giving a massage without a license

3 arrested in Mount Prospect prostitution investigation
September 25, 2009 4:01 PM

Mount Prospect police on Thursday arrested three women they accuse of prostitution and running an unlicensed massage parlor out of a spa business.

Meilan Cao, 38, of Chicago, was charged with one count of prostitution and a count of giving a massage without a license in violation of the Massage Licensing Act, according to a police statement. Jung Nam Ahn, 60, of Bolingbrook, was charged with keeping a place of prostitution and allowing a person to conduct a massage business without a license. And Tae Kyung Waterhouse, 50, of Haymarket, Va., was charged with an unspecified violation of the Massage Licensing Act.

All the charges are misdemeanors. Each woman bonded out of jail and are scheduled to appear in Rolling Meadows courthouse on Oct. 20, police said.

The women were arrested at Spa One at 1182 S. Elmhurst Rd. in Mount Prospect.

ASHBURN, Va. -- A 26-year-old cheerleader in Virginia claims she came down with a rare neurological disorder just days after receiving a flu shot.

Desiree Jennings, a Washington Redskins ambassador, says her problems began ten days after receiving the seasonal flu shot at a grocery store. She claims she fell ill with flu-like symptoms and then experienced convulsions and blackouts.

Inside Edition showed video of Jennings, an avid runner, struggling to walk forward and speak properly. When attempting to walk forward, Jennings appeared to jerk around and have difficulty moving. However, she could walk backwards and run without any problems. Also, while running, Jennings could speak clearly.

Sun Meng has been given the cold shoulder by his community after the extraordinary picture of him cowering naked outside the flat were posted on the internet.

The terrified 25-year-old fled from the balcony window when he was caught in bed with the man's wife at the married couple's flat in Chengdu, central China.

Photographs of the anrgy showdown, taken by a startled neighbour, were uploaded to a local community website.

They show Sun perched on the first floor ledge while his lover is confronted by her un-named husband inside.

"My family is ashamed and none of my own neighbours will talk to me any more," said Sun.

"I know what I did was wrong but I was afraid he would kill me.

"People are even laughing at how I look naked - but I have to point out it was a very cold day," he added.

Chengdu, capital of the Sichuan province in south-western China, has a population of about 11 million.

In 2003, the Chinese government relaxed its traditional hold over the private lives of its subjects by allowing them to marry without the permission of their bosses.

The government published three lengthy documents dealing with marriage laws and population control.

Burger King Whopper Bar to open on South Beach

Burger King announced plans Friday to open its
first South Florida Whopper Bar.

Move over, South Beach burger joints. The King is coming. And he's got booze.

Burger King announced plans Friday to open its first South Florida Whopper Bar -- a boutique version of the Miami-based fast food chain that hawks exotic recipes of its signature sandwich. The second of its kind in the country, and the first to serve up ice-cold beer, the 24-hour Whopper Bar South Beach has been in the works for several months and is set to open in February at Washington Avenue and 11th street.

Burger King touts the venue as a unique hometown location on high-profile real estate, and BK is adding SoBe flavor to the new locale: Delivery men on scooters will fetch your whopper to your condo (call 531-FIRE), and beer will be sold until 5 a.m.

``It's in our backyard,'' said Jonathan Muhtar, senior director of new concept development for Burger King. ``We love the idea of having a marquis, flagship location for us in Miami that we can share with the community we grew up in.''

Analysts say Burger King's new venture is part of a recession-friendly recipe. Customers are splurging on small luxuries like a gourmet burger but are less likely to fork over big bucks for a five-star meal, and the industry has noticed.

``People aren't spending as much money,'' said Richard Lackey, a Palm Beach Gardens-based restaurant broker and consultant. ``Where today they'll be at Morton's Steakhouse, tomorrow they'll be at a Friday's or a gourmet burger bar.''

Burger King's Whopper Bar lands in an increasingly saturated market.

In the past year, restaurants such as 8 oz. Burger Bar, Bliss Burger Bistro & Lounge and others have opened in the area, meaning Burger King's $7.99 deal of a Whopper, fries and domestic brew will compete with microbreweries and everything from $10, half-pound patties to the Burger & Beer Joint's $39 ``Stairway to Heaven,'' a 10-ounce Angus beef burger with foie gras, black truffle demi and a brioche bun, served with duck fat fries.

Burger King will unveil a new gourmet sandwich at the SoBe location, the BK Black & Bleu Steakhouse, with blue cheese, pepper bacon, blackened Cajun sauce and onions.

``There's a burger frenzy going on down there,'' said Sef ``The Burger Beast'' Gonzalez, a Miami blogger who once drove round trip to Orlando just to eat at the country's first Whopper Bar. Gonzalez said the trend, at least in South Florida, appears to be exclusive to South Beach.

As for Burger King's potential on Miami Beach: ``Is it a neat concept? Sure,'' he said, ``if you love Burger King.''

Some in the local market see Burger King's new venture not as a threat but as another sign that burgers are the business to be in right now on Miami Beach.

``It means that for the first time in my life I got it right,'' said Eric Fried of 8 oz. Burger Bar, which opened one year ago next month. ``Our timing was impeccable and obviously other people agree with me.''

Analysts say the gourmet burger trend is going on everywhere. ``The quick headline would be burgers are back big time,'' said Ron Paul, president of Technomic, a Chicago-based restaurant consulting firm.

Paul said unique burger restaurants have made a comeback, noting that Five Guys Burgers, which has sprouted a slew of local spots, including one in Miami Beach, is one of the country's fastest growing chains.

Lackey, the local analyst, said chefs around the world are finding new, profitable ways to reinvent fast food recipes as a way to adapt to the current market.

``We're seeing a revolution in what's happening in burger and pizza,'' he said.

``Why? Because they're fast food, fast casual, they're inexpensive, and they are comfort foods and are known to everybody.''

Democrat Rep. Hank Johnson worries loading too
many people onto Guam could capsize the island

Los Angeles Times
April 1, 2010

First, before you watch this short but remarkable video, a little background on Democratic Rep. Hank Johnson.

 • He's from Georgia's Fourth District.

 • A Washington, D.C. native, he's the fellow who took office in 2007 after knocking off former five-term Democratic Rep. Cynthia McKinney.

 • A former county judge, the 55-year-old is an attorney, a standard liberal Democrat, receiving 100 ratings from the ADA and ACLU.

In this House Armed Services Committee hearing last Friday (no, it wasn't April Fool's Day), Johnson was questioning Admiral Robert Willard, head of the U.S. Pacific fleet, about the stationing of 5,000 additional U.S. Marines and their families on the western Pacific island of Guam, a 212-square-mile American territory that is 30 miles long and from four to 12 miles wide.

President Obama will visit there this summer.

Of course, since Johnson is one of 535 members of the United States Congress, everything he says is important. But pay particular attention to the congressman's comments starting at the 1:16 mark and the pregnant pause after his stated concern and hand gestures.

Followed by the admiral's admirably measured military response.

Also, remember you are paying Congressman Johnson's salary this year -- $174,000.

third son.

Monday, May 03, 2010

A Peruvian mother of four was trapped in her bed for six months because of her giant breasts.

Julia Manihuari's chest grew to a gigantic N cup after the birth of her third son seven years ago — leaving her unable to move, The Sun reported.

"It was awful," she said. "If I tried to get up I would faint because my breasts were so heavy."

Manihuari, 29, who lives in northern rural Peru, was finally helped when local media paid for her to take a three-day boat trip to the nearest town for medical help.

Doctors believe she was suffering from a rare condition known as gigantomastia, which is characterized by excessive breast growth that may occur spontaneously during puberty or pregnancy, or while taking certain medications, according to the National Institues of Health.

While the exact cause of gigantomastia is not known, Dr. Cynara Coomer, a breast surgeon and Fox News contributor said in this particular case, it could be due to the hormones that are present during pregnancy.

“During pregnancy, there’s a surge of hormones — both estrogen and progesterone — that cause the breast tissue to increase,” Coomer said. “In normal women, they will notice an increase of one to three cup sizes during pregnancy. But in this case, this was an extreme overgrowth of her breast tissue, most likely in response to the hormones.”

Surgeons had to cut 35 pounds of flesh from Manihuari's breasts, fearing they could squash her lungs and kill her.

Manihuari emerged as a size 34B after the six-hour operation.

"Before the operation I couldn't do anything — I just had to live with it. It got so bad that my breasts were touching my legs," she said. "I have always had a small build, and the stress on the rest of my body was agony."

Texas Teenager Arrested for Stealing Dead Girl's Foot

DALLAS (April 30, 2010)—Daniel Wayne Stanley, 18, of Dallas, was in custody Friday facing a charge of theft from a human corpse/grave after he showed police officers a human foot he said he had dug up in a cemetery.

A Dallas police statement says Stanley walked up to officers early Friday near a Jewish cemetery in the city's Pleasant Grove section and told them he had a foot in his bag.

He then showed them the foot, saying he'd dug it up from a nearby cemetery because he wanted the foot of a "Jew girl,” police said.

Stanley also had a small hatchet in his bag, police said.

Stanley was taken to the Dallas County Jail.

The identity of the corpse from which the foot was taken wasn’t released.

East Oak Cliff pastor Sandy McGill denies

The Dallas pastor facing felony charges of burglarizing a church member's home on Christmas Eve said Monday she had no criminal intent.

Sandy McGriff, 52, said she was trying to protect valuables at the home of her longtime friend Serita Agnew and made a horrible mistake.

Police accuse McGriff of stealing more than $10,000 worth of fur coats, designer purses and electronics from a home in the 2200 block of Village Way near Kiest Boulevard and Lancaster Road. She was also charged with resisting arrest.

McGriff spent most of Christmas Day in jail and was released on $26,000 bail in time for Sunday morning services at The Church of the Living God. The sanctuary is in the back of her husband's furniture store on Lancaster Road in east Oak Cliff.

McGriff invited reporters to her Grand Prairie home Monday to tell her side of the story.

She said she had been in Agnew's east Oak Cliff neighborhood on Friday evening to pick up a peach cobbler from a friend. "Something just told me to go past her house," McGriff said.

McGriff said that when she did, she saw two men coming out from the side of Agnew's house. She said she pulled her black Jaguar into the driveway and walked around the home. That's when she saw the broken kitchen window.

"My mistake was I did not call 911," McGriff said. "I just used poor judgment."

She said she cleared away shards of glass, stood on a barrel and climbed in through the window. She said she was trying to protect Agnew's valuables in case the men came back.

"I thought I was helping," McGriff said.

She grabbed a laptop from the bedroom and three designer purses and put them in the Jaguar's back seat. Police arrived about 5:30 p.m. to see her carrying two fur coats out the back door, according to the arrest warrant affidavit.

Agnew's neighbor David Nanez had a different version of events. He said Monday that he had just come home from work when he saw a woman at Agnew's house. They waved at each other. Nanez said he kept watching as the woman hit the window with something. He said she tried to use an 8-foot wooden ladder to get in the window, but she slipped. So she got a 5-gallon bucket from the backyard to boost herself through the window, he said.

Nanez, whose house had been burglarized three weeks earlier, said the situation didn't look right. "I called police just in case something was wrong."

Nanez said police arrived with guns drawn as McGriff made a second trip from the house to her car. He said he never saw the two men that McGriff mentions, but he did see her giving police a hard time after she was arrested.

12-28-2010.NMC_27Pastor1.G762UKTOL.1.jpg

Pastor Sandy McGriff displays a leg injury she said police
caused. She is accused of resisting arrest and says police
used 'unnecessary force.' 'You just don't treat a woman
like that,' she said.

Conflicting stories

McGriff said she told police about the two men and that she had spoken with Agnew earlier that evening. The police report states she told officers her friend had sent her to pick up the coats. It makes no mention of the two men.

Officers used McGriff's cellphone to call Agnew, who told police she hadn't given anyone permission to enter her home.

McGriff was arrested, handcuffed and placed in the back of a squad car. She said that she was being compliant but that the handcuffs were hurting her. The officers wouldn't listen, she said.

"I just kept twisting and twisting until I got them off," she said of the cuffs.

She said several officers then dragged her out of the car, pulled her by the hair and held her down with a knee on her head. Officers recuffed her and put plastic ties on her ankles, she said.

"It was unnecessary force," McGriff said. "You just don't treat a woman like that."

The police report stated that when officers tried to recuff her, she refused their "loud verbal commands" to put her hands behind her back. She tried to push and pull away from officers with both arms and kicked and tried to scratch one officer, the report states.

McGriff said officers had to carry her from the patrol car into the jail, where she was treated in the hospital ward for high blood pressure. She was released on bail late Saturday.

McGriff said she had food, including Cornish hens and celery, for Christmas dinner in her trunk at the time of her arrest.

"I don't know of a burglar that's going to go shopping for groceries and then go commit a burglary," she said.

The arrest report states that McGriff was not sober at the time of her arrest. McGriff said she takes pain medication for a back injury but wasn't under the influence of anything at the time of her arrest.

She told her story from her living room couch, where she was surrounded by her nine fur coats. She said she has no reason to steal Agnew's coats or anything else.

"I don't stand in the need of anything," she said.

Different name

The police report lists McGriff as Kathy Robinson. McGriff said that's a fake name she used during her troubled youth. A Dallas police spokesman said in general that any previous names used when someone is arrested would stay with that person's record. A public records search lists 14 name variations and six birth dates for McGriff. She said her maiden name was on there along with her daughter's name and the fake name she thought she'd put behind her many years ago.

"Since 1988, I have walked the straight and narrow path," McGriff said.

She acknowledges having a criminal record, including a prostitution conviction in 1975. But she disputes the convictions from the 1980s for illegal use of credit cards that turn up in a search of public records under her name. She said she's fought with a credit bureau about being confused with a woman with a similar name and Social Security number.

"When it comes to credit cards, I don't play around," McGriff said.

She said she hopes to continue to expand her church, which she started in September. The congregation numbers about 30. She said she sees herself as a messenger for the word of God. At Sunday services, she told everyone what happened.

"My church was full for support," she said. "The people that come to support me brought tears to my eyes."

The woman whose home McGriff is accused of burglarizing said Monday she loved her as a pastor and a friend but hasn't returned McGriff's phone messages since the arrest. Agnew said she had recently stopped going to McGriff's church and doesn't plan to go back.

"I'm hurt. I'm devastated," she said. "My neighbor saw her break into my house. What is there to explain?"

Agnew said she's trying not to be angry but has no doubt her pastor was trying to steal from her.

"I hope she finds her way," Agnew said.
