go see it next weekend. Word of mouth has been great.

Disagree on this one the publicity has been flawless for it. If it came out wide release everyone was going to go see it

Ehhh I don't disagree. We'll see. It definitely wouldn't have put up that per theater average if it was in more theaters. I haven't seen any promotion for it aside from on Worldstar but I also understand that I could've simply missed it.

Damn near classic movie. We needed a movie like this for the 26 but younger than 33 years old club. when we get in our 40's and shit we don't have many movies that are black that will stand the test of time. this one will.

Never got around to seeing it until I downloaded it. Solid movie. Seemed like the hype was far better than the movie itself but it is one of those movies i'll watch more than once. I didn't know Kanye and Jay Z produced this film. Crazy.....a lot of star power showed up for Chris with this one.
