TNT has been puttin out some good original shows over the last few years. Ever since they started that "We Know Drama" tag, they've been like the Showtime of basic cable.

TNT has given the greenlight to the thrilling, action-packed drama series LEVERAGE, starring Oscar® winner Timothy Hutton (Ordinary People, Nero Wolfe) and executive-produced by Dean Devlin (Independence Day, TNT’s The Librarian) and John Rogers (Cosby). The series follows a team of thieves, hackers and grifters who act as modern-day Robin Hoods, taking revenge against those who use power and wealth to victimize others. TNT has ordered 13 episodes of LEVERAGE, which comes to the network from Devlin’s Electric Entertainment. Devlin makes his directorial debut on the pilot, which was written by Rogers (Transformers) and Chris Downey (The King of Queens). LEVERAGE is slated to premiere on TNT later this year.

“LEVERAGE is great entertainment,” said Michael Wright, senior vice president in charge of the content creation group for TNT, TBS and TCM. “It’s fast-paced, smart and just great fun. Dean Devlin directed the pilot to perfection. Timothy Hutton is outstanding, and he and the cast around him have a great chemistry. This is a new genre for us in our series efforts, and it’s great to be able to tackle it with Dean. His Librarian movies for TNT have been huge successes. We couldn’t be happier having him and John Rogers bring that same sense of style and storytelling to us in series form.”

In LEVERAGE, Hutton plays former insurance investigator Nate Ford, a once-loyal corporate employee who had recovered millions of dollars in stolen goods for his employer. But when that employer denied his son’s insurance claims and allowed the boy to die, he realized he could no longer work for such an entity.

Out of work and descending into alcoholism, Ford is hired by an aeronautics executive to recover airplane designs the executive claims were stolen by a rival company. Helping him are four highly skilled team members: Parker (Beth Riesgraf – Alvin and the Chipmunks), an expert thief; Alec Hardison (Aldis Hodge – Friday Night Lights), a specialist in Internet and computer fraud; Eliot Spencer (Christian Kane – Into the West), a high-octane “retrieval specialist” who can take out a gang of henchmen without breaking a sweat; and Sophie Devereaux (Gina Bellman – Coupling), a grifter who could win awards for her acting skills during difficult scams. At first the newly formed team is hesitant to trust each other after so many years working alone but being double-crossed changes the dynamic, ultimately forcing them to unite. They emerge from the job realizing they are far better working together than apart. Once they discover they can trust each other the group targets their cons toward the richest, the greediest and the most unjust.

Damn good show. It reminds me a lot of Hustle but has enough differences to make it work. Now that Mickey is back on Hustle, have 2 shows to watch during the winter blues. The tech guy gets a lot of great one-liners.

while we're on the topic, if anyone has the first few episodes available, let a ninja know. TNT's site has the last 3, but I wanted to watch the pilot once more. ("The Nigerian Job")

edit: nevermind, I found 'em. See this page for links to all episodes>>> http://www.yidio.com/show/leverage

notice all the episodes are titled as "Job"s.

Looks like a Hustle ripoff, I like Hustle so I'll give it a try.

that's what a lot of critics are saying, but where Hustle's cons keep the money from their jobs, the Leverage crew are Robin Hood style thieves, giving the payoff to those who hired them, usually people who are in need of some kind of financial relief due to corrupt corporations. In the pilot episode, the entire crew had made some serious bank off The Nigerian Job-- enough for each of them to retire, so they don't need the money and are basically doing jobs now to help others.

kinda corny, but a nice premise for a tv show in this cynical day and age.

tonight: The Juror #6 Job

When Parker attends jury duty in order to keep up the legitimacy of one of her aliases, she notices some strange things at the trial. It seems someone is trying to buy a favorable verdict, but not if the Leverage team can steal it first.

My mom got me into the show. I like it. I especially like that the brother is the super geek (he even calls himself a geek), and not the stereotypical all action but no brains thug.

bump'd for the new season. now on Sunday nights at 9 PM EST!

The season 3 premiere of LEVERAGE "The Jailhouse Job" which airs tonight at 9pm on TNT is one that you don't want to miss. The whole team is back, including Sophie and their first job is pretty awesome as it takes place in jail, hence the name of the episode.

If you remember, Season 2 ended with Nate deciding to go to prison in order to spare his team from arrest. Once in jail though, he quickly realizes that the prison is corrupt and is abusing the rights of innocent people. In order to bring this to an end, Nate decides to stage a jailbreak. He also has to deal with Sophie being back on the team which brings up a whole host of unresolved feelings between them. On top of all of this, Nate has to contend with a new player in town called "The Italian", a mysterious woman who is going to put the squeeze on the team.

The con is quite fun and brilliantly executed. Yes, it is formulaic but I never manage to figure out their end game which makes the whole thing a lot of fun to watch. The client of this episode, an innocent person who was wrongly convicted, is played by Edwin Hodge, (brother of LEVERAGE star Aldus Hodge); he is as funny as his brother and has some pretty amusing scenes with Nate. The whole Sophie and Nate tension is back on as well and gets really fun as Sophie reveals her real name to everyone but Nate. As usual Parker, who is my favorite character in the show, is awesome with her quirky remarks; my favorite: "Who is Sophie?".

Ultimately, "The Jailhouse Job" is a great start to the third season. It has everything we love about the show, a great con, witty dialogue and Parker (ok maybe it's everything I love but you get the point). So don't miss tonight's season 3 premiere episode of Leverage "The Jailhouse Job" at 9pm on TNT.
