I wonder how many people are aware that:
2 standard slices of wheat bread contain about 270g of sodium.
1/2c of mixed veggies: 200mg of sodium.
lightly salted potato chips have literally HALF the sodium of regular, plain chips. Barbeque and other flavors are even higher in sodium.
14-15oz can of pink salmon has 340mg of sodium PER SERVING, 3 servings per can. So if you make salmon croquettes and eat the whole can, you have consumed more than 1000mg of sodium, BEFORE adding anything else to the mix, such as SALTINE crackers, and whatever else you might put in it, not to mention the hot sauce.
Lightly salted peanut butter has only about 65mg of sodium per 2 tbs serving. This is HALF that of regular peanut butter.
Cheeses, particularly the very popular ones are loaded with sodium. Cream cheese has about half the sodium of say, cheddar.
If you splurge for the organic bananas, you might not ever want a regular one again. It is like the banana flavor is turned up by a factor of 10.
Same thing with organic, cage free eggs. The flavor is much more pronounced, and enhances the flavor of things you may use eggs in as an ingredient.
The recommended daily allowance for sodium is no more than 2300mg per day, 1500mg if you have hypertension or are at risk.
Something to ponder.
