I feel you. Football and Basketball both have theirs and I dislike them also. You play to win the game. But damn how the pitcher going to get mad I cracked a homerun off of him and I want to admire how far it goes.
Yeah I'm not defending Garrett at all but my only point is if people think that's severe in what he did, it's no worse than throwing a baseball at someone's head, that should be met with a harsh punishment too.

I've seen my Phillies come back from a 10-0 deficit as well as coming back in the 8th inning of a 12-2 deficit at Dodger stadium when Tommy Lasorda took out all his starters. The game is never over till all 27 outs are recorded.
the real issue is the fact that the pitcher is behind 3 - 0. Had Tatis hit into a double play no one would have said anything.

What I'd really like to see is when a player gets hit or thrown at (especially in the head), that he and the other players run to the mound with bats in hand. I want to see that just once. If you're trying to hurt me with a ball, I'm going to try to fuck you up with a bat. The hitters barely get a chance to get a good punch on the pitcher before everyone piles on them. If both benches cleared with bats and balls in hand for a fight, MLB would stop this unwritten rule crap, and put severe penalties in place for throwing at someone. It would also be fun to watch that fight.
Seeing these fights make me wish Jerry Springer was still on. It's fun to yell out "FIGHT!" when shit's about to pop off.
