TULSA, Okla. — Nathaniel Chilcoat was found not guilty by a jury for the murder of Lakeia Gaines Friday afternoon.
Chilcoat was arrested and charged with first and second degree murder following a road rage incident in Feb. 2020 that lead to him shooting Gaines.

According to Tulsa police at the time, two cars became engaged in road rage incident near 51st and Memorial.
Gaines and her four-year-old daughter were passengers and another woman drove them to a Walgreens parking lot. Police said Chilcoat was driving another car and allegedly almost hit them. This lead to both cars parking next to each other and Gaines and Chilcoat getting out of their respective vehicles to argue.
Police stated that Gaines threw a water bottle at Chilcoat and he shot her.

He was arrested at a nearby Walgreens after the shooting.
Gaines’ daughter and the other woman driving the car were not hurt.
Tulsa County DA told FOX23 that they would not be releasing a statement following the not guilty verdict.

Ever since the Tulsa Race Riots, Tulsa has always maintained a weak stance on racial equity.
