Bradley Cooper On ‘Alias’: ‘I Wanted To F—king Kill Myself’

ALIAS - ‘There’s Only One Sydney Bristow’ - In the milestone 100th episode of the award-winning spy drama, Sydney’s maternity leave is cut short when she learns that Will (Bradley Cooper, ‘Failure to Launch,’ ‘Wedding Crashers’) has been abducted by her nemesis, Anna Espinosa (Gina Torres). Meanwhile, Sloane finds himself one step closer to obtaining the cure for daughter Nadia, on ‘Alias,’ WEDNESDAY, APRIL 26 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network. “Alias,” the ABC series that ran from 2001-2006 may have made Jennifer Garner’s career, but it almost killed Bradley Cooper’s.

These days Cooper is a bonafide Oscar-nominated movie star, but back in 2001, his first major role was playing Sydney Bristow’s (Jennifer Garner) best friend, Will Tippin, on the J.J. Abrams spy drama.

Cooper is the cover star of the latest issue of GQ, promoting his new film, “American Hustle.” In the interview he talks about his time on “Alias,” and how his once-major character became a less and less prominent player in the plot.

“I would only work three days a week. And then for the second season, I got even more sidelined. I was like, ‘Ugh.’ And then next thing you know, I was like, ‘I want to f—king kill myself,’” said Cooper. He then tells GQ how even though he had no projects lined up, and everyone advised against him from leaving the show, he asked to be written off. “J.J. [Abrams] was like, ‘Okay.’ He probably would’ve fired me, anyway.”

Cooper’s character played a major role in the first two seasons of “Alias,” but became a guest star in the third season when Will was put in the Witness Protection Program. He only appeared in a few episodes after that, including an episode in the final season to wrap up his character’s storyline.

I remember alias being must watch TV. There was twist and turns in the first couple of episodes. I'm glad it ended when it did. Because the story was getting repeatitive.

Jennifer Garner is wading into a sexy throwback.
The actress recreated a scene from her cult-favorite thriller series Alias, where her character Sydney Bristow slowly emerges from a pool. Garner posted the video to Instagram to celebrate reaching the 10 million follower mark — despite apparently promising her representatives she would "never" do so.
"To celebrate all 10 million of you, here is THE video I promised my manager (hi, @nksolaka) and my publicist (hi, @mereowass) I would never post," the 13 Going on 30 star wrote in the caption, posting the original clip alongside her recreation. "At some point in 2021, Ladies, I will try to look cute just for you."

The video garnered (sorry) plenty of comments from other celebrities. Leslie Jordan wrote, "This is amazing. Love it and you. Oh, and you’re always cute." Robin Roberts commented, "Just when I think I couldn’t possibly adore you any more than I already do! Bless you for always making all of us smile. You are a gem, Jen." And Garner's Alias costar Gina Torres wrote simply, "the Best!"

Alias originally aired on ABC from 2001 to 2006, following Garner's Sydney, a double agent for the CIA, as she attempts to carry out her missions while concealing her activities from her friends and family. Created by J.J. Abrams, the show received critical acclaim and netted several Emmy nominations, but struggled in the ratings throughout its run.
Recently, Garner's 13 Going on 30 costar Christa Allen also got in on the recreation game, posting her own take on a memorable scene from the rom-com that originally featured Garner.

Jennifer Garner stealthily joined TikTok to post a special reunion video celebrating the 20th anniversary of Alias.
Garner made her debut on the popular social media app with a video featuring a montage of the original Alias cast members juxtaposed with shots of them today, celebrating the 20th anniversary at what appears to be a giant reunion gathering.
Cast members Michael Vartan, Merrin Dungey, Kevin Weisman, Gina Torres, Mia Maestro and Victor Garber all made appearances. "We're here, we're older, but we still got it," Garner wrote, alongside the hashtags #FirstTikTok and #Alias20.
She also cross-posted the video to Instagram with a lengthier caption. "Twenty years ago this week, tonight in fact, #Alias aired for the first time on @abcnetwork," she began. "If you're an idea born of @jjabramsofficial's brain — you're a big one; JJ's ambitious imagination pushed every department on the crew of Alias through and past the norm, it was so much FUN."

COUNT ME IN
"Since the end of the show, April of 2005, running into a cast or crew member from Alias has always led to this question—When will you get everyone back together for a reunion?" she continued. "The 20th anniversary seemed like as good an excuse as any, so the call went out —reunion party is happening, pass it on!"

"We missed everyone who was working and couldn't make it in. We missed you, Jabrams, (because I screwed up and made this happen on a night you were busy). But man, it felt so good to be together again," she concluded. " The 20th anniversary also seemed like as good an excuse as any to join TikTok. No dot in the middle over there, but the same nonsense — jennifergarner on TikTok — I am more embarrassed for myself than you could possibly be for me, so just please — avert your gaze."
