Tina Turner Sells Entire Music Rights & Catalogue For $50 Million....

Explain the sell off for so cheap?
She not only sold her catalog...
She sold her name, likeness and everything
Shit, George Foreman got 137.5 Million for his name

I do not know to that extent the reason behind this reported operation
all I'm saying is she is not desperate for cash as she owns multiple real estates in Switzerland for over 30 years and that market in that country is not suffering at all
I've worked for a company in Geneva which shared the building with the firm running her real estate, that business was thriving

Can't believe the number of people in here talking about her kids.....Them mofokrs are AARP members and if they ain't made nothing out of their lives and opportunities waiting to cash in on her death, fuck them.

y'all mofokrs won't even wait for the estate to clear probate before you rummaging through the house looking for your come up.

So how much is her catalog worth? And how did you come to that conclusion?
I don't know. I would hope a LOT more than 50 million.
It's not only her catalog. She sold EVERYTHING.
Her name, Image, Likeness, Sponsorship and Merch. Like I said FOREMAN got 137.5 million from a GRILL company for just his name.
She got a whole career of music attached.

That don't mean sqaut. Trump owned plenty of shit and was walking around dead broke.

Fuck them kids

Yo...I w was thinking the same shit... :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

I thought she undersold her catalog, but her likeness and name?! She fought so hard to keep it only to sell it for so little?! Watch BMG come out with a line of Tina Turner products and music that launches her back to the forefront and they make that 50mil overnight!

What about her kids?
She's 81 and her oldest living kid is 60. Everybody talking about her kids like they 12yo. Who knows what the relationship is like...

How many top 10 hits has she had in the last 30 years that would make her catalog worth all these hundreds of millions?

I doubt it.

Tina Turner already lost the rights to most of her music when she divorced Ike Turner. All of her hits from the 80s and 90s were written by other people. This means that she would only own the sound recordings at the very most. Considering the way '80s record contracts worked she's lucky to even have that.

It's also worth noting that her husband, Erwin Bach, used to be a high level executive at EMI records. It's reasonable to assume that he used his expertise and influence to get her the best deal she possibly could.

As for the inheritance, Swiss law states that half of the money would automatically go to her spouse and the other half would go to her kids and grandchildren.

Anna Mae's cashing in like..

Dylan, Paul Simon, Neil Young, Stevie Nicks..

The big difference here is I don't think she wrote any of her songs (not sure)...which is why I found it strange that her NIL was included.

Maybe that added more value.

I guess all those ol timers are taking the money off the table, so they can do whatever they want in their twilight.

You've both made some good point about the song writing..... Tina sung a lot of hits but I'm guessing the writing credits and ownership belonged to other people.

Bob Dylan recently sold his entire music catalogue for $300 million but the main difference was that he wrote all of the songs... I suppose that's the main difference when it comes to valuing the work of an artiste.

Yes, and that's a HUGE difference.

Jimi Hendrix biggest hit was a cover of Bob Dylan's song "All along the watchtower". Every time his version gets played in a movie the Hendrix estate gets a royalty check for the sound recording and Bob Dylan gets a royalty check for the words and music. However, when somebody else covered the song on the Battlestar Galactica series Bob Dylan got a check but Hendrix didn't.

That's why the song is always going to be worth more than the recording.

She's in her 80's, had cancer and a stroke. She even said her documentary is the last we'll see of her in public again. Why should she try for a big payday when she most likely doesn't need the money and won't be around much longer to enjoy it?

Wow at your first 2 sentences

Other artist paydays from the sale of their catalogs or music..

Notice the common factor..the big money goes to people who write their music

Stevie Nicks – $100 million

Imagine Dragons – $100 million+

Neil Young – $150 million

Ryan Tedder – $200 million

Taylor Swift (Scooter Braun reaped the profit from this sale, not Swift) – $300 million

Bob Dylan – $400 million

Get that writer's credit!

Her much younger cac husband probably told her it was a good move knowing he'll get a large part of that 50 mil (and everything else he's convinced her to sell) when her old ass croaks, which could be any day now. :hmm:

This is 2021 music doesn't have the same value looks like she's preparing and getting her estate together.
Exactly. Her music ain't that hot by today's standards. Can't tell you the last time I heard a Tina track being played somewhere. I'm sure the streaming numbers ain't too high either. The business model has changed, so $50m seems pretty good. RKelly was selling his catalog for like $500k to pay for legal fees.

She has no star appeal with the younger generation. :dunno:

Have they been introduced to her? How often are older songs played on some TV show and gets huge download numbers that night? Beyonce plays Etta James and her music gets huge downloads and is played at weddings of people that never heard of her. And we aren't talking about Rappin-4-Tay her music has been timeless.

Them mofos ain't dumb. They KNOW they'll recoup their investment.

How much do you think a song like The Best is worth to a company, wanting to attach their product to it?

These execs know there's a natural 20..30 year retro cycle in music...look at all the 90s acts touring.. before the pandemic. It's always been like that.

That's why I won't be surprised to see songs by today's rappers being used the same way eventually.

I hope she is doing that to leave her children a little something..

Im surprised she didnt auction it off,

she couldve probably doubled or tripled her initial offering
The only son she ever had has already passed away. Only thing she have left is her step kids if she still claims them. And I think one of them had passed too.

Please explain.

My mind is telling me that Tina Turner has cancer.

I didn't want to say it but last time with Chadwick I warned y'all not to be mean but have respect.

This is making sense now. I see her face is chubby.

A chubby face out of no where or a sunken in face out of no where are tell tale signs.

Tina ain't the victim everyone thinks she is.

If you haven't seen it, yall really should watch the doc about her on HBO. Between the abuse, PTSD, the toll touring took on her body, cancer and a stroke, she's on the decline. What does an additional 50 million mean to someone who won't be around long to enjoy it?

When you don't write your shit this is what happens. People were shocked that TLC were broke and Toni Braxton was broke they didn't write anything. Whitney Houston died with what 20 mil her biggest hit was written by Dolly Parton. I'm sure Dolly is thankful to her every time a royalty check comes.
I'm surprised folk still don't understand not gaining wealth in the music industry unless you're an executive, writer and producer

The company did not disclose how much it paid, but industry sources said the figure would be north of $50m

:puzzled:

so why title it she sold it for 50 mill...?

Why does everyone always think selling your assets is a bad idea. Selling your assets at below market value is a bad idea.

Selling assets at above market is a good idea.

Whose to say that $50m for her rights is a bad idea. Does anyone still even listen to her music?

wasnt the beef between her and Ike that she was pregnant

with someone elses child...

I also heard she was a boss bitch, like all the chicks

in her neighborhood was scared of her..

and I have aunts that look and act wild just like

her, and they wont hesitate to stab a muthafucka

talkin out the side of their mouth...

and she go to church ERE WEEK!!!
LOL

Yo aunts and my aunties/cousins have definitely fought each other before. Got one auntie dat look kinda like Scarface(TM), she said she got her scars eating pussy, but I never believed her. But as a wise man once said. "Let them hoes fight!"
