Tiger Woods Declined Jordan’s Offer to Own Part of the Bobcats

Apparently, Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan are good friends. So much so, that Jordan offered Woods a minority stake in the Charlotte Bobcats. Well, Woods wasn’t interested. Mike can’t catch a break with this ownership thing.

Someone asked if he’d like to one day invest in a professional sports franchise, the way Phil Mickelson has with the San Diego Padres.

“Absolutely. I just need a lot more money,” Woods said. “My teams are the Lakers, the Dodgers and the Raiders, so I’ve got to play really well.”

His buddy, Michael Jordan, might make a piece of the Charlotte Bobcats available. If rumors are true, he already has and Woods declined.

As for Jay-Z

Jay-Z investment with the Nets is about to payoff big for the rapper in the months ahead. The Nets have already double in value and Mikhail (who owns 80 percent of the team)is negotiating deals overseas for the Nets

Jay-Z almost sold his percent of the Nets to Mikhail. He was upset that the Nets move to Brooklyn seem to be a dream. His investment was the punch line of the NBA. That was until Mikhail rescue the Nets and discuss his plans with Jay-Z.
Before Prokhorov bought the team in 09-10, his relationship with the Nets was bad. However, by March 2010, he was back in good graces, was headliner at ground breaking. In May 2010, Prokhorov goes to 40-40 club first day he is in New York.

Now Jay-Z will open the 1 billion dollar arena in September along side Mikhail who has promise he and Jay will be rapping together

I never blame Jay for what he did during the 09-10 season.

The Nets had the worst record. the team you purchase and promise to Brooklyn hasn't even broke ground on the arena and still has several lawsuits against them.

Now you hear some guy from Russia who brags about buying a yacht and forgetting where it's at is talking about buying the majority of your team.

He didn't know what was going to happen. Hell Jay was at more Knick games than the Nets at that time.

No one (not even me) predicted Proky would do all of this in 2 years. No one predicted he would payoff the people suing and holding out and rush the arena.

One more thing from the article I didn't know. Proky only owns 40 percent of the arena but that could change

Soaring value

It could increase next month. Mr. Prokhorov lent the partnership that runs the Barclays Center, which is led by Forest City Ratner, $77 million to cover arena infrastructure costs. According to NetsDaily, if the loan isn't repaid in September—$103 million, including interest—Mr. Prokhorov can exercise an option to take control of 80% of the arena. A spokesman for Forest City and its CEO, Bruce Ratner, said "the intention is to repay the loan by maturity."

Mr. Prokhorov said no decision on how to handle that has been made, but Mr. Ratner will keep the arena. "Bruce has invested tons of money and energy into this. We are certain he will continue to be a major shareholder and managing partner for the arena," Mr. Prokhorov said. "We truly enjoyed the partnership and are happy with our current role."

In the end he could own 80 percent of the arena and the team.

Fred Wilpon (born November 22, 1936[1] Bensonhurst, Brooklyn) is a real estate developer, baseball executive and the majority owner of the New York Mets.

Wilpon bought a one-percent stake in the Mets in 1980, when Charles Shipman Payson sold the team, with Doubleday & Co. holding the remaining interest. In 1986, Doubleday president Nelson Doubleday, Jr. sold off his company, and he and Wilpon each bought a 50 percent stake in the Mets to become full partners. In 2002, the Wilpon Family purchased the remaining 50% of the Mets from Doubleday for $135 million.

Wilpon served as president of the team between 1980 to 2002, as Chief Executive Officer since 1980 and as Chairman of the Board since 2003. Wilpon currently serves as Chairman of Sterling Equities. His son, Jeff, is the COO of the Mets and executive vice president of Sterling.

It would be interesting to watch if Jay accomplishes the same thing in 20-25 years.

Minus the ponzi schemes, of course.

i totally get it killa... patience, luck and sense makes success.

he had the sense to try and invest in the team
he had enough patience to let the luck go into his favor.

i'm working on my patience right now i'm ok but not good enough at it. stories like this inspire imo.

jay-z waited it out, its what he wanted and he got it.

tiger didn't want to rush into anything just because he could. he has a friend in the bobcats but that's not what he truly wanted so he's waiting it out till he can buy into a team he actually cares about.

As for MJ and Tiger. I think MJ is going to have to wait a while before he finds anyone willing to invest in the bobcats.

Now if they are moving to a different city. Maybe

it's said that jay owns 1.47% share of the nets,, that's hardly gonna affect the team if he sells,, they are basically just using his celebrity to draw more interest to the new team

true I will be honest. I didn't know what to make of this. I thought Jay was going to leave or sell his share.

The Nets would become the Seattle Supersonics.

I wonder would Tiger be interested in The Magic. I know he is a fan and Devos has hinted he could be interested in selling.

MJ ain't no real friend if he ask Tiger to buy into the Bobcats

then it would affect the nets if they're banking on him to bring in the crowd.

He might be interested in them I'm sure. Dodgers already have magic

Nobody is getting in on the raiders

So magic might be his best option to get into sports ownership

unless he does something that changes the golf game forever

which is develop a golf brand-team.

Exactly. Mikhail isn't Mark Cuban or Jerry Jones.

When you think of the cowboys and Mavericks franchises you think of their owner.

Mikhail doesn't live in the USA. He needed someone here.

While Jay was on tour he was pushing the brand

That being said Jigga and Brett both are responsible for the Nets following the Heat with merchandise sold.

Remember all the Nets had was Jay-Z. This was before Deron Williams. Dwight demanding trades to Brooklyn and so on.

“Absolutely. I just need a lot more money,” Woods said
After that ordeal his, money probably isn't that liquid as it once was.

On a side note,MJ needs to offer share's to actual players of the sport, the ones that can afford to invest money into a team, espacially blacks player.Have like a fraternity of players making business like decision's for the team...now it's just an idea Im not saying it will work but who knows the game of basketball better than an NBA player who's played on the lowest and highest level's of the sport.
Shit,Nelly owns a share so Im sure some dudes should be able to buy into it some sorta way, just keep players like Metta-World-peace out.

Would you invest into a team that the guy who drafted Adam Morrison and Kwame Brown is running?

Jay-Z and Mikhail will be doing other business ventures beside the Nets.

Proky is looking at other sport teams to purchase. A football franchise and a baseball
