This is why teachers should not have guns

Wait! This is actually still on the table as a reasonable solution? Even when common sense tells you that the most logical and long lasting solution is outside of the school environment and lies in the bureaucracy permeating in Washington?

I always felt it was a distraction.

Wonder If They "felt threatened" By One of Their Black Students  :hmm:

The amount of other problems that arming teachers introduces makes any serious consideration of it as viable/tactful solution a bad joke. Think about it, a teacher is a lot more likely to accidentally or intentionally wound/kill a student, fellow faculty/staff member or parent than they are to kill/wound an active shooter.

We aren't even going to get into the very real probability of thief of these weapons, missing weapons, lockdown scenarios to try and recover these things.

Moreover we haven't even consider things like cost, training, recertification, SOP procedures, and other myriad of consideration.

I can't believe the populace didn't reach into the White House and drag the crazy nut out into the streets.

Thank you Trump!

DALTON, Ga. (AP) — Police in Georgia say officers have responded to reports of shots fired at a high school and a teacher who may have been barricaded in a classroom is in custody.

Police in Dalton tweeted that no children were hurt or were in danger. Police spokesman Bruce Frazier tells The Associated Press that the scene is secure. Police are not immediately saying what happened inside the school.

Dalton police spokesman Bruce Frazier told The Associated Press that the scene at the school was secure. Police did not immediately say what happened inside and did not identify the teacher.

A police briefing was expected Wednesday afternoon.

Students were taken to the Northwest Georgia Center and parents advised to go there to pick them up.

The school has about 2,000 students, according to its website. It is located about 90 miles (145 kilometers) north of Atlanta.

Dalton is known as the Carpet Capital of the World, since much of the carpet for U.S. and world markets is produced within a 25-mile (40-kilometer) radius of the city. The origins of Dalton’s carpet industry are traced to the making of bedspreads in the community.

Florida House committee approves gun bill that raises age limit to buy rifles, allows armed teachers
Students will return to class Wednesday at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., where authorities say 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz opened fire with a semi-automatic rifle on Feb. 14, 2018, killing 17 people.

The 23-6 vote Tuesday followed more than four hours of emotional discussion, including from parents of some of the 17 killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Valentine's Day.

Unlike Monday, when hundreds of sometimes rowdy protesters jammed a Senate meeting to consider a similar bill, Tuesday's proceedings were more orderly. Several speakers spoke in favor of the assault weapons ban, including Parkland resident Amber Hersh.

"Our children lost a friend. Our friend lost a daughter. This is your opportunity. The world is watching," she told the committee.

An amendment to ban assault weapons was rejected on an 18-11 vote.

A Senate committee was going to take up a similar bill later in the day.

As the bill moves through the Legislature, the court case of Nikolas Cruz, the 19-year-old accused of killing 17 people at the high school in Parkland, is underway.

A judge has refused to step aside from the case as requested by his lawyers. Court records show Broward County Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer denied the request Monday.

Cruz's lawyers claimed Scherer has made rulings and comments that indicate favoritism for prosecutors. They said in court papers that Cruz can't get a fair trial, but Scherer disagreed.

Cruz is charged with 17 counts of murder in the Valentine's Day shooting.

A Tuesday morning hearing in the criminal case against Cruz was canceled after lawyers reached an agreement for prosecutors to get hair samples, fingerprints, DNA and photographs of him.

Meanwhile, students are scheduled to return to school Wednesday, for the first time since the Feb. 14 shooting.

Andrew Pollack, the father of 18-year-old victim Meadow Pollack, told legislators Tuesday that the entire country is watching.

"I can't tell you how much pain is running through my body. Every day I feel it. I don't want anyone to feel the pain that I feel," he said. "So right now in Florida, we have the chance to stop it. And we have the obligation, because every other state in this country is watching Florida right now, what we're going to do.

"A child should go to school and not worry that some animal is going to walk in with a gun."

Associated Press writers Freida Frisaro and Adriana Gomez Licon in Miami; Gary Fineout in Tallahassee, Florida; Tamara Lush in St. Petersburg, Florida; and Jeffrey Collins in Columbia, South Carolina; contributed to this report.

Now imagine this situation is a black teacher in classroom left holding a gun after a school shooting. Who wants to be that teacher?

Randal Davidson, known as the longtime radio voice of Dalton High School football and basketball, is in custody after he fired at least one shot inside a classroom, police said.

A North Georgia teacher, known as the longtime radio voice of Dalton High School football and basketball, is in custody after he fired at least one shot inside a classroom, police said.

The incident at Dalton High School, about 91 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta, sent panicked students running through hallways and alarmed parents already on edge in the wake of a mass shooting earlier this month at a Florida high school.

About 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, some students tried to get into Randal Davidson’s classroom and he would not let them in, Dalton police spokesman Bruce Frazier said.

They alerted the principal. When the principal came to the door and used his key to try to open it, Davidson forcibly closed it on him, Frazier said.

At that point, the principal heard a gunshot. Police have not said what type of gun was used, only that it was a handgun.

"We had officers inside the building quickly,” Frazier said.

Officers evacuated a hallway and secured the area first.

During the evacuation, a female student was hurt, police said. That student is being treated by emergency officials for an ankle injury.

After about 30 to 45 minutes, authorities were able to get Davidson to surrender.

"I don't believe we've had any dealings with him before,” Frazier said.

Davidson, a 53-year-old social studies teacher, has been at Dalton High since 2004. In 2012, he was recognized as the school’s top teacher, according to Dalton Public Schools, which wrote about Davidson’s non-traditional path to teaching in a profile that year.

He moved to Dalton in 1995 and became sports and news director at WBLJ-AM radio, the district said.

The Georgia State Patrol is assisting police with the investigation.

The first thing that Trump gonna say about this will be about mental issues.
just imagine what this crazy ass cac would have done if he had a room full of students.
Fuck it.....home school all kids. just do a video webinar of the class lesson......
its already proven that the police are too coward to save students.....teachers arent trained to handle gun safely in class.
Children are between a rock and a hard place. Gotta be wary of police, teachers, and criminals.

There are 217 public schools in Fulton County, Georgia alone (downtown Atlanta), and more than twice as many private/charter/alternative/other schools. Times 159 counties in the state of Georgia times 50 states and those numbers add up....

Gotdamn, that's just one state. A disaster and the President of the United States actually proposed that as a solution. Let that sink in! The man that's supposed to make crazy world implicating decision on our behalf almost daily and that was the best solution he could come up with.

White man in America. Your power and influence knows no bounds. That's incredible!

Who the hell are the 6 clowns that rejected the vote?

UPDATE: Fuck That! It also allows ARMED TEACHERS!

Even tho FL law allows armed the school districts can ban their teachers from carrying them in the schools and put school security with the resource officers.

I suspect tho the urban schools will allow the teachers to carry and thus a black child will be shot by a shaky ass cac teacher

Trump creates scapegoats for everyhing and by saying that teachers should have guns creates new scapegoats.

Scapegoats for school shootings - Arm reluctant teachers and blame them when they don't "protect" students, somethnig that is not in their charter.
