This will be the first of weekly postings of the Tony Brown's Journal show.

This week's show is entitled "Are you black or white?" and has scholars on discussing genetic testing that they do that can break down your lineage into possibly 4 groups including Western European, East Asian and West African. They discuss the reaction and response of students taking courses involved with this. The courses include giving all the students genetic testing and breaking up students into discussion groups to have a discourse on race relations. The professors from Penn State also give the racial genetic tests to the public and a signup sheet is offerred on their website.

good posts Que - last week's Journal was about a brother from the NAACP who often passed for white to document discrimination cases.

I have reservations about some of this genetic testing. Have you seen or heard of the movie "Gattaca"? Since black people are predisposed toward many health issues in this society I don't like the prospect of that along with the social moves in that movie.

I haven't seen Gattaca ... but I understand the implications once we get deep into genetics -- the real possibility of genetics-based discrimination looms large.

This is a topic that has always fascinated me -- especially since I live along the central gulf coast with its strange admixture of people and french (watch Greed puke) influence/heritage. I am not at all surprised at the number of white people walking around ready to call me the N word, who are as much one as I would ever be. But, then too, I also know how much disunity and battles between US that admixture has caused.
