I have a phone interview next week for a job.

I had one 2 months ago w/a car ins. co. and the answers I gave did not match the "skills" they were seeking.

Been searching the Internet and found some broad terms.

Any help is appreciated.

What is the position your interviewing for?

I'm usually pretty good at phone interviews. The best thing to do is to make sure to set up a time for the interview where you won't be rushed and you will have time to talk for a while. Most phone interviews last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.

1. Set up a good time to interview where you won't have interruptions.

2. Make sure you are in a nice quiet place.

3. Be prepared to answer "situational" questions. Ex. "Tell me about a time when made a difficult decision on the job"

4. If you do a google search under phone interview questions, or sample interview questions you'll probably come up with a laundry list of places you can find help. Some want you to pay for them but most are free. Some will even break it down by the type of position you're trying to get.

5. Make you sure you speak clearly and most importantly answer the question that they ask. I can't tell you how many times I've interviewed cats and they ramble off some answer that didn't have anything to do with the question.

Good tips. I have a tip that might sound wierd but could help a bit. Ok, I know this sounds wierd but you might want to get dressed up for this phone interview. It can help you get into a professional mind set and can effect your tone of voice. It's easier to sound professional when you look professional.

I tried it a few times and it did help.

Good luck with the interview.

It WAS for a computer software position in NYC.

Did not get it.

And yes, I googled it and actually typed my answers (specific to negotiating, problem solving, communications skills/situational) and had a cup of water available.

Guess I did not qualify, because I did the interview by the book.

Gotta keep looking.
