Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party, today introduced the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act. The bill prevents app store availability or web hosting services in the U.S. for ByteDance-controlled applications, including TikTok, unless the application severs ties to entities like ByteDance that are subject to the control of a foreign adversary, as defined by Congress in Title 10.
In addition, the bill creates a process for the President to designate certain, specifically defined social media applications that are subject to the control of a foreign adversary—per Title 10—and pose a national security risk. Designated applications will face a prohibition on app store availability and web hosting services in the U.S. unless they sever ties to entities subject to the control of a foreign adversary through divestment.
“This is my message to TikTok: break up with the Chinese Communist Party or lose access to your American users,” said Chairman Gallagher. “America’s foremost adversary has no business controlling a dominant media platform in the United States. TikTok’s time in the United States is over unless it ends its relationship with CCP-controlled ByteDance.”
“So long as it is owned by ByteDance and thus required to collaborate with the CCP, TikTok poses critical threats to our national security. Our bipartisan legislation would protect American social media users by driving the divestment of foreign adversary-controlled apps to ensure that Americans are protected from the digital surveillance and influence operations of regimes that could weaponize their personal data against them. Whether it’s Russia or the CCP, this bill ensures the President has the tools he needs to press dangerous apps to divest and defend Americans’ security and privacy against our adversaries,” said Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi

Listen, do some things need to be tweak with TikTok in America yes but I like it the way it is. You find out a lot of international news very quickly and unfiltered through TikTok. I told you guys this story plenty of times, I got into TikTok at the beginning of Covid because I found out a lot of information before the American media took notice. If they spin it off from the parent company, they will need capital in the form of stock, the Chinese can buy shares of this company. They can also be absorbed by another Big Tech transnational company with strong ties to China.
Another issue is that stock ownership does not mean anything without revenue. You can effectively control a company through labor or access to your market. They are doing this now with a number of U.S. companies offering them cheap labor and access to their markets. Down the road, they will get a 'return' through higher labor rates. The Chinese have a much more holistic approach to corporate control/ownership than we do which is focused on owning shares and being the 'owner'.
The videos are made by Americans that are watch by Americans. What Chinese made videos enter this platform is the question.
Finally, Google sucks and is a giant fraud that leaks out your private data. The government has weaponized many of their platforms such as Youtube to attack high profile dissidents and set them up to be killed. Many of these Youtubers will get lucrative sponsorship deals funneled to them for participating. The chinese did the right thing banning this garbage off based on my experience.
Youtube has this corporatized/scripted feel to their videos that I can pick up. I described how many Youtuber tried to pose as us which I exposed smartphone cropped videos and using low resolution when many of these people are millionaires.
I underwent Youtube attacks to push this dangerous narrative about me, setting up assassination attempts. The commentary was made to look homegrown and organic when it was high controlled through various governmental entities. Back in the day this was done through corporate media but now it takes place on Youtube which is effectively the same thing; however, it is more dangerous/effective killing machine.

They killed a sexual deviant monster that was a Communist. This level of integration could not take place with Tik Tok due to their strong ties to China. When the government stops using these platforms for nefarious purposes, I would support measures like these, otherwise you are just picking your poison.

This is what will happen if Tiktok splits off, being bought by some company like Elon that may leverage it for business advantage in China or could be strong armed. Since Tiktok has taken off, Google has changed many of its practices to disallow Facebook and other social media to gain access to your information. Google is now setting up VPN, and has sandboxed apps to having limited functionality. If you claim TikTok can collect data, it is due to Google allowing it, they give permission.
All the tracking nonsense from Google, the app is sandboxed into Google, Google is what controls what apps have access to what. If you want National Security, you already have it with OS control. If whites were not so terrible and horrendous, I would support the ban.
Google has changed many of it practices since Tik Tok got on its platform. They are coming out with VPN, end to end encryption, tighting up permissions. I am not a big fan of China and some of the nonsense they have perpetrated, such as tricking off a few of us like Lebron, Oprah (Apple TV), or Jordan than hoarding jobs.
They should focus on fair trade practices that will change the mix of jobs in the U.S. I would force them at a minimum to allow third party recommender engines for their platform at least, especially Youtube. This could be fixed with an antitrust lawsuit to force them to allow third party recommender engines.
